That part of TOS was used again in the Star Trek movie with the whales. Remember when Checkov was unconscious with a subdural hematoma? McCoy asked the doctor what procedure he was going to do. The 20th-century doctor said something like a "fundoscopic examination". McCoy called him a barbarian and locked the medical team into the back room after which McCoy put a small "micro-fundoscopy" on Chekov's head and fixed him in a moment.

Although he prefered westerns, the westerns of the 60s era were begining to die off, he was originally suppose to be Mr. Spock, however, the ears and his acting demeanor didn't quite fit him, so Gene Roddenberry decided to give him the role of Dr. McCoy, the ships chief medical surgeon. These three men created one of the best friendships ever seen. Each required the other two in order to be his best self and was never quite at full strength when on his own. Ok, for real though. I just started watching Star Trek (I'm almost 21...but better late than never, I guess) with my mom, who is a huge Trekkie. She's super excited to finally have someone to talk to about it because I am OBSESSED. So we were talking about the episode we had just finished watching the day before, and she just happened to say, "I've always loved McCoy's eyes. They are so pretty!" And I actually gasped out loud, like in some TV show, and turned to her with big heart-filled eyes and said, "ME TOO!" Also, when he says "Moon Shuttle conductor" I laugh every time.

Me too! I've just started watching Star Trek (I'm neither American, nor a sci-fi fan so I was a bit "in the Stone Age" in this aspect :-) ). My sister recommended it to me because she thought I might like Mr. Spock. But after several episodes, I told her "I like that doctor so much!" And she said "Me too!" :-) There's just something human about him. DeForest Kelley was a level-headed, kind and friendly person from what I read about him; it just shows.
@danbasta36776 жыл бұрын
@@martaevabetakova483 This was the whole concept of the show, as Star Fleet gave a very young and impetuous officer a promotion, as a Captain, assigned him the starship the USS ENTERPRISE, a very logicial and unemotional science officer from the planet Vulcan who is also half human, and a Dr who guided this young Captain with humane sensible advice that the Captain can always turn to for concrete information to consider when under stress. If you watch the third season episode, The Tholian Web, you will note that when Spock and the good Doctor reviewed the Captain's last orders if he should be declaired dead, he advised Spock, seek out McCoy. Ask his advice, and if you find it sound, take it. Bones, you've just heard what i told Spock. Help him if you can, but remember, he is the Captain, capable of human insight and human error, they are most unavoidable, and follow his instructions with the same loyalty each of you have given to me. Take Care. Excellent tv show, a classic, and far BETTER than that next generation stuff, that's for sure.

I never noticed it before, but it was the way the 3 main characters reacted to each other that made the show. That's what seems to be lacking in too many other programs. Forgive me, Spock, but it the human connection between these 3 that made it so good. They respected each other's abilities. The plot lines that they were willing to die for each other was so believable. But they also made humorous jabs at each other with a quirky smile that was not seriously derogatory. I didn't see that quality in the spin offs. Yes, they had respect, but they don't seem to be having as much fun.
