The story of William Walker, the Siebe diver who placed the concrete bags under the cathedral, is fascinating. Let's just say he was one of the hardest men who ever lived. He worked six-hour days in total darkness in a deep sea diving suit, then cycled 70 miles home on Friday night.

Others have already pointed out the small pronunciation issue, so I will merely content myself with saying 1. that was a particularly good video this week, and 2. back in the days when I was working at the BBC I had the pleasure of working with the current Lord Montague who, among his other passions, helps run the south regional TV & Film archive, and is also the owner of that fabulous motor museum. He is truly a top bloke, and a really interesting person to talk to if you ever get the chance.

A little bit of trivia, many years ago (probably before the second disagreement) there was a major Hampshire brewery known as Strongs. To advertise their wares there were large metal signs on entering the county which said, ‘Hampshire born Hampshire bred Strong in the arm and Strong in the head’. Showing a pint glass full of beer. Obviously the second strong was soon substituted for another word, my late dad said it was thick (innocent times back then).

Very enjoyable and interesting as always. This is my home turf, but I learned something new about that army camp at St. Cross. The nearby Five Bridges Road which was the A3335 to Eastleigh, used to connect to the A33 at Hockley traffic lights, which were a notorious bottleneck. As it has now been severed from the main road, you might say it is now abandoned. I'm shocked to see the state of the Royal Pier at Southampton. That was still eminently restorable back in the early 2000s.

Now Winchester is famous for it's public school and posh boys. So when his rabble met said posh boys in the cathedral, my brother plucked one by the ear as a joke said "Bring me another boy, this one has burst"! Think you’ll have to do another episode on Lymington just to show us you can pronounce the name! As a local really enjoyed this one (apart from the Lyme-ington references) 👍👍

The last time you were at Winchester or went to Winchester. You said about the South Downs and how the M3 Motorway was built that could have had a tunnel running right beneath the South Downs. Instead of deep & cover with the chalk and rocks on each side of the motorway as you pass through it. That was interesting to know about when the M3 motorway was built to avoid Winchester and deep & cover was built that split the South Downs.
