I feel like I wasn’t super clear about it in the video but I do think this is a great handheld, IF you can get passed or don’t encounter the battery issues. I had issues with the RGB30 and I still really enjoy using it, and with the similarities, the Max 3 is great too. What are your thoughts about the RGB10 Max 3?

I'm looking forward to such type of devices for my children in the future. Keep it up with these videos. In a couple of years I'm going to make my purchases based on your reviews.

His reviews are good, and I mean no offense, but his videos are very short-form and he doesn't cover a lot about hardware, custom firmware alternatives or your other options when talking about the system in these reviews, so it may be a good idea to scan a few different videos before making a decision. Hardware in particular is very important to talk about with these devices because, being third-party manufactured (generally Chinese manufactured) devices at a budget price-point, there are some small annoying quirks of a few devices you have to be aware of. Things like light bleed, or even more problematic issues like low-quality d-pads and analog stick sensor software. Heck, even just button/stick placement. Russ from Retro Game Corps does some videos on the "best of [insert year here]" which could be really useful for picking out of a line-up of systems and while I don't watch him as much, Taki Udon does some really thorough analysis of the issues these systems can have and he takes it very seriously so you know you can trust him to try and be on top of things. It's a really big pool of handheld systems and there are a ton of great resources, so do yourself and your kids a favor and get as much info out there as you can because you really have no idea just how many systems are made available in this market on a weekly basis. Anbernic can't stop releasing budget handhelds. They put one out every three weeks.

While this portable gaming device is a bit quirky …. To see more of these more budget friendly devices coming out and better quality for less is great to see.

Thanks for taking the time to review this. For this price point, what would you say is the best handheld emulator with similar ergonomics?

Battery indicators aren't usually that accurate with this kind of stock software. Even custom firmware isn't super accurate and that stuff is better. It's best to just rely on your own common sense and remember how long you charged it and how long it's estimated to have left if you're on stock OS.

Looks cool but the aspect ratio seems like it's not a good fit for the types of games it can play. Thanks for the review as always Portly!

Seems centered around PSP with the wider display, but doesn't have that tiny bit of added power needed for reliable/consistent smooth PSP gameplay across the library. It's a little out of its niche, yeah... This form factor overall is good for a lot of systems from PSP, PS2, Gamecube, Wii, etc., where you might see some widescreen options, but for the budget range... nah, you're right. It's probably only good for people who don't really want to get another system and like this form factor above all else even at the cost of most games having a lot of blank, black space on screen while playing their games. Not sure if there are any good overlays for that much extra screen retail, but maybe.

Greatest offender of this device is that front-facing LED for the power display. Even Nintendo likes putting LEDs in your face like that and I've always hated it. Particularly when I'm playing in a dark room/at night. It's very distracting. I just don't like lights on my system unless they're coming out of the screen and only if they're related to the game.
