Credit for this video should go to Professor Don Boyes an online teacher on Coursera, the man behind that presentation.

So Mr Mercator didn’t solve how to travel on Great Circle lines? How do we describe the navigation today? Do Great Circle lines even have a definition, e.g. from point to point?

Things are complicated a bit more by the fact that aircraft have to fly through certain corridors and pass within range of weigh stations on the ground for safety reasons

Is the Great Circle called Orthodromic and the Rhumb Line Loxodromic? And doesnt a Great Circle by definition have to split the earth in two equal parts? In the trayectory from New York to London how can there be then a Great Circle?

Please tell the following. 1 please can u explain with an example mathematically how much difference in distance does it make(fr ex. Frm NYC to london) if one follow rhumb line or great circle 2. How will it look like practically( on a sheet or map) if we draw GC route for this travel (kindly use 3D if required) bcz definitely as it looks like an arc should be longer than a line.... Even any one question answered will be appreciated. Thankyou

Some thing is complicated a little bit, because you said in 04:29 that curved line it's not a straight line, but for me it is the straight line in reality, because it doesn't matter if my track was a straight line and i made some zigzag following the way points right and lift, but my track from London to New York departure bearing 288° remains straight in reality, and the curved line doesn't exist
