I'm a cellist and teacher of pre-college students. I am so impressed and grateful for your generosity in sharing your practice videos which my students love. I have enjoyed watching your career blossom since watching you at the Tchaikovsky competition. I thought you should have won! SO happy to see your career take off and your warm and generous spirit come through in these excellent tutorials. Bravo and thank you!

Pablo, I was taught this technique by my teacher Ian Bewley who was a pupil of Vilmos Palotai of Hungarian quartet. Palotai was number three in the cello section of the Berlin Phil when Feuermann was number one and Piatigorsky number 2. What an amazing cello section it must have been! Later on I learnt this again from a student of Janos Starker who also taught this technique. So happy you are sharing your wonderful knowledge with SO many people. Also thrilled there are cellists like you on the cello scene right now as it means the cello is in a excellent hands for the next generation to come. Perhaps a video on focus on your approach and thoughts on how you use your the whole body to produce a big dynamic sound. C21st cellists don't just use their arms in tone production. Big tone is not just a product of the arms but comes from the back etc. So any ideas on this would be worth sharing on a video. Bravo for your perceptive insights! Long may they continue to inspire cellists all round the world!

Que buen ejercicio!!! Como todos los movimientos innecesarios, el movimiento exajerado del codo entorpece mucho la ejecución además de hacer que te canses mas al tocar. Muchas gracias por tus consejos!!

Thank you for this video. Today is my first cello lessons. And I am adult beginner age 38. I wish that I never give up on cello.. seems today quite hard for me. My shoulder feels tense and tired . And my right finger are too stiff with a bow. Hrmmm.. I try keep practice to touch a bow with the right position everyday.

Solid tips! Would it be possible to balance the volume levels between speech and playing? The volume levels of your playing examples on the cello average at -5 dB, whereas the speech is much lower, at around -15 dB.
