This, just like the video, is very useful to many of those who are at the beginning of exploring the waters on their own - and not only! Thank you for taking the trouble to put everything together!

That was my biggest concern prior to this trip - would I have everything with me I needed! To a degree I did take a lot more than I needed and could have lightened my load quite a bit. Ah well 😅

What I do with check-lists (including my sailing trips) is to add and delete items for each time, with variables for numbers of days, season and location. You have a very comprehensive kit for your kayak, which will guide me for kayak trips with camping stopovers.

Thing I love about your channel is you itemise everything you use which is a great help. You could do a separate channel for kit reviews only!!!🤔 Solar back pack looks great for tech gear. What (w) was the panel? The little burner is great. We use one a lot for walking trips etc for a brew. My campin days are over but still love seeing all the gadgets people use!

Thank you for the videos Karl, and well done to you and the others. I’ve seen comments that inflatables are not recommended for GGCT so a great achievement. I’ve just bought a Gumotex Rush 1, smaller than your Chelan 140, as you know, and I’m looking at a kit list that I could fit into the boat, whilst still including everything I might need. I was interested in your comments on the use of a kayak sail. It had occurred to me that controlling the sail in windy conditions might not be straightforward. I’ve put that bit of kit on the back burner for now.

Ey up 😁 Gabriella aka Wind in My Hair (you'll find her in the comments on this video) did the GGCT in a Rush 1. You could always make contact with her for tips on how she packed hers 👍😁 Dave was supposed to be coming with us in his Rush 1 but he bottled it. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the recommendation about inflatables not being suitable for the GGCT was made prior to the inflatables developed over the last 3 to 5 years; because in that time they've changed! They're much more robust and capable than they used to be and quality ones are made from the same materials as rescue boats, just a bit thinner to keep the weight down. One boat I'd love to do this in would be the Aquaglide Cirrus 2 person - the lightest kayak on the market. That would be something! As for sails, I think if you've got a steady, constant wind, yes, they're fine. But in strong gusty winds, hopeless and possibly dangerous.
@Wind_in_my_hair
@Wind_in_my_hair 6 ай бұрын
Karl, agreed on the recommendation in the guide, a bit outdated one now 😀. Why Cirrus 2? I got the single seater, is not that much smaller than Rush. Leave some stuff behind next time and it would be good enough.
@MoreThanJustaCleaner
@MoreThanJustaCleaner 6 ай бұрын
@@Wind_in_my_hair the Cirrus one is a short boat and not particularly streamlined for straight straight tracking. I feel the 2 would be better for that 👍😁

Did you find that solar panel contributed much charge to your batteries? Watched this trip with interest, despite being a Yorkshireman living in Lincs now, I went to school in Fort William and am very familiar with the locks at Banavie as that’s where the girls’ dormitory was 😂

In all honesty I didn't pay that much attention. All I know is I didn't run out of power, although I would have eventually. I've used this bag before on other trips. It's been my day bag when I've been on van camping trips in Wales and Scotland with Oldest Friend it's helped keep power banks topped up. I bet that was a great place to grow up 😅

Very interesting, thank you. It seemed to me you travelled quite light, certainly compared to me during my 5 day trip to Loch Awe (with "Divum".....3 videos).! What about waste disposal in any wild areas? Admittedly we did try to take and use fresh frozen food meals and milk for 4 days...........

Travelled light! Sheesh, I dread to think what you took 😅 When necessary we took our waste with us and binned it when we came across bins. There were plenty and the canal facilities 👍😁

@@MoreThanJustaCleaner HaHa! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHPHf3aMpLSAj5Y will give a bit of an idea, (1 of 3) because we were in canoes we used barrels, and I had 2x 60 litre ones and a few bits in the boat but separate, day bag and so forth. Also food was bulky as we took mostly fresh frozen food, fire pits, frozen milk, as well as personal stoves of various shapes and sizes! As you say you have to prepare for the "what if" which means taking stuff you might not use. Interesting too, what you say about downwind sails......something I had been thinking about.👍
