For 10 years young Africans
have been going to the desert
to plant trees during their holidays.
Within several days
they turn many acres of land,
which is changing into desert,
into a future forest.
Small plants give future generations
hope for a better life.
The film talks about the project
of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States
supported by the African Union,
the aim of which is
to stop desertification.

The efforts of the MYG (youth) are wonderful. The efforts of the communities to support the visitors are also wonderful. May the GGW flourish and expand ❤

The good in the world SO vastly outweighs the bad. And this is yet another pleasant reminder of that.

Wonderful to see this cooperation between nations and peoples, and the support being offered by people from around the world. Did I miss a part about where the water is coming from to support these plantings, or how long it takes to get the trees established? Here in America, our government is mostly focused on sacrificing nature to make money. Is there a way for people from the rest of the world to support the Great Green Wall of Africa, if we can't all go there to plant like the young people in this video?

Maybe plant some native tree's in your area? I think this would be something amazing for us all to do in our homes. If the government won't change, we can do it ourselves locally? Happy planting from the UK ^_^

This kind of wall is nourishing and in long run will fight famine. As opposed to creating walls of restriction and deficiencies. True to AU anthem. If it’s beneficial then it probably can fight need for wars.

I am author of the books: The Great Wall of Africa: The Empire of Benin’s 10,000 Mile Long Wall, The Real Wakandas of Africa and The Real Vibranium of Africa (by Maurice Miles Martinez). While the modern 4,800 mile planned Great Green Wall is a great idea for the African continent, most people are unaware that African people built a wall before transatlantic slavery that is more than twice as long as the modern Green wall. At 10,000 miles long, the Great Wall of Africa contains more material than all of the buildings in New York City’s Manhattan. If cut into 1 meter high blocks, it would wrap around the equator more than 65 times! It is arguably the planet’s greatest man-made structure. Yet, it has been ignored by historians. In my book The Great Wall of Africa: The Empire of Benin’s 10,000 Mile Long Wall, I explore the dimensions of the wall, the history of the Benin Empire’s Kings (Obas) and the stolen Benin Bronzes. These treasures that sit in the world’s museums amount to more than $14 Billion. Most people who read this book are left wondering why they never heard about the Great Wall of Africa in their history classes. Maurice Miles Martinez

Watch out for industrial growth! Stay loyal to your traditions and agriculture. Industrial countries have much bigger negative impact on the environment than agricultural countries. Tourism is better option than industry.

Actually with the right regenerative animal-husbandry, the forest and grass will grow faster. It was used before the people got more sedentary, just as the wild grazing animals move from one place to another with seasons, fertilizing everything for the next season of growth. To understand this i recommend anyone to visit Geoff Lawtons youtube.
