Many thanks, Russell. I’ve been using hybrid teaching for two years now but did not realize it had a name - for me it was simply finding a way to engage students, (English classes) staying at home, so that they wouldn’t miss out on the chance to practise.

Hi eneha - I woud be really interested to hear how you´ve been dealing with this situation over the last few years! Are you in a situation similar to that Mr.Stannard describes where students in the class also have devices?
@user-borzenko_elena4 жыл бұрын
@@michelleagnesfagan4533 Well, not really. I usually teach a class of 10-20 students (or teachers), the classroom is equipped only with a projector and a desktop PC. Students that are not in class (sick, busy, could't arrive on time due to bad weather) get a link to Hangouts video chat (I use Trello where Hangouts is embedded). To create such chats I use my personal laptop with a good camera and microphone. I place my laptop so that people on Hangouts can see me and the board with a projected material. I walk freely around the class and still can be heard by those online. If there's any speaking activity, I give my laptop with headphones to a student in the classroom - and they both can hear and see each other. This hybrid model proved to be great with those students on a maternity leave: they managed to follow a full-time course being at home with their babies on the lap!

@@user-borzenko_elena thanks so much for this insight into how it´s working for you! Really appreciate it It is especially encouraging that the students found it useful. I´ ve had first two classes and they went ok - got loads of ideas to play around with and feeling quite excited by possibilities.

I had to do this, hardware limits was main issue( lack of earphones/ mics etc...mask steaming up glasses didn't help, that type of thing😂, and had to abandon video and settle for audio. Ultimately taking it in turns in some logical order was the best solution for a conversation class. Learned that muting mics is the only way to go and

Hi Russel, Thanks as always - mentimeter looks cool BUT think about the students in the class NOT having phones, tablets or any other devices - this is the reality for a lot of teachers. It´s a real brain tease at the moment! The "live" students can see the zoom call students projected on the whiteboard - that´s it!
@ttvRussell4 жыл бұрын
Students can work in groups. You only need one student in each group to have access to a device. I take your point but I am just reporting on what we have been trying out.
