Oregano is great for this also. Chokes out everything else.

Really enjoyed this video! Sweet potatoes have been an excellent living mulch in our garden this year 😍 Excited to add more!

This was a great reminder video as I'm preparing some new spaces. First thing I planted was buckwheat. 😊

Hello Ms. Plant Lady! I was SO SO glad to find you. For years now I have not been growing grass since my hardwood trees (just a couple) prevent grass from growing...re-seeding was useless. Since I live on a small property (just love it, perfect size) I want the green evergreen look surrounding my home. I do have periwinkle but oh gosh it is a bit of a bully in the garden...takes over everywhere. Also planted mint...eeks. Well, had to get on my knees (tough at 60 years old) and do some pulling but it is worth it. Here is one recommendation I found by accident: Euphorbia Robbaie (spelling?). I planted some (eastern exposure, some in SW exposure) and they just go gang-busters in the yard and look super! They are dark green...carefree...seed themselves. Love them.

Loved the tour. Very nice garden space! I would try daylilies in the trouble spot. It would give a blast of color too! Happy gardening!!

Thank you for this! I am a big fan of using groundcovers. I am always looking for something a little different and I love all the carex, ajuga and I even use lamb’s ear for its soft grey foliage . I really love that Evita glovinia! I will have to see if I can find it.

Thank you for this video! I have been seeking information on living mulch in flowerbeds and there’s just not a lot of information out there!

Super helpful video! What are the common names of all the groundcovers?
@glencoukell163 Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the interesting and helpful presentation. At the first location many of the plant names were spoken but I could not write them down. I am after low-growing plants if possible and even those that could be walked on would be great. Is it possible you could give their names. Thanks again.

Ornamental Lamium is probably my favorite. I also have moss, blue-eyed grass, and ground cover Phlox - which I don’t recommend because the bunnies love it.

Curious as to why more people don’t use ornamental sweet potatoes for ground cover more often. I haven’t had to mulch in 3 years and it all started with one plant. I have probably propagated 50 more plants off of the one origional.

The “Ever” carex series is wonderful! I have Everglow, Everillo, Everest, and another and they’re all great. I used the Everillo to tie various disparate gardens together and it has worked so well. I’m also going to start leaving the violets when they feel like invading. They are a host plant I’ve heard, for, I think a skipper? Plus it’s a flower I didn’t have to work hard to grow or pay for. It’s basically a free ground cover that is also beneficial to the ecosystem and food web. Why not? I can always change that plan or edit when necessary.

Oh yes!!! Violets are wonderful!

Very helpful video. I battled english ivy for years until deer decimated it creating an erosion problem. Carex and ajuga have been thriving in moist shady area and starting to fill in. Arum popped up in my garden about 10 years ago. I read that it was invasive so tried to remove it but it has grown slowly in small clumps and looks attractive in winter. It seems to self seed in difficult areas and deer and bunnies leave it alone.
@BrieThePlantLady2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I don’t consider Arum to be invasive It just fills in gaps and the animals leave it alone!

I have a wet, deep shade area , under trees, where nothing will grow. I've been putting in a moss garden using different types of moss and so far looks good and doing well.

I tried the asiatic jasmine. The rabbits thought I planted it just for them. They ate all of it to the ground. It still tries to make a comeback sometimes but they must smell that and come running.
