I worked at one of the boat yards driven out of business by that plan. I had a good job as a Marine Electrician, paid quite well. We were all pink slipped the same day. 34 skilled workers suddenly out of work, every boat yard either laying off or closing entirely. Thousands of good jobs gone. Instead of paying taxes we all ended up on unemployment and food stamps. I lost my home. If you could find work in your field it was at cut rate pay because their were plenty of hungry, talented people and not enough work to go around. Not only did the boat industry suffer but so did everyone who supported us. A lot of small companies that provided everything from lumber to fiberglass to the finishing touches on a yacht. Drove all that business overseas.

Yep. Keep thinking like that and we'll all be in subsistence-maintaining indentured servitude. We should stop producing wasteful products catered to the wealthy alltogether. Just straight up refuse to make & staff the yachts, McMansions, exotic resorts, expensive goods and such. This series so far seems to be a repeating lesson that when the government charges more taxes they get less tax revenue due to damage to whatever industry they heaped taxes on and people finding tax loopholes. The best way for the government to make more in tax revenue is to keep the taxes simple and fair like a flat income tax for everyone and flat sales tax in all products while lifting as many superfluous taxes as possible.
@sharpfang Жыл бұрын
It's economy 101, tax amount - tax revenue curve is arc-shaped. Raising taxes past certain threshold actively decreases the tax revenue.
@r5t6y7u89 ай бұрын
The tax code has nothing to do with revenue and everything with control. The power to tax is the power to destroy. The real job of the IRS is punishing the "wrong" people. Think how many people spoke their minds and suddenly wound up in trouble with the IRS.
@dinoblacklane16409 ай бұрын
Kinda reminds me of how people don't know how income tax brackets work. It's shocking how many people I've seen refuse extra work because they think going into that next tax bracket would cause ALL of their income to be taxed at that rate. Which because of how complicated taxes are, causes those people to get less money, which causes the government to get less tax money from income tax. And less tax money from sales tax. Makes me wonder how many millions(billions?) In missed taxes are there because of a complicated tax law

He was best known for his campaign to impeach Clinton for having an affair, while he had an affair with a young girl himself. Another real life outcome in NY state of COVID testing requirements: My aged mother had to suffer from a life-threatening septic episode because test results from a simple UTI test were tied up in the weeks-long fax machine back log at her doctor's office. The backlog was due to mandatory testing for everyone (including healthy people) who wanted to keep their job having to submit to constant COVID swabbing. Their results were forwarded to under-equipped general practitioners who were then rendered helpless in conducting routine or urgent tests for anything else at all. The result was undoubtedly many preventable deaths from what would have otherwise been treatable infections.
