If no songs show up in ncmpcpp try pressing `u` to update the db. If that doesn't work, try starting mpd and if it is unable to bind to socket because it's already in use try killing the mpd process. If _that_ doesn't work make sure mpd isn't running as a service (sudo systemctl status mpd). To fix that I had to eventually uninstall and then re-install mpd, then I could run it as my user and it listened to the config, set the right music dir, etc.

@nan0viol3t

Good one, as I also did have problems with then name "ncmpcpp" - you know it can connect to multiple mpd instances without ssh - it is one "why" mpd is client/server arch. Got also same "problem with folder view" and no mpd client can solve this if I'm not mistaken here, as this comes with mpd design - it will scan music folders and build it own collection - this was the main reason for me to move from mpd/ncmpcpp, to the best in my opinion - mocp (speed/folder view/lyrics and of course console driven ). Thanks for sharing - I like i3 stuff - on i3 as well. (It seems we faced same distro/envi ideas - currently on Arch, but I was also happy with Funtoo and bunsenlabs - but I'm still "on the move" - for years now ;) ) cheers.

Copied your config and it fixed a few things that had me scratching my head. Thanks. Still, it does not completely look like yours. Still futzing around with it. As an aside, I have my music folder structure like this (Storage/Music/FLAC). Needless to say, I keep low quality music inside the "Music" folder and lossless in the FLAC folder. Ncmpcpp picks up all music recursively from both folders. Is there a way for it to see the music in only one (FLAC) without reading what's in the "Music" folder?

back on arch? what about void? parabola?
@LukeSmithxyz
@LukeSmithxyz 7 жыл бұрын
Right now my computer is sort of looking at both Parabola and Arch repos simultaneously so I'm actually a little in between. I have the Linux-libre kernel, so it's probably more Parabola than anything. As for Void, I'm sort of moving away from it. Void was fine, but it takes a little maintaining sometimes to do some things, while Parabola/Arch just werks.

For some reasons mpd+ncmpcpp can't see certain mp3 files in my music folder. I couldn't figure out why. It sees the files in neighbouring subfolders though. All the codecs are installed and other programms like mocp do see and play them. it's weird

Is your pronunciation of the word "daemon" as "daymon" the standard in North America? In the UK we pronounce it as "deemon" the same as "demon". Never heard this variation before.
@LukeSmithxyz
@LukeSmithxyz 7 жыл бұрын
Really? I've never heard someone pronounce daemon like demon.
@anivegmin
@anivegmin 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah like demon here in England. I think the Greek "daimon" is closer to "daymon" but is really more like "diemon". The Latin "daemon" is pronounced "demon" here in England. Must just be another UK/US difference. Daemon and demon have pretty much the same meaning outside of the software world, I'm assuming that the modern English demon just dropped the a from daemon.

I would use this but I'm not a fan of saving music locally since my taste in music changes a lot. With for example spotify I can just type any song in the search bar and instantly stream it. (although I udnerstand u cant really do that without internet access). Also I like just using other peoples pre-made playlists since I'm too lazy to make my own.

@greob
@greob 7 жыл бұрын
foobar2000 is definitely not trash, it's really well designed and efficient, it has lots of plugin supports, which can for example load an archive file with audio files in it and play them. It's one of the few players which features tabs and it's highly customizable. Its only problem is that it's closed source. And Windows only. Foobar2000 is the best player on Windows, period.
@amarebare8811
@amarebare8811 7 жыл бұрын
I would say musicbee is the best player on windows, it has a much better tag manager and a simple layout, the most important thing for a music player. If you compress your music, you are too poor and should sell your computer to eat because storage is cheap. Also, if you listen to music on windows, you're an idiot. Edit: Foobars playlist emphasizing is hilariously dumb.
