The part where you put the line - "even the 250's had trouble through sections" @ 32 minutes - I had my 790 bogged 4 times and needed two guys pushing to help me get out of one of them. I think we went through a few weeks after you - there was less water about. Every time you think it has ended another long stretch of sand would be just around a corner. I looked forward to the rocky bits because I wouldn't get bogged in! I broke my steering damper pin about a 1/3 of the way in so that was interesting. Hardest thing I have ever done. At 56yrs old I should have known better. Great footage, but it really doesn't do the track (if you can call it that) justice.

Yep, I hear you! Not easy. Where I had the fall on film, I was actually there for 3 or 4 minutes before I lifted it up and I sat there for another 3 or 4 minutes drinking my water. One fall and 10 minutes is gone along with an hour worth of energy. Satisfying to get to the end though!

What an awesome, but exhausting ride! You guys were all champs for getting thru there in such style, but I can see that a higher speed off or a mechanical could have changed the day very quickly! I do envy the sound of your T7, you did good on that one! Thanks for all the time invested in filming and editing all this footage....great result! Cheers!

Fantastic footage mate. Top notch. 👍👍👍 It’s not difficult to see how you could get yourself into serious trouble out there. One mistake, or component failure, and things could go pear-shaped very quickly.

Awsome video to watch , brings back so many memories from august 2018 when I tackled that section myself solo on a klr 685. Rode from Alice Springs via Hermannsburg then south through finke River gorge then off to curtain Springs on dark for the night. Wasn't much water when I passed through and looks like it's changed so much but would have to say it would be the most challenging yet most amazingly beautiful section of our country I have riden. Very well done on your efforts.

@Nerb1

Just this leg? Or they whole 12000km trip? For just this leg, a 300 two stroke! For the whole trip, I love my T7. Any midsized adventure bike is made for a trip like this. A lot would say the 690/701, but I dont like them on the open road.

So what were those melons and are they edible?
@Nerb1

There are two types. Paddy melons are poisonous and afghan melons which I think are not poisonous. Both are introduced weeds in Australia. I think those ones were afghan melons because they grow bigger. Ive never tried eating one... im not game!

@Nerb1

They say it is 8 hours from Illamurta springs to Hermannsburg. We passed Illamurta at 1.40 and got to Hurmannsburg at 5.50. So about 4 hours. That morning we came from Curtain Springs, about 200km further south.

Nerb, You have a 16T sprocket on the front (or did you drop 3 in the rear), correct? Did it perform a bit nicer on the road fuel mileage, and rpm wise? Also it looked like it was fine in the sand and loose hilly areas. Was it? Thanks.
@Nerb1
@Nerb1 2 жыл бұрын
I have 3 down on the rear. It felt nicer on the highway, but it really made no difference to fuel economy (I thought it would). I did have to use a bit more throttle to take off in the sand. It is noticeable. I will go back to stock gearing when this sprocket wears out.
