I have 1 dog in standard, 1 out, and getting a 10 week old GP in 7 days with all the AKC paperwork Ect. All he has to do is be a dog and love us. Screw the standards, This will be our 3rd GP and I am so looking forward to cold winter night when he climbs into bed with my wife and I snuggles close to keep warm. They are truly the best breed of many I’ve had the pleasure of owning. You do have to be the pack leader with them or it’s a problem.

We just lost our rescue girl Lola. She was 12 years 8 months and showed little signs of aging but stopped eating normally 12 days before the end. She was never more than 74 lbs and didn’t have rear double dew claws but she was an elegant, beautiful and athletic creature. She was very affectionate to our family and a few lucky outsiders but was shy with most people, perhaps a result of her being abused in her original setting in Kentucky. She never had a doggie odor and her coat seemed to repel dirt. I can’t praise this breed enough!

My Great Pyrenees Tabitha passed last year she was 12&1/2 She was 70 lbs and we rescued her and was a real beauty people stopped their car and would comment on her beauty. She was a gentle giant and we miss her terribly. Now we have a Maltese and is cute as a button and tough as they come lol what a contrast. But love them equally ❤

When my Pharaoh Hound passed away I couldn't live without another dog. I found my 4 year old Great Pyrenees, Tommy Lee Bones, in a shelter. He lost a lot of his coat because of a flea infestation and an allergic reaction to it. Even with that, he still commands attention with his presence and the people in the neighborhood slow down as they pass us on our walk to look and smile. Amazingly gorgeous dogs. I look forward to Tommy's coat to grow in fully again.

My Great Pyrenees was on a crime spree when she was a puppy. She would take anything that wasn't nailed down. I would find sporting equipment, shoes, clothing and toys around our farm. There was some construction on a house down the road and she was very fond of plumbing parts. The cops were looking for a human. LMAO 🤔

First time pyr dad here. I am so excited and proud to have the opportunity to raise him and watching him grow. He is growing bigger literally by the day and it is simply amazing to watch! I have a question for the pyr experts out there about puppy drinking cow's milk. When my puppy first came home with a few days less than 8 weeks old, the only thing I could have gave him for comfort to ease his crying was with a bowl of milk. He was drinking exclusively half a gallon of whole cow's milk a day as a baby pup. There was no sign of digestive problem. Since he was 4 months old, he started drinking exclusively a whole gallon of milk a day. There was a water bowl on the side, but he wouldn't drink it. Again there was no sign of digestive problem. He is 5 months old now. Sometimes, he would drink milk. Other times he would drink water. It is up to his mood, but he is no longer drinking just pure milk. He is also being free feed (slowly grazing) on puppy chows with a pound of cooked meat as a supplement each night. He is growing up big, strong and healthy. There is no sign that he is being overweight and that he is physically well developed. At 3 months, he was about 23 lbs. At 4 months, he was about 48 lbs. At 5 months, he is now about 65 lbs. Other than having to constantly running to the grocery store to buy gallons of milk, my concern is in his intake of calcium. Some research shows that too much calcium is bad for a large dog breed's bone development. I asked his vet about it and she said that he is growing properly, not overweight for his frame and also not having any digestion problem with the milk and his diet. The only thing that she would recommend is that he would be getting off of puppy chows and switching over to large breed adult dog food. I gave him large breed adult food, but he doesn't like it. I would appreciate any insight you may have into his diet. Thanks!

I've had four of these guys. They ranged from 95-132 pounds, and 30-35 inches. All great dogs, though one did not like strangers or other large dogs messing with him. The tallest dog was Great Dane height, and could look down on the kitchen counter. Obviously too tall to show, but a great pet. Two died of bloat, only one made it to nine. These are a lot of dog, not for the first time owner. I currently have a newfy, a lot less work.

I have a almost 5 months old male pyr who is a handful. Chewing on everything and nipping at my hands. I've always loved the newfy breed also. I think the long black hair of a newfy would be a good pairing with a pyr. They are both very majestic breed. Can you tell me why you think that a newfy is a lot less work in comparison to a pyr? They are both huge and with long hair. I would expect them to be simular when comes to upkeep? Thanks! I know this is an old thread, but I would welcome input from anyone who could shed some light into this.
@mikeblast7507
@mikeblast7507 Жыл бұрын
@@Hossir At least in my experience, a Newie would rather hang around with you than anything else. Pyrs are kind of the opposite, they'd spend all day outside patrolling their property if they could. They also tend to be nocturnal and bark a lot. My Newie is generally very quiet and even though he's so big, he just kind of blends in. He doesn't have that guard dog gene Pyrs have, and just wants to get along with everyone. With my Pyrs I was always careful around new people, but I have no worries at all with the Newfie. Just a completely different breed.

Wow what a gorgeous dog. Forget the standards and show dog crap . it’s a cult of rude and jealous humans with the dogs being embarrassed at their owners . I had a huge , 200 lb champion great dane . When he showed up at a show one time , i over heard one woman say to her friend , “ oh shit , sirios is here. we have no chance “. Shortly after that i removed him from all shows cause i couldn’t tolerate the people . He contracted a heart worm and died shortly after that from heart failure .

My pure white pyr pup is almost 5 months old and he is doing very well and growing up big, strong and beautiful. I am not raising him as a show dog, but as a companion dog. I just want to know out of curiosity when comes to breed standard and puppy development. He is seemingly meeting all other standards in this video except for a slight butterfly nose. It is an issue with pigmentation. He was born with a slight pink patch on each of his nostrils and incomplete dark lips. As he is growing as a pup, the pink spot on one of his nostrils is now gone and the pink spot on the other side is getting smaller. This is also the case wtih the lips getting filled out black with less and less pink. The roof of his mouth is still pink and only the back of his throat has a big patch of black. My question is, is this normal for a pup? I see the other pups in the litter don't have this pigment problem. Will his pink patches eventually be all grown out and replaced with dark uniformed nose and lips? I would appreciate the expertise from experienced pyrs owners out there. Thanks! This is my first pyr puppy and I am so excited and amazed in seeing him grow. I am so proud to be owned by a pyr.

I have been feeding a stray Pyrenean for 9 months, he will not let me near him for anything. When I first started he was so timid he would take several minutes to get enough courage to go the bowl and grab a mouth full of food then run away to eat it. He has calmed down enough to go to the bowl and eat but as soon as he sees me he heads to the woods at a dead run, he even freaks when he hears my Yorkie bark. I would like to trap him but he is too smart.

I have a question for the pyr expert about bloat and feeding. What is the best way to feed a pyr to prevent bloating? I have a 5 months old pyr puppy and he is being free feed with dog food. At night, he gets about a pound of cooked meat as a supplement to his diet of dog food. Not enough to get him completely full so he'll stay on his chows. He has the habit of eating a few bites of dog food at a time throughout the day. He is also not eating out of raised bowl. Is this the proper way to feed a pyr? I would appreciate any input you may have to help bring up a pyr pup.

Asking the pyrs experts out there. Would a butterfly nose goes away from a puppy? As my pure white puppy is growing bigger, the pink patches on his nose and lips are disappearing and turning black. Will they be completely gone when the dog is fully grown? Thanks for your help!
