Third Age Total War Gameplay - The year is Third Age 933 and King Eärnil I of Gondor sent out a surprise invasion of the city of Umbar. Unbar has been a sronghold for the Hardrim and they have been using it to pillage Gondors coastline. But King Eärnil I is ready to take umbar once and for all. Enjoy the Siege battle :D

Apollo, the Dismounted Black Numenorians each got between 200 and 350 kills. And to answer your question from the start of the battle. We didn't move because paladinbob gave us 3 minutes to take a look at the map but we forgot the Tribesmen for a moment so they got some kills.

I like how the black numenorians held out for so long. Like a corrupted, evil version of the heroism of the Dunedain. As in, even after having turned to evil, they still have those same ideals and strength. ...and the Black numenorians, decendants of the followers of the true kings, stood alone against the onslaught of the West. And in them was again the might of Ar-Pharazon the Golden, and the great armada, and their swords were keen and their wrath was terrible to behold, and between themselves they slew many Elf-friends, and many dwarves, and many of the first-borne of Illuvatar who still had long years of song and joy ahead of them... (Yes alot of "and" in the same sentence but if you read Tolkien's lord of the rings you see that there is a lot of "and" in there as well :D)

I wish that the cav-unit wav recruitable and not just generals bodyguard, and that there was an archer unit of them that used the hollowed steel-bows of Numenor... And that also harad (and haven of umbar if you play DaC) could recruit them! Possibly also Angmar/Gundabad

juiuffophiguo my absolute favorite unit of all time is the dunedain steelbowmen of northern dunedain in divide and conquer. They look awesome and in terms of double sided effectiveness in both archery and melee they slaughter.... 16 attack 20 defense rivals even the most elite elven bow units

Riven RivenRiven Actually they're not the same race, Gondorians are just Descendants of Numenorians and a more mixed kind, while instead the Dunedain are direct descendants making them technically still Numenoreans, the Black Nunenoreans are corrupted Actual Numenoreans from Numenor itself

Hey there Apollo, how about this as a Third Age scenario? Just a rough idea. The defenders are in a extremely advantageous position, not necessarily bottlenecks so no boring Thermopylae situation, but are just difficult to reach, and are composed solely of elite units. The catch is that they are outnumbered by the attackers 10-to-1. OR... Another idea. Orcs are laying siege a city. The thing is that the attacking Orcs are actually outnumbered by the defenders rather than the other way around. The Orcs are made up only of elite units and the defenders, while much more numerous, and made up of the absolute lowest tier units possible. I don't know how that would play out but it seems like something interesting enough to worth a try.

It's a shame they can't do this in Divide and Conquer instead, The corsairs have their own faction there and Gondor and Dol Amroth could do the siege since they have tons of Marine-based units like The Haven Guard and the Coastal Wardens, The Lebennin Marines, the cooler looking Pelargir marines and all that

my thanks to Apollo for doing this replay...some of the other great cities of middle earth have a lot of history and backstories to them and umbar is no exception...but I know that a scenario with large cities and lotsa extra trimmings do take there toil on recording ...so a big thank you to Apollo for putting in that effort to finally bring this scenario to light!..

I like how Apollo never realised that the Black Numenorians holding that on choke point and killing multiple elite units were actually 3 different units of Black Numenorians. Still impressive, but 3 units of them killing 2 units of Swann Knights and 1 unit of Dwarves is a bit less impressive than 1 unit doing all that😅

what i don't understand: the corsairs that can be seen in the movies and their ships look much more like a mix of asian pirates and mongolians. The haven of Umbar in this battle on the other hand looks so clean and "gondorian". I can understand that the mod does not have the assets to bring a movie version of umbar to life but it is a shame nevertheless :/. Or maybe Peter Jackson took a high amount of creativ freedom and Umbar was not as cool looking as they did in the third movie.

At this time it was still (Black) Numenorean, despite obviously having a population of mainly Haradrim its lords were Numenorean so the building style will mainly be Numenorean as well. As Gondor was Numenorean as well its logical that the two rather look alike. There's obviously plenty of creative freedom in the movies to make the corsair ships look all evil and such, but also its in a different time.

IF I were Djokadal, I probably would have stationed most of my troops up on the general's platform. With the TINY chokepoint, and the possibility of great archer fire on troops below, I think it would have been best, especially since it will be a deterrent for just going after the city, because if they tried to run past into the city, they would have to worry about being hit from behind with a serious force. I still would have dedicated some troops to the ramp though, that was good. Some good infantry, and some well managed archers could make the position impossible to take.
