Great sounding bluetooth stereo in a classic car!

Wow. You gotta wonder how that thing was even running!! That fuel filter had unholy things in it. Lol. I'm an audio head from way back as well. I'm 50 years old now and it's been a few years since I had a decent system. I bought a 2012 Nissan Rogue and got a decent head unit with Bluetooth and USB input, double din. I found some decent 6x9's for the front doors (ya that's what's in it) and 6.5" for the rear doors. I also installed some standalone tweeters that Walmart sells in the plastic part of the door where the rearview mirror is. I then found some Rockford Fosgate 12" subs In a Factory box and hooked them up to the biggest amp Pyramid makes. It says 5,000 watts but we know it's not half that. Probably not a quarter of that. But it does sound amazing. The bass hits so hard and the highs are crisp. I probably have 400 in the whole system but damn it sounds a lot more expensive. I'm sure I get some strange looks, a gray-haired 50 year old dude driving around bumping. It puts a smile on my face though!! Edit .. I had sound issues as well with Bluetooth and USB input at first. I put my phone on that Dolby Atmos setting and adjusted the level for music on the phone and it fixed it perfectly.

Literally working on my first gen Toyota last weekend and my buddy begged me not to cut up my perfect dash to put in a new head unit. Still has a working factory 2 nob am radio. This will work perfect!

First off love all your material! When watching I feel like I’m hanging with a good buddy. So, I didn’t read all the comments and apologize if this was already mentioned. When using Bluetooth for music from an iPhone, ensure once you are paired and start the music, turn the volume on your phone up all the way first and then it should sound much better in the vehicles. First thing you should check for Bluetooth audio is the volume on your phone. Some/most phones today have a seperate bluetooth volume from internal speaker volume. Turn up the bluetooth volume on your phone and it shouldn't distort the audio and your stereo audio can be turned down.

I had the same issue with using Bluetooth in my cars. The solution, for me at least, was cranking the output on my phone all the way up and then back in it down one or two clicks. Sounded great.

You always want the phone volume fully up. It's sending a digital signal so if your source file doesn't have clipping the Bluetooth is never going to clip. It's not like an analog audio chain where you could induce clipping at each stage. Control the volume with the knob on the head unit.

Your bluetooth issue is that your other truck headunit thinks you are making a phone call, not listening to music. You can change the setting and it makes the bluthooth audio awesome (at least with kenwood)

I did something similar to my Datsun 210, except i put the old aftermarket pioneer premier inside the glove box and used a Bluetooth adapter off of ebay that plugs into where the cd changer would've gone. It works perfectly! I've had this setup for a few years now 👌

It’s amazing how much car audio has changed!! Once apon a time I had a bagged crew cab Chevy dually with a crazy stereo system behind and below the back seat. I remember my old Phoenix gold 1200 watt amps. Took up the whole back wall!!!

Tbf the amp he’s used is actually 390W & that’s quoted at 10% THD. Realistically, at an acceptable level of distortion, it’s probably a 200W amp - which ofc is still more than enough for the application. The 1500 in the name is just the name, it has nothing to do with the spec as far as I can tell.

Very cool setup! I have been using integrated Bluetooth amps for everything for years now. Used a 8 channel marine Rockville on my skiboat and it absolutely rocks. 4 in boat and two tower speakers, no wires other than power and speaker wires.

i have been running a aux chord to an amp in my 66 f100, it always had issues with left and right channel from the chords. i installed this blue tooth adapter you used, i already had an equivalent EQ in a box of old stereo equipment. this works so much better, and is louder. thanks for the tip!

Having the same issue in my tj…. My old actual cd head unit was amazing. Install a single din Bluetooth capable unit and it just sucks. Had to get rid of my old head unit due to the same cd being stuck in it for 11 years. You can only listen to the same cd when you’re in the mountains due to no cell service for 11 years. Black Keys are great but I needed a break !

I went true a similar problem with my dad's old truck. He burn 4 of those electric pumps up mounting them under hood. They just are not designed to suck fuel that far. Mounted close to tank it will pump it just fine. Great job on radio. 😁👍

The issues with your volume difference on blu tooth if you have an iPhone can be changed. There is a max output volume your phone will set because it thinks the blu tooth is a headset or headphones and it’s set to not hurt your ear drums but can be changed

Awesome, I have a chopped, LS swapped, lowered '68 C10 that would work great on, the radio delete plate will make a great switch panel. How about posting the parts you used and sources and just a quick estimate of the cost. I was into high end audio and vehicle systems decades ago but everything is so much better now. I have a Jambox in my truck now and it would be nice to use my phone for more than a scheduler.

9:15 sounds like you have the mixer on your phone setup for movie, or surround sound or something. On Samsungs I have gotten great Bluetooth quality for years. But, the newer models really try to push their fancy EQ settings on you right out of the box. So I have to go in the settings and set it to flat or custom and play with it while hooked up to head unit.

I mounted my electric pump down on the frame at the rear of the cab on my D50. You still hear it when it's running. I kept the stock dash panel with the 2 knob out my truck in my parts stash. Didn't feel right cutting it up. My parts pickup had the dash panel that was already cut for a head unit, so I'm running that panel. Still running the stock door speakers and some small pods behind the seats. They sound good enough for my around the area trips. Definitely digging the D50 content!

Ran this sort of set up in my work car for years cause the gm radios are part of the chime system. As far as your sound. Turn off all your auto sound settings on your phone and make sure your using the highest bitrate possible on your streaming service. Higher bitrate = better sound. But no it will never sound as good as a CD because the data isn't normally there. Also make sure you keep that bus bar insulated. That's a good way to have a fire 🔥 truck. I would have went with the distro Block covered in plastic. Great video. Keep up the good work!

Bluetooth audio is ultimately trash...Compressed with artifacts. As a musician and audiophile I just can't listen to music with bluetooth. I would rather go grab some RCA cables! Love the show Dave!

You can run into issues with too many EQs when dealing with BT audio from your phone. Your device has an EQ, often the apps have another EQ, then you've got whatever your hardware has. So check your phone and try to turn all the EQs to flat or off. Also, sometimes you need to turn the audio to max on your phone with a car BT connection.

Wow that takes me back. My first vehicle was a 79 Plymouth arrow got it in 92. I pulled that black panel off and built a sealed wedge box with a 12" woofer no back and bottom. Sealed it with liquid nails. Actually sounded pretty good 😂.

This brings back memories of my high school and college (‘01-08) days of doing aftermarket stereos in my vehicles. I got into woodworking from building sub boxes for people 😂🤣😂. That’s wild how small that amp is. I remember running multiple amps. My accord (it was turbo’d too 😉) used an mtx amp for the components (infinity) and a Profile California amp (mainly because it was pretty lol) for the sub (Infinity Kappa 12”). I built custom spare tire well box And a false floor in the trunk where everything was recessed.

Ya..We are Old school.."were the same age"..i just put a system in my 05 Ram..i got a Walmart head unit a Boss mono block 1100 wat amp with amp control with 2- 500wat RMS 12's, and JBL. -6×9's and -6.5" in the doors...best system i have had in like 22Yrs...But the "new" stuff ..Bluetooth..answer your phone from the head unit is all new to me...the Bluetooth sounds Great through My Walmart stero..and Cricket phone..was very Supprised at that..purdy Rad set up your doing..i like..will do something like the in my 65 Fury...

Hey Dave your content is amazing. With your Bluetooth issue, if you're using spotify or maybe even another app, you can adjust the audio quality in the settings menu, which could be affecting the sound quality you're getting. I know spotify for a fact will have low audio quality as base settings unless you change it.

I had looking for a way to relocate radio so i can have pyro, boost gauges in its place instead of tacky pillar pods. This video will be a great help for that 🤟🏽

Two things. One. Your phone volume affects your Bluetooth volume. Have your phones volume all the way up when BT-ing to your car stereo. Two. Wired car play(I’ve only used the Apple one)is miles better to me than any BT solution. Most aftermarket headphones unit have nowadays I believe.

Sounds like you didn't have the Bluretooth volume turned up on your phone. I had a cheap Boss head installed with new speakers, and as long as the audio was good from the source (Pandora, Spotify, Heart mostly) it sounded really good. Also works fine through my 2015 Ram stock system via Bluetooth.
