NY Real Estate is unbelievable eh!! My Grandfather use to buy Row Homes on 11th St in Brooklyn to flip and give to his Kids!! I think he must have owned every house on the block at one time, he even owned the 2 story gas station on the corner with a car elevator!! I have an Aunt that still lives there!! Back then he would pay about 5 grand a piece for them, now they are selling at 3-5 Million!!☻

I'm surprised that metal scrappers aren't around that area. In the suburrburbs of Chicago, I see dozens of scrappers, in their beat-up pick-ups, going down my block every week. Those tools would have definitely been recovered by someone here in my area.

I gotta tell ya Scout, this throw away society breaks my heart. I should be glad because people like us benefit from it but we can only find a tiny fraction of what gets thrown away, and we can save even less. I watched a video the other day and it claimed to be the only plier maker in Japan, which is not true, but they were making slip joint pliers like the bent ones you found (just straight though) and what struck me was the amount of manufacturing it took to make them. There were a lot more steps than I would have ever guessed. Cheers mate. Stu🇦🇺

A great pleasure is rescuing tools, a few moons ago I worked for the city of Vancouver, BC as a mechanic at their remote landfill. I was there for over 3 years, I brought a “treasure” home everyday. From tools to ingots of nickel to plane props. I still love to restore, or just make a tool work again. Cheers

You also can’t beat finding a heavy duty jack ,especially in ScoutCrafter red 🟥 , What??😲🤯👍. I would love seeing the clean up on that jack or the socket set and case. Those couple of hand tools 🛠 you cleaned up turned out Fantastic. I especially like those Proto slip joint bent nose pliers you restored and that S-K tools speeder wrench,awesome job 👍. The vintage Craftsman jigsaw turned out fantastic, now it is ready for service again. That has to have a special feeling to know your great grandfather built those houses 🏘 back in the day. That's one nice cache of tools! IMO the shining star was the rolling floor jack, hands down. Now that would be a nice candidate for a restoration and tune-up. Thanks again for another great episode!

SC, NICE HAUL!! I have a similar Snap-On Speed Wrench that I restored a few years back to use. I found that I do use it only once or twice a year. It seems that the only place Speed Wrenches get used on any regular basis is in the Military. I have not seen a Mechanic use one in decades.

Your Grandpa would be astonished that the house he built 100 years ago ia now selling for over a million $$$$. It would be interesting to know what the materials cost him to build it. My Dad (with help from my 2 uncles) built our first family home in Willits Ca. in 1950, the year I was born. It was a modest 2 bedroom, 1 bath, with garage, most likely about 1000-1200 sq. ft. single story. He worked at a sawmill (there were 4 or 5 in town) and got a good deal on the framing lumber (I doubt if any plywood was used at all). The total cost he spent on materials was $250. Yep. Two fifty. Even applying inflation that only equals about $3200 now.

Incidentally, my Dad was the garbage man locally for years, and I've often joked that the only reason he sold out was he ran out of room to store all the "goodies" LOL (It really wasn't a joke either)

My favorite is the hole punch. I’ve worn out a few pair in the upholstery shop. It amazes me the ignorance of people. The money they threw away not to mention the quality of the tools. A good industrial floor jack empties the wallet pretty fast. Congratulations on your little gold mine. Thank You

Oooooh that first socket you picked up, the S_K Wayne is 1960's. Just like my 1/2 drive set. They dropped the Wayne years later, but those S-K Wayne are the best, so keep an eye out for them. Cool!

Hey John, As soon as I saw the SK box and the jack I said he's got to take them. I think that the SK socket set was the best find. Years ago I was having a tag sale and my next door neighbor asked if she could join me sense her husband had died 6 months earlier. I said sure. She put out a SK socket set similar to the one you just found and someone asked to buy them and she said $3.00 for it. I jumped in and said that they weren't for sale and gave her $10.00 She was happy and so wasn't but the guy was pissed. Amazing how people though stuff out or get rid of them without thinking or knowing. Later

I have a couple of the Gold bond buckets, gypsum was mined in the towns of Clarence and Akron just outside of Buffalo NY. Great save on the tools. It's scary to think of all of the tools that have been thrown out.

Great tool rescue. They did not need to go to the landfill. I really like Plomb/Proto stuff. So the pliers are my fave out of the bunch. And…I would have been really disappointed if you hadn’t picked up the jack.

What’s up John great finds and restos brother ✅ I didn’t have a good week this past week a few things but nothing Crazy. As an Avid poor mans flea market shopper I as well take what I see but when someone has 3 Pales full of tools then a black bag that is heavy I’m not gonna lie I have to take a peak and everytime I did in the past there’s always more tools in them and it’s usually the hand tools and parts meaning sockets or chains ⛓️ or random items that’s when you walk away you say to yourself “Wow what a score”😂 - Glad they ended up with you or I would of been searching and maybe me lol 👍🏼 . As long as they don’t end up in the landfill . Ttys thanks for the video.

John that was a great haul!!! I try to get rusty tools that I find cleaned up with a rotary tumbler I have access to at work. You can toss in sockets and they look great in about an hour!! Do you resell your saved tools? I usually find someone who needs them and give it to them. Great job… keep it up!! Thanks again!

That's a great tip for people like me who sometimes pick up used power tools -- spray the switch with some electrical cleaner. Never occurred to me before. As for the Poor Mans Flea Market, I'm always amazed at the useful, practical and even valuable things people throw away. Are their owners too rich or just too impatient to be thrifty? Some of your finds were top quality names. I especially liked the sockets. I can't imagine tossing out SK sockets. Thank you for keeping these good tools out of the dump.

My guess is that they do not realize what they have. If they don’t use tools they may think they have no more value than yesterday’s newspaper. Also, most Americans seem to judge purchases only by the price and do not consider the difference in quality. It’s as if every tool is just as good as any other tool so which ever one costs less is the best value.

Nice tool finds Scout! Unreal what people will throw out. I would have packed that vintage floor jack away for sure! It looked like one of the better quality, which are quite rebuildable and go for some decent money. Nothing wrong with those S-K tools either. I have some of that vintage and use them often with no problems ever. I live out in the country, so we don't have the poor man's flea market to look through, but if we did, I would certainly partake! Can't wait to see what you dig up next!

the Stanley Square with the brass inlay is a nice find. Some of them that look similar (with that brass inlay pattern) are from the turn of the century. I have a "couple" (ok,....four) and use them for wood working projects

Sometimes old diagonal cutters came with a notch like the linesman pliers for stripping wire. Heck, I can't find tools that nice at my regular flea markets!

For halloween you could make a really horrible tool! Very sharp edges, asymmetrical grind, leave rust and pitting, bend it wrongly. Enough to scare a guy to tears.

Nice finds. Those sockets are a gold mine. If you have the time figure out how much those tools will cost if you bought them online. As to the saber saw, I have that model plus several others. For some reason no one wants corded tools. I bought a Milwaukee angle grinder, 1/2 drive screw gun and a 8 inch circular saw for $23 at an auction. I guess they either don't want to work or think battery is the only thing. One of my hole punches which is the one I use most of the time is from England. I like yours as it doesn't have an outside spring for the head changing. Those old buckets are nice. I have ignore the old metal ones because I don't use 5 gallon buckets much, but I watched a people cooking in the mountains of another country and they use those old metal buckets as portable cooking fire rings. I thought, how basic and yet clever. Of for the price of that home, you could have a farm here or a house with a large heated metal fun shop with 1 million left over. Plus you can hunt with a rifle or a pistal larger tha .22. Probably no poor man's flea market as unless in an expensive city, people don't throw out good stuff.

Scout, you showed the house your grandpa built and it was 1 of 3 he built, and the price. Wouldn't it been nice if you could have held onto all 3 and what you'd be worth now. My ancestors came through chitown in 1850 with a bucket of gold. They bought 400 acres here in NW Idiotnoise but imagine buying 400 acres of land in chitown and what it would be worth today...Elon who?
