Great trails you've not ridden yet - North Cardiff

Got back home, 5 hours later with 1 mile range left in the battery. It's been recharging in the bike room. I've just unplugged it and it now has 70 miles range in Auto mode, not bad, but then in reality, when you're climbing 1,127 metres of elevation gain, and weighing 14 stone plus carrying 2 litres of water, tools, FF helmet, neck brace, first aid kit, spare hoodie, and snacks, the actual range I can get is 40 kms when riding North Cardiff trails. I rode 33 kms in Auto mode, and the rest in Eco+, which I had to select when the battery was on its final bar, Eco plus just about got me up the hills on the way home, very slowly and my legs are still feeling that effort. The bike weighs 26.5kg. So, riding it in Eco or Eco+ is better than having to push the bike home in walk mode for the last 6 or 7 kms.
I'm not trying to put anyone off getting an EMTB, but just consider, not only distance you'll be covering but also the elevation gain. A spare battery costs £500 and weighs 3.5kg so could be carried in a hydration backpack but that weight is going to be felt plus the wallet will feel that but definitely an option for long rides or with backpacking where recharging isn't available.

@@KongraDNBI’m from Cardiff so these are my local trails so I do ride here a lot. If you can ride blue or red graded trails I’d say these are in that scope. Over in steetly woods there’s some bits I won’t ride as too steep and there’s a section full of dirt jumps which is way above my skills but the rest is blue to red level. 👍🏼

Nice one. Some great riding. Trails look perfect. Always good to send that gap at the Ganol. Not done that one in a while - last time I did I cased the back wheel - twice on two runs. Have to have another go when the ankle has healed.

Trails look in much better condition, nice one on the gap jump there, I haven't done that one yet. Good to push yourself from time to time init, I went to afan masts for the first time yesterday that was an eye opener!

I'm just going to watch your upload as masts is on my list but a bit wary lol. Yep that gap I found impossible to do when the ground is wet as can't get the speed up to clear it and not one I'd want to risk casing as there's protruding wood. Got to push the limits but when the conditions are right. I'd have to err on the side of caution.

@@jjmtb1762I’ll be at ty nant at 5 (usually every Tuesday / Thursday) from the car park it’s a quick ride up to some very nice trails and jumps, then head over to gwaelod for a mix of steep tech to flowing chunky hand built. The s bends called zig zags is great even in the wet, might see you there, I’ll be going later I can show you around

Aye all sorted, wheel was good tyre burped off the rim so was off. Swapped it for a Dissector on the front. Mark Hurley said he knows Ian, if that's you? We'll have to do a ride up there again.

Great video! I found your video after riding the same area on Sunday, and now looking for more similar stuff in the area (we live in Cardiff).
