Hi Jim. Cracking video, thank you for sharing the information on all those. Loving that S90 for the money! Thank you VERY much for shouting me out at the end. I really appreciate you doing that for me. To be honest I was totally blown away by it. Thank you for giving me such a glowing report! It was great chatting to you the other day, I look forward to speaking to you again one day. All the very best! Mark

Cheers Jim, how reliable are the tax figures on these cars. With the cars less than 5 yrs old and were over £40k list price don’t you pay more than the standard rate stated in the add? Someone could get a nasty surprise when it comes due!
@DefinitelyNotAGuru8 ай бұрын
No idea I’m afraid mate, they do all seem suspiciously similar but I’m well out of tune with how VED works these days
@Trappygit8 ай бұрын
I have a 330d Touring on a 68 plate and the tax is £540ish a year. Insurance is £800. I bought it at £27k on 10k miles 14 months ago. I've paid out £450 a month on HP and now it's worth £20k. Admittedly, I bought it during the chip shortage when used prices went silly, but this thing is costing me a bomb. I just ordered one of those Cupra Leon V1s on a 1+23 for £250 a month to replace it. The BMW is a superb all rounder (46mpg in my hands) but it's too pricey for me. The Cupra will be almost half the monthly cost and has a lot more modern toys. That N57 is a powerhouse though and it even sounds glorious. I will miss it...
@deano35808 ай бұрын
Too right. You get hit with a VED surcharge of 390GBP every year between Years 2 and 6 if the car cost over 40K when new. Thats on top of whatever the standard VED is. That is going to come as a nasty surprise to a lot of folk in the next few years.
@worldofcars_ldn8 ай бұрын
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru this ‘luxury car’ tax will also apply to EVs from April 25 (which will be most of them based on current new prices) as well as them starting to pay VED - could be a subject for another video!

Great vid, very handy info. My Evoque lease ends at the end of this year, need a family car with space no less than the Evoque and cheaper running costs. 2nd hand or a new lease (maybe via my own ltd company), ev/petrol undecided, but the Q5 looks tempting! Thanks for surfacing these decent options!

Had a 2005 Corolla around 10 years ago. Only got it as a last resort as someone wrote off my Ford, so needed something asap for work. I swore I'd never keep the Toyota, but I got used to the shape and I was hugely impressed by the reliability (way way way better than Ford). Clocked up 165000 miles on it then bought a civic which has been just as dependable and easy to service. I do like the look of the new Corolla so I'm thinking of buying one this year. Already seen a few of my workmates go over to the Toyota Corolla side so I may be next....

Leased a Leon for a coupe of years. The 1.5 litre engine is cracking too. I had the manual which was great fun. Much better looking than the golf in my opinion so long as you don't consider a VW badge as premium over Seat.

Hi Jim, do you think the Honda Civic EHEV sport trims at £26-27k ex demonstration (10-15,000 miles on the clock) is a cheap deal overall, can you see these cars holding value well or not depreciating quite so dramatically as new after 2 years if requiring to sell? Thanks
@DefinitelyNotAGuru7 ай бұрын
It’s really hard to say with all the changes going on but Hondas usually hold value quite well. 10/15k seems a lot for an ex demo. I’d try and get 3 years free servicing thrown in plus extended warranty. Great car.
@WhiteJonathan7 ай бұрын
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru thanks for the advice, I believe a lot of the salesmen have been using these demos on the side to be honest (atleast with a chat with one dealership) a lot of them seem to have the additional silver trim pack’s or black spoilers applied to them for the show factor, I did test drive one and as per your video, you’re right! Brilliant all round car 👌

Interesting on the honda . I've got the last gen civic with 12,000 miles and FHSH. Been back to dealer 3 times in 4 months, still has rattles, TPMS fault and ( my fault for not long enough test drive ) poor long drive seating position. Previous honda had for 8 years with no issues. Brand damaged.

Hey Jim, I’m looking at spending around £10k for a second car but with a bit of style. Not fussed about mpg or insurance (53 years old). Up to 20 years old, 2 seater would be fine. Was thinking Merc SL or CLS but worried about reliability issues. Would live to know your thoughts

You can book a call if you want a chat James, difficult to give advice via the comments with limited info. Reliability might be an issue on those two though.

I think the Seat Leon FR are decent value for money, great to drive but I would only get one in manual, no thanks to the DSG. Totally agree on the built quality on the new Audis, recently went to view a Q7 and it was poor inside and the drive too, opted for the X5 instead
