I've had my 2015 Focus Titanium X 1.0 125hp since new and its been a dream. £20 a year tax and 50mpg easily pays for the wet belt which ill be replacing come the new year. I know the 1.0 ecoboost has a horrible reputation but I'm guessing the regular maintenance has kept me being one of the lucky ones. Big thanks for the vids Jim. Great stuff 👍.

my old 2014 focus 1.0 ecoboost was a nightmare even though it was brand new and serviced every year religiously... between the degas hose and coolant bottle bursting, the heater matrix leaking into the footwell and then the engine seizing i got shot of it once the 3 years warranty ran out.... it put me off fords for life

Bought a 3 year old bmw 320d efficient dynamics f31 estate from a car supermarket with 55000 miles on it for £10700. Had it for seven and a half years. Just gone up to £35 a year tax , averages 50 mpg locally and have seen up to 70 mpg on longer trips. Other than servicing every year all that its needed was an alternator and a battery. It handles really well , its not too big on the road, its quick and theres space for 5 plus 2 Labradors in the boot. Keep thinking of replacing it but it'll be a hard act to follow.

I bought a 2 year old mondeo 2L Diesel powershift titanium-X estate for £10,475 and I've had it just over 10 years now. Everything is original just 1 set of tyres is all it's cost me so far. Probably a similar age To your BMW.

@@chrishart8548 seeing as though it's a video about £30 car tax, how much is the Mondeo ?
@chrishart8548Ай бұрын
@glenm2113 it's £210 now band F. At the time is wasn't bad for a large automatic estate car. Previously I had a focus 1.8tddi manual and that was also Band F. So 1 class higher and and automatic same road tax. It was £110 in 2005. They did do a 1.6tdci manual mondeo estate econetic that was £35 a year the later one was £0 but to have the 1.6 and a manual won't have been as much fun. As the 2L 163hp powershift.
@glenm2113Ай бұрын
You say you paid £10495 for the Mondeo at 2 years old. Think they were approximately 30k new. That means someone lost £19500 in 2 years on it. Or £187 a week . Puts a bit of road tax into perspective.

The Aygo is really easy to look after, cheap to run, low tax, reliable, but the cloth is not the best for stop and go traffic. If the London traffic is awful, the Aygo makes it worse. It is not necessarily the best car for first time drivers. It can improve your confidence or it can destroy the little confidence you have as first time driver. 🧐

Never fancied any version of the Sandero but quite fancy an almost new Duster, won't buy a brand new car again after losing a load on 1. A neighbour bought a brand new 1 it looks fantastic with bronze mirrors wheels & badges it has everything in it & im sure its has enough poke as i think its either 130 or 150bhp. One thing to note regarding imports - they have a flat ved (tax) rate. I can't remember what £££ it is off the top of my head. Around £200-£300 I think 🤔. Even if it's a Prius unfortunately.

I wouldn't knock the Dacia stepway without trying it, having owned lots of smaller cars it is by far the most sorted as in driver ergonomics and well up there with the Renault equivalents, yes it's cheap and as with all these little cars it's plastic but look at Dacia's market compared to all other small cars.

Thanks, but wait to see what Labour do, we will get hit. Keeping my 11 year old Fiesta currently zero tax but will go up to £20 I think. OK it is an ecoboost but regular oil changes and done the wet belt, so hope for the best. Main car is an EV, aalso zero now, but going up next year, so a zero emission EV tax will be more than an old Fiesta? The EV tax is retrospective for all existing EVs, normally we do not have retrospective tax changes, hence the whole range of different rates.
