It's me, the Matt Jantzen from Durham who ordered the All You Need is Fuzz t-shirt at 5:50 in the episode. Tomorrow I graduate with my doctorate after working on it for 6 years, but that pales in comparison to hearing my name spoken on an episode of That Pedal Show. My three year-old son and I watch TPS every single week. Some of the first names he ever learned to say were "Mick and Dan." Thanks for all you guys do!

The AC30 is pure magic. I have my own theory why it doesn't work for some: when I first played through mine I had been playing for about 13 years or so, and suddenly it was as though I was playing for the first time. I was noticing so many playing habits and techniques that just did not translate into how the AC30 sounds, and my playing sounded sloppy and garbage. There's a transparency to it that really emphasizes the individuality of your gear and playing (good and bad), and it takes a lot of time and dedication to learn how to play with it's strengths so it will play to yours. It's not an amplifier where you dial in the sound you want; it dials the sound from you. I could see how that process would not work for a lot of people, but for me it is inspiring and there's nothing I love playing through more.
@ThatPedalShow2 жыл бұрын

Really good show. I had made up a Matchless DC30 clone and struggled a bit getting my pedal board to sound good with it. when i first started playing guitar i bought this cheap multi-effects pedal from korg that had a couple amp emulations on it.. id be on AC10 or AC30 non-stop. Years later i started playing more electric gigs and it was a no-brainer.. went with the AC10 and i couldnt be happier. Something about Vox's sound is just MONEY to my ears. Love this video guys! gave me some ideas for pedals and settings for some more cool tones.
@greghill61176 жыл бұрын
Great video fellas! It has taken me many years to learn this simple lesson: The pre-amp has to push the input of the power amp sufficiently to achieve the sweet spot regardless of how much gain you use. This allows both sections to work together in an organic way with just the right amount of sustain and compression. Too much input from the pre-amp (or pedal) and the sound will get squishy, the treble harsh and the low end will get muddy/flubby. This is why I have amps with both pre-amp gain and pre-amp volume (don't confuse these 2) then you can push the frontend of the power section just enough to get the range of dynamics you need. After setting this up the next stage is the master volume which will provide an additional level of saturation from the power section (only if pushed to loud levels) which can be attenuated by a soak. I personally don't like soaks so I have amps I can change the wattage with.

The best thing I ever put in front of my vox was a tumnus, and still is! Tumnus gain down to 9 oclock and used in the same was as the bad bob with the amp set to where it's most dynamic. Between the volume on the guitar and the tumnus you have a world of range and it all sounds like your guitar and your amp - not like you just plugged into a new rig when you give it gas.

Thanks so much, gents, excellent show. You are the highlight of my week. I have two requests, from things you've mentioned of late: -The Hudson Broadcast came up again today. I got one recently based having discovered it in your show about different overdrives about a year ago (a long quest.) I’d love to see you dig into it, also fuzz and other pedals with good dynamic response, with tips about the techniques to get the most out of that quality. -A few episodes ago you had a new Princeton, and said we'd see more of it. (Please?) A show on the sweet spots in that and other Blackface amps done in a similar way to how you just brilliantly got the best of the AC30 would be great.

I know exactly what point Dan is referring to, when I first started to play guitar I was always kind of scared of that, because I felt it was too loud (back then). Nowadays, I turn my amp all the way up and I still can't hear it over my brother's drumset! But yeah, when I play I always try to get at least to that point if I can, that's where everything nice starts to happen. I think this has been my favourite episode of TPS so far. With some of the others, I rather feel like I don't really understand some of the things you talk about, myself being not really experienced with many amps, or many guitars, or many pedals. But this episode, I really can relate to that point were everything just makes sense. That point that I know is the reason the bands I like sound the way they do. Awesome sounds all around!

So hyped for what's to come! You've already taught me a lot about my own tone and tone in general. I found my Vox Bruno TB18C1 sort of by accident when I set out to find an AC15 but it's the best thing that could've happened. It made me dive into pedals more as well as learn how an amp should sit in a (recorded) mix. You already made me go out and get a King of Tone and I"m now toying with the idea of a Broadcast. And it's not gonna be the last thing either, I'm afraid.

Gents - just a quick note to let you know that this episode helped me immensely. I had band practice last night and after watching this video last week I feel like I finally got my AC30 tones dialed in so much better in the band mix, plus I could hear myself without being too pokey or thin, plus I had so much more control over my tone and timbre from my guitar volume/tone/pickup combinations. Even my band-mates commented on the great tones as well. Plus I feel like my amp responded better to my pedals like never before as well. You really helped me to find that 'sweet spot' that opens these amps up and makes 'em so special! Thanks for making these videos, and I'm so glad you did one on the AC30. Keep up the great work! Cheers. -Tim in Minneapolis, MN, USA

@randerson28426 жыл бұрын
Did you use an attenuator too Tim?
@timbradley6 жыл бұрын
WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU. 😂 No, my band plays pretty loud rock music (and we are lucky to practice in a big space) so I'm able to 'open up' my AC30 enough to where I can find that sweet spot of clarity and crunch, all while it can respond well to my pedals and guitar tone/vol. At home, it's trickier (I don't own an attenuator), but I've got a master volume on my amp so I can dial in my preamp to try to find that sweet spot I found in the band, and then keep the master low. On evenings when my wife is out of town I might push that master up a bit as much as my ears can handle in my home studio. It certainly isn't as good as when you can open it up in the band, but it IS an AC30, haha. Good luck!

Nothing better than to get your TPS fix 20 minutes before band rehearsal... Cheers from a rehearsal space in Croatia! :)

Dan you've inspired me to get a Vox style amp, and I've been enjoying it since I got it a couple of weeks ago. So thanks for that haha

Ive watched every show since the beginning (on the gig rig channel) but it's been quite a while since I've commented. That said, I have to chime in here... these tones and subsequent inspired playing from you both this episode were simply fantastic. Most appreciated and informative as always. Thank you. Dig it.

Amazing show, such phenomenal tones with insane chemistry between you two. I look forward to seeing what comes next guys. I'm inspired and blown away by this and get goose bumps from every note played. Form Tele to strat, single coil to humbucking Gibson's this episode really pleases the soul! Keep up the magic

Thank you Kyle! Not everybody gets it but we’re glad you do. You are why we make the show - thank you!

CONDOR!!!! I use the same harmonic tremolo-esque setting on mine (and as an EQ’d boost, and a soupy univibe-type thing if you ramp the bass too). Haven’t tried an expression pedal yet... It’s so good!

You guys crack me up. I love how much you two love guitar and the way you express yourselves. So English.😂 I recently purchased an AC15 C1 and a Soul Food after watching a series of your videos and am totally in love with guitar again. Thanks guys and keep up the awesome work.
