Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I've been learning from you for quite awhile now; I'm grateful for the information you share, it changes lives. As for the cost of the tool, we too are saving up for one. I believe life is full of choices. We choose this. Our kids and grandchildren will receive home preserved tasties for Christmas instead of more "stuff". Just think how quickly one could save up for this if we made other choices with how we spend or save our money. I'm good with that!

So you're moving? This is why we need all our preps in a separate bug out location in case we need to move or have to leave our homes. I'm sure you've covered this topic in one of your many discussions Thanks for the vid

in a SHTF situation, are you planning on using your freeze dryer for winter storage of your harvest? if so what plans do you have to keep it running! Can it be powered by solar or a propane or gas generator, and is there anything that you have to stock up on to be able to use it besides fuel or batteries! Or would it be more practical to resort to old methods of drying and root cellars for storage !

Great video! How much water do you need to add? I look forward to your comparison of the cooked vs uncooked [I suspect that the cooked will be trickier to rehydrate without making it soggy].

I agree that's why I wanted to make sure I had raw. Blessings

I just pulled 10 lbs of ground beef out of my dryer - 6 lbs of cooked slider sized patties and 4 lbs of taco seasoned ground beef - I learned to take I easy on salting foods before drying them. I want to try the freeze dried pickle powder -

Mmmmm, I'll be right over. Now that looks like stored beef I could sink my teeth into. OldeGuido really dislikes the special taste of canned beef. I would be interested in your comparison of the taste of ground beef from various processes of long term storage. (pressure canned, dehydrated, freeze dried, etc...) Thx.

Does anyone know why some freeze dried food, like Back Country, claim only a 2 or 3 year shelf life while others claim up to 25 years?

I was thinking about buying the Sam's Club raw hamburger patties and just throwing them in the FD. They are already the recommend thickness and very uniform. I suspect that freshly cooked will taste better. However, I always battle with the thought if things are so bad, that I have broken into the FD food; cooking fuel and supplies will probably add more difficulty to difficult situation. Ah the internal battle, to cook or not to cook.
@tonicbabydriver8 жыл бұрын
this thought crossed my mind. im sure your freeze dryer won't always produce food storage only items. how nice to take advantage of a good price and then instead of cramming your freezer just store them in mylar. shtf, i would like my foods pre cooked i think.

WHY? Why would you consume so much energy to cook then all that energy and time to dry out a burger when you can make a fresh burgers when you want one. I could understand if your stock piling or you’re sending it to the space station or even going on a long camping trip but really!
