It's a Great White. One of the most amazing creatures on this planet. You experienced something so amazing that so few will ever experience. If it wanted to eat you it would have nose bombed you 6-feet in the air and then taken a bite of you just to realise it didn't like the taste. As much as you might like the shark to play by your rules and Steve to put the shark on the naughty step for breaching and trying to bite your paddle, it's never going to happen. When you're in the ocean, consider yourself an uninvited guest.

Because panic and fast movement tells the shark you're a snack and it's time to eat before the prey escapes. Have you seen or heard of people standing their ground and screaming at a bear during bear attacks? It's the same sorta thing.. predators usually stick to what they know is easy food. Cant hunt if you're too injured :)

The man wasn't in any real danger. The shark was trying to identify the kayak and was attracted to the electric signal it was giving off with the tech. As soon as the shark realized the kayak was not edible, it left. Unless you got dead fish dangling about your boat, the sharks will lose interest quickly.

Sharks are not aggressive and do not have any interest in eating humans, we taste like crap to them. He was probably curious or as another person mentioned could have been drawn to the boat by him fishing and the equipment he was using. Deaths caused by sharks are almost always caused by the shark mistaking the human for a seal, biting, and swimming away once they get a taste, leaving the human to bleed out. Many species including the great white are also at risk of going extinct due to the disgusting shark-fin soup trade, the continued fear-mongering causing people to kill them for no reason out of fear, and trophy fishers who think killing an innocent creature makes them a badass.
