I lost my sense of taste for a few days when I had coronavirus. Was absolutely petrified of losing it forever. Thankfully it returned, but that brief period without it was brutal. The first day, I had a bowl of cream of mushroom soup and figured I’d throw in some cayenne pepper to try and “wake up” my taste buds. Nope. Eating something spicy without being able to taste it is hell on earth to me. I then found myself eating things solely based on texture. Cereal became a fast favorite of mine, it’s a very texturally interesting food. I just about cried when I found I could taste again. God bless this guy. He’s living my nightmare.

I have experienced the exactly same phenomena back in 2008. It started as cold and when I got healthy, I’ve noticed I can smell but I lost the ability to taste food. I can “feel” spicy, sour, sweetness but I never knew it was different from “tasting”. People think when this happens you will eat less and loose weight, but the opposite happened to me. I ate more because I wished that my next bite I would get back my ability to taste , .... I kept trying and taking extra bite just for hoping to get my ability to taste food. I lost my ability to taste but I could smell just fine. But amazing thing was after 7 month later, without any sign, I regained the ability to taste . Thank god I can enjoy food again and I hope this will never happen ever again. Still today I am not sure what caused me to loose taste and what triggered to regain my taste.
