Anne of Green Gables was published in 1908 and tells the story of a lively and talkative eleven-year-old orphan girl named Anne Shirley who goes to live with Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert, middle-aged sister and brother who live on their farm, Green Gables, located on Prince Edward Island, Canada. The book, the first of a series, has sold over fifty million copies and been translated into 36 languages. There have been stage, TV, movie, animation, anime, and radio adaptions of the book. There is also a delightfully illustrated Anne of Green Gables Graphic novel which the digital edition is free to read if you are an Amazon Prime member. If not check your library or bookstore. My favorite production is the 1985 four-hour Canadian TV series starring out reader, Megan Follows which I’m sure is streaming somewhere. (P.S. This book is not just for girls or children 😉)
