This is why it is imperative that you do your due diligence when buying land or building your dream home. The land is reserved as a water way which means it gets water logged during rainy season, and is therefore an unstable foundation to build upon. This happens too in the States where people build their homes in an Arroyo, (a dry river bed) and wonder why they're flooded when the rains come. Great job Minister Henry Quartey.

Thanks Mr. Quartey for such a good leadership. Have you thought about transferring those responsible for issuing those building permits? Their selfish ambitions is the cause of these unauthorized structures sprawling up within the city. People must be held accountable in this nation. We cannot allow the old crude ways of doing business in Ghana to continue this way.

This is the only minister who seems to be working in Ghana, l am afraid. Nadmo get working and stop talking too much. How come these officials couldn’t do anything on their numerous visit? Please help this minister to succeed. Some people in Ghana will selfishly fill their pockets without thinking of the consequences on others. This is more so with lands allocation in Accra-Tema metropolitan area. KUDOS TO YOU MINISTER, WE SALUTE YOU FOR YOUR NO NONSENSE APPROACH TO OUR PLIGHT DURING THE RAINY SEASON. GOD BLESS.

I like this minister and we need so many of such people. He is just like the Roads and Highways minister. Indiscipline, ignorance and arrogance are killing us as people. Bravo, Mr. Minister! Accra is our capital and it needs better planning to make it a lively place to live. How can you live in a city without parks to take a walk or place to relax and meet people? We visit other countries and praise them for having beautiful towns and cities but when it has to do with Ghana, we want to be lawless and turn all our cities into shantytowns and blame it on the white man. Please enforce the laws of the land to ensure proper development. If any of your subordinates engage in bribery to issue permits to people to build any how, fire such an individual and make sure to prosecute him/her as well to serve as deterrent to others.

My blood boils when I see publications like this. WHY DO OUR LEADERS ALWAYS HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL PROBLEMS TURN INTO CRISES BEFORE ACTING? Where were those Civil Servants Ghana pays good salaries(and sometimes even double salaries) to prevent this from happening and WHY ARE THEY STILL EMPLOYED? I can hear the restrained frustrations and anger in the Ministers voice and I share in his anger. Why do Ghanaians behave this way? Go and check and you will find that the owners of the structures"legally" bought and registered those lands and acquired" legal permits" before building the structures and yet not a single person will be held accountable for it. Only the owners of the structures are left with any type of loss. Is this even sane?
