Dogs like that would probably bring babies up better than some parents do nowadays. Beautiful breed and nice vid.

I have 1 of these amazing dogs now, but one before him gave me my favorite memory i could ever ask for with my kids, saturday morning cartoons, id walk Xander early by time we got back my 2 young girls would be waking up, then breakfast then time for cartoons, Xander was lying down in front of me & my girls ran in and for whatever reason laid in front of him & put their head on his belly, i thought for sure he'd move, not an inch until cartoons were over & my girls got off of him, after that every saturday for years the 3 of them did this, truly my favorite memory of them.

Charlie is around 2 years old in the video. He's now 4 and still hops the same...even higher at times in the morning. The breed is playful and is young at heart. The two of them think they are truly brothers now and still play in the same way.

Fantastic. Really interesting how Charlie never knocked the baby and only mouthed him very gently. Fabulous breed good owner

Charlie is on the smaller side of the breed, weighing in at 130. He is in good shape, has a waist, and gets fed only his food...no scraps. That being said, he's strong as an ox. Most important, he's a friendly, nice dog.

Wow! What a Wonderful video of the true nature of these Beautiful dogs & their ability to understand what's needed of them in family situations. So many people are afraid of having large dogs around children & babies (heck-even around adults for that matter). Yet this shows so beautifully how a happy, well trained (ie:manners,obedience,etc..) member of the family can be not just 'ok' but a truly Great Asset in the lives of His Whole Family/Pack. We can clearly see BOTH baby & dog are thoroughly enjoying this play : ) & including,by extension, also the adult member(dad?) of this family. I don't know, but it seems Charlie is still a young dog & full of joyful enthusiasm, yet he clearly understands how to keep just the right amount of space between himself & the little human to keep him engaged in the play & not knocked over. And, when his enthusiasm is at the edge of becoming 'too much' for the little guy, Charlie's adult human/pack leader, is in tune w/him(& Paying Attention!) enough to sense that & 'pull him back' w/just a few gentle & firm words. I've had the immense joy of having shared my life & family w/a Bernese Mountain Dog(Close! relative of Swissie's) & altho he left us >15yrs ago, he brought SO much to our lives in his all too short 10yrs, I still miss him daily. Life circumstances being what they are, I haven't been able to get another "Big Guy" again, but "Universe willing" I'll be able to again-Hopefully 'soon' : ) Altho I am partial to the Bernie's amazing looks w/their beautiful coats, I am concerned I may no longer be able to properly care for that wonderful coat, so I'm watching all the Swissie videos I can to see how close they really are in temperament to the Bernies. So far I'm finding very similar traits, so am considering the possibility of a Swissie this time. Charlie & ur video have shown me one of the BEST examples of how my 'Murphy' was in my family. THANK YOU so much for showing the world the WONDERFUL Spirit of these Truely Amazing Companions! Brightest Blessings to ur whole family, Karen

We have two swissies also. BEST DOGS EVER! Very gently, a little mouthy like stated previously, but a little training is all it takes, our Ulrich is 2.5 years now and he will still put his mouth on you to get your attention but all you ever feel are lips lol, never teeth. The thing with kids is you also have to train them how to behave around large dogs, Ulrich is 140# and strong as an ox, our 2nd one is onlhy 3 months old so still learning. Love them both!

That's just adorable. My dog is a Great Pyranese Bull Mastiff mix, so he hasn't jumped around like that since he was two. Now he just lays there and lets the baby crawl all over him. He loves it though.

Charlie is now 2 and has been great with kids...three of our own and the neighborhood kids. He is extremely active in the morning hours and then chills out from noon on, unless he hasn't been walked. He is really shy around other dogs unless they are less than 10lbs. He loves playing with the small dogs. Although they are known to be protective dogs, he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. As you probably saw in the other videos, he pulls kids on sleds and wagons as well. A fun breed!

Charlie is approaching 4 now and gets gentler by the year. Our son tests him to no end and Charlie usually gets the raw end of the deal, but they're buddies. Charlie recently busted through our screen door because he was afraid of a workers nail gun. He was found sitting in the street by a neighbor. Despite his size, neighbors know him from hangin at the bus stop and bring him home if he gets out...only happened a few times. As long as they are trained well, I couldn't imagine a better dog.

Aawww both Charlie and Grant are so cute! ❤ I love Charlie's excitement and energy yet he is still so gentle with his younger brother. I pray Charlie is still with your family now. I wish I could have a Greater Swiss Mountain dog here! Unfortunately, there are no breeders that breed them here ☹

I figure he's a pretty young dog in this video. I doubt he'd be hopping around like that with a young baby if he were fully mature. Both seem like such sweet hearts!

@bigBrude41 The breed is known to be very friendly, but protective of family. Charlie will let out one large bark if he is concerned about something or if he hears something outside, but I don't think he'd protect. He wants to play with whoever comes to the front door.

@bigBrude41 Charlie went to puppy training school to learn how to walk on a leash. That part is a little tough because they are bred to pull and act as work dogs. He walks to my left at my side and I use a nightingale collar (only constricts to the width of the neck, doesn't choke). If he proceeds ahead, I stop in my tracks and give him a heel command. He walks backward until even with me. At that time we proceed.

@bigBrude41 The don't believe the breed is known to jump on people. He will not jump on visitors...only me if we're playing. They are known to be very mouthy dogs, meaning they place their mouth over your hands. They don't apply much pressure, just gum you. They are known to be gentle with kids, but can be rough if not exercised.

Someone is usually home during the day at our house, but we've left him alone for 5-7 hours on many occasions when the family is out on weekend days. No destruction and he can hold it in as well. I wouldn't recommend it on a regular basis, as they are a breed that wants to be around people...as do most dogs I guess. I would ask a breeder that question if you are considering one.
