I didn’t see you toping off of that first or second tree. How short would you go and what else do you consider when pruning the length of the leader? Thank you I think this one video answered all my questions and calmed my nerves. I only have two and they are in pots because I may move. I do have Cherimoya plants I grew from seeds and I assume pruning would be the same?

So i was perusing other fruit tree pruning videos and alot seem to talk about fungus and other bads happening to the trees if not given enough time to heal before dormancy. Do you feel that could be true for pawpaws aswell?

What time of year do you prune paw paws; what is the window? I'm guessing it's May, looking at the date stamp which says six months ago and it's now November. I used to think that fruit trees could only be pruned in winter, but I've read more and more how they can be pruned up until the summer solstice. I've read that winter pruning spurs growth in the spring and that spring/summer pruning controls growth. Would you agree? It's much easier to prune without all of the leaves, but the temperature is much nicer in spring! Is the paw paw like other fruit trees where you can safely prune 1/3 of the tree? Thank you for these videos; they are very helpful.

I hope he sees this question.

You prune in the dead of winter - usually January or February. I've done it as late as the end of March, but its best in Jan/Feb.

I hit return too soon. Here are the other answers. I only prune plants in the winter unless they are grapes (I winter and summer prune them) or if there is damage due to a storm or something. With damage I prune immediately. I never prune more than 25% at a time. It takes a long time for them to fruit in quantity and I don't want to risk being too aggressive. You are welcome for the videos :) I actually have an entire playlist on pawpaws if you are interested.

7:37 can you explain why being close to the ground was a problem there? To my untrained eyes, that looked like a really nice main branch and was not too close to the ground.

That’s not a pawpaw tree!

It is the North American type of pawpaw - Asimina triloba.

These aren't paw paw trees
@greatescapefarms5 ай бұрын
Oh, but they are - in the United States and Canada at least. The term paw paw is used differently thorough out the world. In the US and Canada, our largest native fruit has a scientific name of Asimina triloba with a common name of paw paw. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asimina_triloba In other parts of the world they papaya is referred to as the pawpaw. Here is one article using the term that way. www.abetterchoice.com.au/seasonal-produce/paw-paw-papaya/
