Yup he's a blessing for my fruit trees and teaching me some thing that my Public School's should've taught me in school. I feel a deep apathy for our children that are enrolled in our Public schools these days. Now it's on what choice of gender you decide you want to be. Without adults consent of course. And to talorate the deferences with cross dressers in there public schools collecting their lunch money. The Rogue learning system has went back into the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.

I think this is the most useful video you’ve ever done, at least for those with fruit trees. I have some newer trees and some older ones. I have a horticulturist friend who has come to help me prune a couple of times. I still feel like I don’t do a great job, but I hope I’m getting better. I spent quite a few years over-pruning my trees. A couple things he showed me, one had to do with training a branch to take over for another(not that I got that real well) and also something about the windward side of the tree needing to be pruned differently. Do you know anything about these parts of the pruning subject? I would love for you to do a series of videos on each type of fruit tree, maybe visit other(maybe neglected?) orchards where there are much older trees so we could get a better idea of how to prune older and neglected trees. Thanks so much, this was very helpful information!

My local horticulturalist taught me that there is a slight "knucke" at the beginning of every new branch called a cambuim layer. The layer is loaded with cells that are responsible for successful healing of the cut. I like how you used the anvil side of your pruners to avoid getting too close. Nice Felcos btw. I love my #2s so much i feel naked without them
@cynthiafisher9907
@cynthiafisher9907 Жыл бұрын
It’s called the collar. The cambium layer is just inside the bark, that carries the food to the branches.

@@cynthiafisher9907 I stand corrected thank you
@pavolhomola77
@pavolhomola77 Жыл бұрын
Beware - actually this practice with the pruners being used the way you describe, is wrong, you should always cut with the anvil heading away from the wood, that you want to preserve. The reason is, that there is always some compression at the anvil side of the pruners, which damages the wood (the collar in this case). You don´t want to damage this, as this hampers the healing of the collar. The thickness of the cutting blade is normally fully sufficient to lead you to the collar line. Moreover, especially with a heading cut, you want to cut beyond the collar, almost flat with the growth direction. This is actually the reason, why the bypass pruners are a better option for fruit tree cutting. Last but not least, you want to cut with the blade heading away from the tree trunk, in the growth direction of the branch, you cut, as this prevents damaging the bark.

Hey James! The reason I found permaculture was as a result of two things: 1. The Pandemic and 2. Your Channel. The more time I spend reading about and practicing permaculture, the more I am convinced that I am meant to do this. Why? Because of one thing you said in the video..."we can take a glimpse into the future". In my day job, I get paid for doing just that, so why not extend those skills and experience into the garden, community and environment. This video filled another gap in my understanding and for that I am very grateful to you and the boss Tuck! I am excited to order some merch for our upcoming sub-tropical winter Down Under! Lee Reich's Pruning Book is a great book for referencing. A few things he mentioned that were different than yours was that pruning should be done in late Winter so the cuts will heal as soon as growth begins in the spring so the wounds won't dry out. Also something I learned the hard way is that some varieties of certain fruits are tip bearing (apples and pears) and if you prune the ends of the branches you could be pruning off next years fruit. Great summary of work though and you covered quite a bit. Thanks for sharing!
