While in the Air Force, I was fortunate enough to travel to India and see the Taj Mahal. Surprisingly visiting the Red Fort was just as impressive. It was the Mogul's Empire seat of power in the city of Agra and was amazing. It wasn't as meticulously maintained as the Taj Mahal, but had way more history in the walls!

And imagine, this is the stuff of India that is famous because it was built by outsiders but India has been a very ancient empire and our true beauties were built way before and were way more impressive. Also, the Red Fort, the more famous one at least is in Delhi, today the red fort in Agra is just called as the Agra fort. The best forts in India would actually be either the Maratha forts or the Rajput forts, the Chittorgarh fort and Kumbalgarh forts are especially remarkable.

I totally agree with Indian Agenda. Western still believe that Mughals Made the India. They still need to learn how a small rebel groups from mountains, brought down 400 years of Mughals Reign. Maratha Empire at some point of time owned 900 forts across India.

@@polarisdefacto9208 Forget westerners, even many Indians believe that Mughals were the main power until the arrival of the British but the truth is that all the Mughals controlled after the mid-1700s was the interior of the Red fort which was only symbolic while it was the Marathas that controlled most of central and north India. The marathas even practically controlled Delhi though it was kept as Mughal region symbolically.

Rajaraja Chola conquered peninsular South India annexed parts of Sri lanka and occupied the islands of the Maldives. Great review, awesome maps. And I couldn't agree more on your top 3 picks, and how close they are on the list. One thing worth mentioning about Timurides is that they are not considered descendants of Borjigin. It was due to this fact, that Tamerlane could not be called a "khan" but only an "emir". He took a wife from the Ghengisides and was named Temur hurgen, which meant son-in-law (to Ghengisides). Temur was one of the most powerful men in mankind history, some say even matched to the most successful of the Ghengisid khans, but he was never entitled to be a "khan". Thats how strong the Ghengis's will was, even after he was long gone.

Fascinating. One thing I noticed is that Taiwan really was independent of the mainland in all these charts... other than being under the Japanese Empire for several decades of course. I really appreciated learning about Thailand. Explains a lot why it's so unique culturally compared to its neighbours. There was no strong Sino-influence there.
@Lihua666
@Lihua666 Жыл бұрын
As a Chinese, I can tell you that records about Taiwan first appeared in the 2nd century AD, but because the mainland was not fully developed, they ignored this place until the Ming Dynasty in the 14th century AD officially appointed officials to develop Taiwan, after which the Qing Dynasty took over. Taiwan was ceded to Japan in 1894 as a result of the Qing Dynasty's defeat at the hands of Japan, and was later taken back by Nationalist China (Republic of China) after World War II. Between 1947 and 1949, the Kuomintang was defeated by the Chinese Civil War and retreated to Taiwan, while the victorious Communist Party of China established the People's Republic of China. In the constitutions of both the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China, Taiwan is only a part of China and has never been mentioned as a separate country. 😅

Taiwan only started to have Chinese show up after the Spanish and Dutch colonized parts of it and brought in Chinese laborers. The native people of Taiwan are Austronesians who fought both the Europeans and the Chinese. There was no recorded country there because Chinese record-keepers did not know much about the island and the native Austronesians were not united and existed in multiple different tribes. Chinese in Taiwan are settlers like Europeans in America

Reading through all the comments, I think some few of the viewers misinterpreted this video as all-in-one-go sums up of every, single greatest ruling dynasties that ruled over the Asian continent, and were ultimately disappointed that their preferred dynasty did not make it onto the list. Remember, the list is clearly subjective, and made for edutainment purposes; not an academically-accurate selection by historians. With peak territorial size, ruling timespan, as well as influence on surrounding areas or, on a larger scale, multi-continental areas taken into accounts. Also the fact that, the Asian continent is such large area that it's basically impossible to include every one of them, in a 17 minutes video without it being a 1-2 hours length video. Not to even mention, the countless hour that would be spent on such large undertaking video project.

I recommend to mention sue and tang dynasty of china and korea's goguryeo. I consider these as one of the most powerful kingdoms in asia that existed, because these country had massive war between the nations. The sue china had invaded goguryeo with over million men, not even once. They have repeated several times and this continues up to tang dyansty. But the fun thing is the goguryeo, a country that was over northern korean peninsula and machuria, managed to defeat them most of the time. This was really a incredible act, as no nation really had power to enlist THAT amount of army until WW1, not even mongolians did like that. and the invasion of sue dynasty on goguryeo was still a failure. The war between sue and goguryeo was recorded as a biggest war in world history until WW1, and this shows how strong these two nation (sue/tang and goguryeo) was.

the hangeul script created by king sejong is really interesting because it is one of the most recently-created writing systems (developed in the 15th century) and it was specifically developed to be easy to learn. prior to the invention of hangeul, most people could not read/write because the korean language was written with hanja/chinese characters and only wealthy people could afford the education needed to learn it. so king sejong made an easy script (hangeul has an alphabet with consonants and vowels rather than logograms) to increase the literacy of the common people. in more recent years, some cultures with unwritten languages tried to adopt hangeul for their languages, as well, although i don't think any of those projects were successful. anyway, all of this is to say the joseon dynasty and sejong specifically were really important!

I remember that you once did a video on what if George Washington had become King of America, so here's a suggestion, what if the other candidate for King, Prince Henry of Prussia, younger brother of Fredrick the Great, became King? He also died childless, so im curious.

If the house of Yamato ruled from 509 AD up until today, shouldn't the total reigning time be 1511+ years now instead of 1481+? I mean, it's still "more than 1481" so in a way it's not wrong but still weird and you'd expect the '+' to signify that it's still not over yet and could go on for even longer.

It seems that 1481 is the number of years up to the end of Hirohito's reign as he died in 1989 without abdicating. A strange decision to do that but at least it makes sense if he didn't calculate it and simply took the number that was on an outdated source that didn't include Akihito's rule.

Yi/Rhee/Lee is also 李(Li in romanized Chinese via Mandarin/Lee in romanized Chinese via Cantonese) in Hanja, or Chinese characters used in Korea. In [Korean] Hang(e)ul, Yi is 이 whereas Lee/Rhee is 리.

Hum romanization and hangeul have no link regarding that Best counter example is Rhee Syngman/이승만 English romanization as a whole isn't consistent and can't really indicate anything The 이/리 issue comes from a language shift only present in Korean spoken in south Korea (all the ㄹ and some ㄴ in Hanja reading have shifted to ㅇ or ㄴ when in initial position) 李 is 이 in south Korean while it's 리 anywhere else (north korea, yanbian area in China, Zainichi in Japan,...) Same shift that : 래일 - > 내일 녀자 - > 여자 리용 - > 이용 ...

Syailendra dinasty rules most part of Southeast Asia since 8 century till 15 century at the era of Emperor Hayam Wuruk of Majapahit in East Java. Their greatest building is Borobudur Budish temple and Prambanan Hindu temple in Central Java. Even King Jayawarman the founder of Angkor of Khmer is one of their ancestry.
