Mahabharat and Ramayan are History books written in the form of Epic. But its actual history happens 7000 years ago. The excavation and research in the Indus Valley Civilisation matches the events happened in Mahabharat. Excavation tells that the soil of Indus Valley has exposure to radiation and mahabharat also mentions nuclear weapons. Mahabharat mentions - all women had miscarriages after that weapon was used ( just like a nuclear radiation) The war was so deadly that humanity lost ancient knowledge and tech.

Actually Haryana got its name from Mahabharata ( Hari ka aagman/abode of God). Gurugram is the place where Guru Dronacharya had taught Kauravas and Pandavas. Panipat,Sonipat were one of the five villages demanded by Pandavas. Jind is the place where Pandavas had lived their "vanvas"(exile) And Kaithal was established by Yudhisthira. Mahabharata is not all about war, it is also about what one should do and what one should not do. Each character is an example of that. (There are 100s of characters in epic, so I am going to cover some only. If you want to take a look, then check it on eng Wikipedia.) Shantanu was a very good ruler, who believed in pure love and didn't care about caste: He didn't know about his first wife when they married. He even didn't care that Satyavati was a fisherwoman. The one flaw about him was his impatience which broke his married life with Ganga. Satyavati, the fisherwoman, is also referred to as the matriarch of the Mahabharata war. Her role in the epic was little but significant. Her blind ambitions and insecurity, which she thought was good, were some factors of the downfall of the dynasty. The story of Satyavati states that we should think twice before doing something. Bhishma was very strong and capable, but his too much selflessness made him weak. If he had stopped the events which led to rivalry, the war could have been avoided. His steady oath is criticized. The Mahabharata states that we should change ourselves as per necessity. Dhritarashtra was physically strong but mentally weak, who was easily manipulated by his brother in law, Shakuni. He knew that his sons were wrong, but didn't stop them because of his fatherly love. He was also very insecure. Gandhari is known for her devotion towards her husband. Her major flaw was not to stop her sons from doing evil. Her story suggests that parents should develop their child's character from their children or it would be too late. Pandu died because of his carelessness. He knew the consequences of his act but could not resist his lust and tried to make love with Madri, who also died with him. Incident is mainly about self-control and not being tempted by temporary things (lust for Pandu), which may give pleasure for a while but cause problems in future Kunti is one of the three female protagonists in the epic (the remaining are Draupadi and Gandhari). She is known for her motherly affection but her secret past (Karna's birth) ruined her happiness. Kunti had the power to be blessed with a son whenever she wanted. Out of curiosity, she used her powers and asked Surya for a son. When Surya gifted her a child, she realised what she had done and had to abandon the kid. Although she saved herself from society but was not able to save herself from the sorrow of her act. The story Kunti tells us to make our decisions with wisdom, not curiosity. Her story also tells that we can't save ourselves from the guilt of our sins. Karna is the heroic villain of the Mahabharata. He was very generous, skilled and wanted respect. He knew what was right and what was wrong, still preferred to support the wrong side. Karna was born when an adolescent Kunti was blessed with a son from Surya, the sun. Kunti abandoned him with a heavy heart as she feared the backlash from society. He was adopted by Bhishma's charioteer. Later he befriended Duryodhana and was gifted a kingdom from him. Karna, to keep his friendship, did a lot of bad things. The story of Karna suggests that we should stay away from evil friends, even if they have helped a lot. Draupadi, the tragic heroine, was badly treated by Duryodhana and many others. Her marriage with 5 Pandavas was the result of her greed and impatience in her previous birth. When God asked her what she wanted in her next birth, she asked a husband five times in haste. She wanted her husband to be righteous (Yudhishthira), strongest (Bhima), skilled in every field (Arjuna), the most handsome (Nakula) and the wisest (Sahadeva). God then replied that it is impossible to get all qualities in one single man before granting her the boon. After the war, no one was happy, as everybody lost their loved ones. Draupadi lost all her relatives except for her husbands. Yudhishthira, the emperor, suffered a lot because of his gambling addiction. Because of him, his brothers had to face a lot of situations. His story suggests that our bad habits not only cause harm to us but also our loved ones. Shakuni, the plotter in the epic, wanted revenge on Hastinapura. The reason was his sister's wedding with a blind man, which he taught to be the humiliation of his family. His revenge ruined his life too. Duryodhana, the antagonist filled with greed and pride, never liked his cousins and even tried to kill them on many occasions. His ego was the reason for his downfall. But he is appreciated for his fair and equal treatment with everybody. Pls hit a like if you like this.

Philosophical side of Mahabharat is that Five Pandav are your five senses. Karna is your Ego. Kauravas are your 100 of Vices and desires. Bhisma is your blind intelligence. Krishna is soul consciousness that guides your senses. So Mahabharat is a war within you to become a better person. Bhagvad Geeta provides the important philosophical advice innuciated by Krishna or soul consciousness. Shiva is the ultimate cosmic consciousness which one reach after Moksha. I hope you will pin it.

I started reading an abridged version of the Mahabharata. It is very impressive. Almost every passage has an "aha" moment which makes you stop and think. It also generates a great deal of inner conflict has it is hard to know what is "good" and what is "evil", as events evolve, everything becomes intermeshed and you realize it is impossible to judge anything in such a simple way. All you know at the end is - "The workings of Karma and Dharma is profound and subtle." and weather you chose the "action of the men" or "action of the gods" i.e. inaction and surrender results to the higher powers, you cannot ultimately have any regrets, because it is all too complex of a web for any moral to have known what to do anyways.

Great video, let me add some information : 1. Karna is the eldest of pandavas, but sided with kuravas. 2. Kuruksethra (Kuru Setra) could translate into the field of Kuru, with Kuru (could) refer to Kuravas. And don't expect small field, it is huge if not humongous. 3. The "contestant" of Mahabarata War not only from 2 faction (Kuravas or Pandavas) but also from kingdom who sided/affiliate with them. 4. There are several TV series from India tell the story about Mahabarata, the best depiction is from 70 or 80, as they try to strictly follow the story. 5. The characther involved in the war, the could be reincarnated from previous live, demigod, receive blessed from gods in the form of weaponry.

Are you indian / hindu And if you are not I have some advice for you brother.. 1. Do not add 'a' at the last of noun. Its not pronounced, its half pronounced, english dont have letter for that sound. Most of places 'a' is half pronounced. 2. Sanskrit has wide vocabulary but translators didn't understood exact meaning, and don't have any word in english. Example - Demi God. As far I know demi gods means Half God, and We do not have any concept of Half God. We have Different terms relating to Gods, Divine beings and Higher Beings like Param ishwar Ishwar Param atma Atma Dev ( male) Devi ( female) Bhagwan Etc. All these sanskrit words has different meanings And english has only God. I hope you understood, brother.

The author (Vyasa) managed to create/compose such an epic backstory about a battle between 2 houses outside a city. Imagine if he narrated a backstory about the "Battle of the Nations" or the entire Napoleonic Wars. Napoleon Bonaparte would probably portrayed as the avatar of Jesus and his brothers (or marshals) were the angels. Or perhaps since he ultimately lose the war, he was the anti-Christ, and the protagonists were the Russians, the Prussians, and the Austrians.
@LordGrim5474 жыл бұрын
@@ihl0700677525 It was not a battle of only two houses. In this war, almost every major house of India participated. The epic also mentions about kings of other countries like'Chin' (Tibet) and 'Maha Chin' (China), 'Parsik' (Persia) sending their armies.
@kshatrapavan4 жыл бұрын
@@vedantartstudio1094 Wrong. The 'a' or अकार at the end of words is skipped only in the modern languages of Northern India. In Sanskrit however, the final 'a' is pronounced. So while the word देव may be pronounced as 'dev' in Hindi, it is pronouced as 'deva' in Sanskrit, always, no exceptions. Therefore, when writing Sanskrit words in the Roman script the final 'a' should be written. A way to distinguish between अकार and आकार is to use 'ā' for the later.

@@TheZainshah0007 no one at that time is going to write a fiction this big. Nobody is going to pay them royalty for number of books sold! Also Hinduism even now is not an institutionalised religion like Islam or Christianity. There is no purpose for sustaining belief with stories, they don't even care about number of followers or religious expansion or using it as a political tool to raise army , its more about core ideologies and values Also it was initially transferred from generation to generation in oral form . Bible and quran were also in oral form at the beginning. But this is very very huge as compared to those ( even Big vedas) . Bigger and more complex, names, war strategies, family trees, politics , syncing with Krishna's life and bhagavat, its too much effort actually Am pretty sure no one will bother to take all these effort generation after generation, to sustain and help survive a fiction. Its more about dharma and complexities of finding what is good and what is bad in relation to our dharma ( as humans evolved, and its third yuga) , as compared to pretty straightforward stuffs with less complexities in previous yuga, ie time of Ramayana. Also magical elements and divine intervention is very less. If it was not real they could have made it a lot more fancier. Hindus are highly creative people, that's one of the reason turning water into wine or walking on water kind of stuff didn't really create any interest among them, even after 200 years of British attempts Also Places and all mentioned in it are also pretty accurate

@anubratabit30273 жыл бұрын
@Earth Hub Hinduism doesn't have a concept of a single figure like Devil/Satan responsible for all the evil in the world. Hindu doctrine states that evil is influenced by 6 vices - Lust, Anger, Greed, Delusion, Arrogance & Jealousy. Nobody except the Supreme One(who can be visualised as the deities Vishnu, Shiva, Durga & Ganesha) are free from these vices, not even the deities like Indra(King of the Heavenly Realm & Devas other those mentioned above). Asuras obtain the power to subdue the Devas(responsible for the welfare of the world) by propitiating the Supreme One through severe austerities & when they misuse their powers, the Supreme One assumes form to subdue them. This cyclic phenomenon of Devas & Asuras wining & losing alternately is governed by the rules of Karma i.e the Devas & Asuras are defeated due to their bad karma performed under influence of the 6 vices & are victorious by propitiating the Supreme One through subduing those vices. And sometimes the Asuras obtain immunity from death at the hands of non-animals, so God outfoxes them by assuming the form of animals. For the example the Asura Hiranyakshashipu was immune to death from the hands of men, women & animals so Bhagavan Vishnu kills him assuming the form of Narasimha, a lion-human hybrid.

There was a king named Shantanu, who ruled the kingdom of Hastinapur in ancient India. He married Ganga and they had a son, Devvrata. Ganga was actually a Goddess doing penance.She left as soon as Devvrata was born. Devvrata was a prodigious child, showing great skills in archery. Devvrata was announced the heir of the throne. Shantanu gets attracted to another lady named Satyavati and proposes her. She accepts, but her father puts a condition that he would allow only if her yet to born son would be the heir of the throne. Shantanu drops the idea. Devvrata renounces his claim to the throne and also takes oath to live a life of celibacy and protect the throne till he is alive. His sacrifice was so great that people started calling him Bhishma. Shantanu and Satyavati have two sons. First son dies of illness and second son “ Vichitryavirya” becomes the king. Bhishma wins three princess for king Vichitryavirya viz Amba, Ambika, Ambalika. Ambika and Ambalika accepts the king, but Amba loved Shalva. She blames Bhishma for her misfortune and vows to kill Bhishma. Vichitryavirya dies without a child. Satyavati calls Vyasa to impregnate the Queens. (Vyasa is Satyavati’s Son before marriage). Ambika gives birth to Dhritarashtra and Ambalika to Pandu. Dhritarashtra though being the elder son is not made the king as he is Blind. Pandu is made the king. (This is where the seed for the war was sowed). Dhritarashtra forever remains insecure of his blindness. Dhritarashtra marries Gandhari and they have 101 kids. 1 daughter and 100 sons, eldest among them is Duryodhan. Pandu marries Kunti and Madri. Kunti has 3 sons viz Yudhisthir, Bhima, Arjuna. Madri has 2 sons Nakula and Sahadeva. Though Dhitarashtra gets married first , Pandu gets the first child, Yudhisthir . Kunti also has one son outside the marriage named Karna. whom she abandons. Karna is raised by a person who works as a charioteer for the king. Pandu dies. Dhritarashtra is made the king. Now, his sole aim is to see that his son Duryodhan becomes the king. Yudhisthir grows into a man of wisdom while Duryodhan fails to impress Bhishma and other courtiers. Yudhisthir also being elder to Duryodhan turns out to be the obvious choice for the heir. Dhritarashtra reluctantly announces Yudhisthir as the heir. Duryodhan has a cunning uncle Shakuni who plans to kill Yudhisthir and his brothers in a wax house. They are saved by timely intervention of Vidhur, their minister and uncle. Everyone thinks Pandavas are dead , hence Duryodhan is announced as the heir of the throne. In the meantime, Arjuna wins Draupadi in an archery contest. But, Draupadi was finally married to all 5 brothers. The 5 brothers(Pandavas) return Hastinapur with draupadi. Bhishma suggests division of the kingdom to keep both parties happy. Pandavas receive the western part of the Kingdom(Indraprastha) and Duryodhan gets Hastinapur. Avaricious Duryodhan unhappy with his half decides to annex Indraprastha by hook or crook. His uncle Shakuni, a great gambler, invites the Pandu brothers for a gambling contest. Yudhisthir loses everything including himself , his wife and his brothers. Duryodhan orders his brother Dushassana to disrobe Draupadi in front of the court. Bhima vows to slay Duryodhan for the insult. Pandavas are sent to 13 years of exile as per the pre-decided rules of gambling. After 13 years Pandavas ask for their Kingdom, Duryodhan refuses and thus war starts. Arjuna asks his friend and cousin Krishna to be his Charioteer and Guide. Duryodhan has his friend Karna, one of the finest archers, apart from Bhishma and Dronacharya on his side. War starts. Arjuna realizes that he has to kill his Grandsire Bhishma and beloved teacher Dronacharya to win the war. He gets overwhelmed and drops his weapon. Krishna then persuades him to fight the war as the war is against injustice, not against Bhishma or Dronacharya. After a long stalemate, Arjuna attacks Bhishma and injures him out of the war. Dronacharya is then made the chief commander of Kaurava forces. Arjuna’s son Abhimanyu is killed by deceit, flouting the rules of the war. Arjuna pledges to slay Jaydrath, who was responsible for the death. Dronacharya is killed by Pandavas, by deceit. Karna is then made the commander in chief. Dusshasan is killed by Bhima .After a fierce battle, Karna is killed by Arjuna when Karna is defenseless. Shalya is made the commander in chief. Shakuni is killed by Nakula and Shalya is killed by Yudhishtir Duryodhan being exhausted leaves the battle and rests near a pond. He is intercepted by Pandavas and Krishna. Bhima and Duryodhan agree to a mace duel. Duryodhan being agile and and technically superior gets the upper hand, but ultimately is slain by Bhima by an illegitimate move in mace fighting. Duryodhan dies. Pandavas return to Hastinapur. Dhitrasthra forgives evryone but Bhima, who alone killed all his sons. Yuhisthir is announced as the king. Pandavas meet Bhishma on his deathbeds

Awesome content. As a bengali growing up in the 90s, everyone in my city of Calcutta had their grandparents tell them bedtime stories of the Mahabharata. The culture was so deep rooted back then, that even in go as you like and fancy dress competitions, you could see children dressed up as characters from the great Hindu epics. If there was a drawing competition, children would draw scenes of the battle of kurukshetra. In fact both me and my twin brother are named from the Mahabharata mythology.

Thanks for doing the Mahabharata! It’s a great story, with a few weird aspects (but to be honest all stories, ancient and modern, have them), and has a very large family dynamic. I know that you have already made the chart and everything, but I was wondering if you might like to know these few extra, maybe less talked about parts of the family tree that you didn’t cover: 1. Krishna had an older brother called Balarama who is important as he was Duryodhana’s teacher, and is sometimes depicted as a limiting factor to Krishna helping the Pandavas (although Krishna is an avatara so...) 2. Draupadi is really important as, besides being the wife of all the Pandavas (which happened for a kind of sensible but weird reason), she had a child with each who were killed after the war. Some iterations have the killer mistake them, the Upandavas, for the sleeping Pandavas. 3. The Kauravas had a sister, whom I have forgotten the name of but the completionist in me felt I should mention it. 4. Bheema and Arjuna were the only Pandavas to have children with women besides Draupadi. Bheema had a notable son called Gatokach, with a demoness called Hidimbi, who fought in the war (his death is a notable one - when struck down by Karna, he had grown so large that he squashed an entire enemy division beneath him). 5. The last point is just that a lot of the people you mentioned - Karna, Duryodhana and some other Kauravas - had sons who died in the war. Even Dhritarashtra had a son by another woman, who was the Kaurava to survive (but all of Gandhari’s sons perished). It’s a minor point but important as Arjuna was distinctly upset at the start of the war because on both sides he saw so many family relations, and he could only foresee the loss of his family from the world. It’s a major point in Bhagavad Gita so thought I’d mention it. Honestly wouldn’t have expected anyone who hasn’t read the Mahabharata repeatedly and seen some of the iterations to know these things, but you have struck me as someone who isn’t shy of knowing a few extra details that could have a place in your brilliant charts. Thanks for treating the material well and the same as any other piece of epic literature. Would love to see one for the Ramayana 👍🏾👍🏾 (which is a fair bit simpler lol).

Why are you adding A at last of All sanskrit words Like Rishia Or kumara Its incorrect, please correct it
@RishiKumar-ie6ns4 жыл бұрын
Vedant Art Studio You have a good point. But it’s just that a lot of scholars nowadays, even those who produce some of the best translations of these texts, all seem to write it that way. Although, I haven’t ever seen a Rishia before, they tend to get the names ending in -i correct. In any case, the reasoning is less about what gives you an indication as to how a Sanskrit name is said today (I.e. Arjun instead of Arjuna etc.), but more about what is commonly accepted. This is in an effort to reduce confusion. If you find it a bit frustrating (I did at first) I just like to remember that the -a does serve to give the name a special look to it. Like when I look on a name and see ‘Dhruv’ I think “oh it’s just the name Dhruv like my friend Dhruv”. When I see ‘Dhruva’, although the way I say it doesn’t change, in my head I register that I am referring to its Sanskritic origin as a name for the North Star (which I got from the Bhagavata Purana). Sorry for the ramble.

Just a correction tho. The Trimurti was a Hindu concept but was not something that most Hindus believed in anymore. It was re-emphasised by the Europeans due to their identification of it with the Trinity in Christianity. In reality the 3 most important deities in Hinduism are Vishnu, Shiva and Shakti. All with abilities to create, preserve and destroy.

Gayathri Selvan yes but no one cares about Brahma. The 3 sects of Hinduism are Shaktism, Vaishnavism and Shavism.

Mahabaratham and Ramayanam epics have a lot of interwoven stories around each character. My wife tells these stories to our wide-eyed kids who question a lot learning the hood with the bad/evil. This culture and tradition continues for yugas. Every long living civilization has story telling, which I hope wouldn't stop in this modern age. Your video is a great example. Thank you!

You do know having a 3rd person impregnate the wives of infertile/dead husbands was a real thing in ancient India. It was called Niyoga, where a 3rd person, duly appointed by the infertile couple, was asked to impregnate the wife to beget a child. Plain old sex. No bullshit blessings or stuff. There were some rules to it ofcourse. There'd be no foreplay or contact of any kind with the upper body. There is a curtain between the male and the female so that none can see each other's face so that passion does not sneak into their minds. Only the legs of the female are kept uncovered. The male penetrates and ejaculates inside the woman and the process is completed. To avoid misuse, a man was allowed a maximum of three times in his lifetime to be appointed in such a way. The child thus born would be considered the child of the husband-wife and not that of the appointed man, who would not seek any paternal relationship or attachment to this child in the future. That's what Vyas dev did w the queens. No hocus pocus. You really need to read the texts more lmao.

Hello brother. Thanks a lot for this very useful chart & the way you explained it was awesome & enjoyable! You made it pretty simple. You skipped mentioning Draupadi though, she's there in the chart. She's a very iconic character from the Epic. Also Shri Krishna's family, Radharani, Rukmini, Eklavya, Ghatotkach etc can also be added to make it more elaborate just in case you want it.
