Saeed Anwar was a class batsman no doubt however if you go by records & stats then Sourav Ganguly has more runs, more centuries, more fifties, more wickets and a successful captain. Ganguly scored 10,000/- runs faster than even S. Tendulkar. Additionally, unlike S. Anwar Ganguly also bowled and got many wickets (his best bowling figure of 5/16 was against Pakistan).

Agreed. Saqlain's record also is far better than Kumble in ODIs. Avg of 21 to Kumble's 31. Strike rate of 30 to Kumble's 43...has many more 4 and 5 wicket hauls than Kumble despite playing nearly half of what Kumble has played. Has a better batting avg too lol.

Zaheer abbas... I think yes...but saqlain in odi is better thsn kumble...in case of zaheer abbas...his stats are not stable, because of less matches.... He was never a great away batsman...Abbass outside pakistan& englad , averaged only 32.5 at 64 strike rate...his averagevin Aus,Nz,Ind,Wi,UAE are like 33,34,31,10,37... His runs was all scored either at home or in England...

I am a great admirer and fan of Kapil Dev, both, as a cricketer and human being. But In any fair assessment, Imran Khan would always be chosen over Kapil Dev because he has a superior record, in batting as well as bowling. Please go check the stats. Also, note, it is normal for a cricketer’s performance to decline as he ages. Imran Khan’s record is unique. He just got better and better. In his last 10 years of international cricket, he played 51 Tests. He averaged a sensational 50 with the bat which would place him among the very best batsmen in the world and at the same time he averaged 19 with the ball which would place him among the crème de la crème of fast bowlers who ever played test cricket.

I would keep Afridi instead of Kumble, given that the top 7 already has two proper bowlers, and this would allow an added batting option down the order. Also, with 4 top pacers already in the line-up, there’s no need for Srinath unless the match is being played on a cold damp day in Headingley. So Saqlain for Srinath. The rest of the team, given the constraints, looks reasonable.

Too many fast bowlers. I would go with Saqlain instead of Srinath. 4 fast bowlers, 2 spin bowlers with 1 part time med pacer in Ganguly, 1 part time left arm spinner in Yuvraj and 1 part time everything in Sachin Tendulkar.

With already 4 fast bowlers in the team, I would prefer a additional spinner & following cricket in my teens during the 80’s Abdul Qadeer to me was almost as good or even better than Warne… Reserve players are always important in the over all strategy… 1. Am additional specialist opener in Saeed Anwar in case of injury.. 2. Rahul Dravid - a solid middle order batting replacement in case of injury with additional skills of wicket keeping… 3. Assuming the World Cup is being played in the Sub continent, an additional spinner (in case the pitch demands a off spinner that is) I would have Harbhajan Singh .. it was very difficult not to choose soqlain ..
