My Dad gave me a Sheridan Silver Streak .20 around 1970. It has tiny blue paint dots all over it from when I shot an "empty" blue spray paint can as a kid! Live and learn! I still use it today to get rid of grackles and squirrels in my bird feeder. Still works like a charm. I now buy JSB Exacts, but I have some pellets left in an old Sheridan yellow container!

Nice video. Understand the love of this fine example of a perfect super accurate plinker! I was blessed to visit a shooting sporting goods, friend of a friend, shop owner to check out his store. After the visit finished, while walking towards the door, something stopped me to turn around and ask “do you possibly have any air guns?” “Oh yeah come around to the back room......” the owner said. There was a ten foot long table straight back behind showroom wall filled with all kinds of vintage pieces. He said “grab whatever you like!” Well my friend Tom and I picked up identical air guns from opposite sides of said table. Two exact era examples of the Sheridan Blue Streak. Tom had an old well worn one. And the one that was in my hands was brand new, maybe never fired or only a couple times etc. But it still had the original light film coating of packing grease possibly the way they were preserved for shipping when new. 50 some years old, and gorgeous mint new, practically flawless!! The really amazingly cool owner was like “great find, take it home and enjoy it.” Gratis! No charge. Shazam. “Thanks for coming in.” The rifle was an absolute tack driver @25-30 or more yards. Couldn’t believe how awesome a piece of machinery it was. Absolutely fell in love with the gorgeous rifle and couldn’t stop shooting it almost every day back then in my yard which was a 38 acre nature preserve, 3 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean. Dream world for the air gun. Reckoned it must have been one of the best ever made for a basic marksmanship or light hunting friend. Just pulled it out after a few years. Can’t wait to get back to work with it soon!

I got one for Christmas when I was around 12 y.o., I am 67 now and I have so many awsome memories from shooting mine. It was dead on accurate, and I made so many amazing shots with it that I lost count. But one that is stuck in my memory was the day me and my friend were out shooting sparrows around this water hole. I just couldn't miss that day, but the one that amazed me was a tiny little sparrow in the topmost branch of a dormant willow tree which was a good 40-50 feet tall. I was about 50 yards away (I counted it off after I shot) and I laid down and took the shot (iron sights), and it dropped, dead as a doornail. Today, if I see a sparrow up in a tall tree, I am always amazed that I made the shot, which looked no bigger than a dime in my sights. Yep, I agree with you, it it the greatest pellet rifle ever made.

My Grandfather had one he showed me when I was 14. He said it would not even kill a squirrel, he showed me how he pumped it and he had not opened the pump but half the way, no wonder it was shooting weak. So was like brand new. He passed and I got the firearms and another family member got the pellet gun. I always wondered how it shot as it seemed very solid. Recently got a sheridan blue streak used with a few other guns, bought sight unseen. Seems to function, excited to shoot it but no .20 cal pellets in my basement so will see soon. My unicorn was the Daisy powerline 990 dual power, have one but missing co2 thread in plug. Thanks for the video, may have to reseal mine of take apart and lube...

Hey moose, My 1971 blue streak was getting no compression, before sending it out for a repair job I figured I would try the alcohol flush. This is what I did.: with a half cc syringe, I applied 90% alcohol behind the cup and in front of the cup And let it sit overnight. The next day it was getting some compression. with a half cc syringe I applied dot 3 brake fluidbehind the cup and let it sit upright for a few hours. To my amazement it was getting good compression. After working in shooting just air through it. I took it out and was firing it for the past two days. It is shooting like it’s brand new. It’s holding the air. No leaks. Eight pumps has a lot of power. I am one happy guy now! I’ll update you in a couple of months to let you know if it’s still holding. Thanks ☮️

I have two: one from about 1957, one about 1980, and my son has a Silver Streak 1989. All shoot fine! They have dispatched many a sparrow, starling, feral cat, snake, bullfrog and - believe it or not - bumbelbees/carpenter bees - which are extremely hard to hit while flying. Gotta hit 'em while they momentarily hover. They really sharpen and hone my shooting skills.

I still have the Blue Streak I purchased from Lyman Guns in Bartlesville OK in 1973 or 1974 when I was 14 or 15 years old. Strapped it to my 125 cc Yamaha and took it home. Try doing that today! Shoots like a champ. I started saving the "original" pellets (in those yellow plastic boxes) when the internet came along and I realized that there are other sources of 5mm pellets. I guess there are finer pellet rifles around now, but anything that can shoot an eastern blue jay out of a tree at 50 yards or more commands my respect. Thanks for the presentation, and safe shooting everyone!

Well....I own my first today. Wife and I bought a rental property back in December of 2020. Took a couple years to get the property renovated and rented. While over there helping the tenant get his dryer vent hooked up and such, I found it. Someone had stuffed it up in the floor joists who knows how long ago. It is rough...a bit cautious in pumping it, I do not know the condition of the tube or of the parts. Had Daisy and Crossman growing up....never even knew of these rifles. Thank you for sharing!

I purchased a blue streak in 1968 when I was 14years old. Every now and then I'll take it out and shoot it. I use it open sights because out of all the pellet guns I've every owned this one was the most accurate with the open sights. I remember once a few years ago target shooting with it and shot a 5 shot group and all five pellets stacked one on top of each other in the same hole. I cut open the wood and removed them and they were perfectly locked together in a straight line. There's just something about those sights that work for me and I would not want to spoil it with a scope. Thanks for the video!

We only used the official Sheridan 5mm pellets which I found superior to other pellet designs but back in the day there weren't any other 5mm / .20 pellets where we lived. We also has Benjamin and Crossman but the Blue Streak was always #1.

I have to agree with you on the quality of these guns. I own a 1962 version of this gun, fully functional and looks great for all the years I've owned it. It was a hand me down from my older brother when I was 13 yrs old. Had the inards rebuilt about 20 yrs ago and it still is holding air well. I put a couple of drops in the oiling port and on the piston once a year. Just a fabulous gun to own and so fun to shoot. Keeps your arms healthy too.

I've been a Blue Streak shooter since I was 12 years old, in 1972. My first one (which I still own and shoot regularly today) was purchased used from a friend for the princely sum of $8.00. It turns out is was made in 1963. I thought my dad was going to kill me, but he was actually really excited to see it. "Best air rifle ever made. Good job." These early models had the safety in the middle of the tang, with the "hold down to fire" instruction cast into the tang piece. That was always awkward for me and, apparently, many others. Later models (like yours) changed to the "rocker" safety. I bought one of those brand new in 1978. Still have that one as well. Both have since been modified by Timmy Mac of Mac1 Airguns into what he calls "Steroid" guns, with improved valves and a billet pump arm. Both will now "clear" (expend all of the air) with up to 14 pumps, effectively doubling their power. Oh, and I'm using the JSB Exact pellets as well. Far more accurate in both rifles than the Crossman pellets. A couple of things... First, your rear sight is way too far back. The sight blade itself should be about even with the aft end of the pump arm. There should actually be a plastic hand guard that snaps over the barrel in the location now occupied by your rear sight (most have long since been lost, but I still have both of mine, one brown and one black). This is where your off hand goes when pumping, not on the pistol grip. You will stress the rifle unnecessarily by holding it on the pistol grip while pumping. Second - do not scope this rifle. Others have already commented regarding its most common problem - the barrel separating from the pump tube. This is caused almost entirely by the scope mount used on this rifle. It clamps over the barrel and bears down upon the pump tube, forcing them apart. Third - eight pumps is maximum on a standard Sheridan. Any more can damage the valves. Besides, it won't "clear" - use all of the charge - with any more. Try this - pump it up and shoot it, then without pumping, cock it and dry fire it. There should be no remaining air. If there is, it didn't "clear". Try again with one less pump. At whatever number of pumps it "clears", that is that rifle's maximum. More pumps do not add power above that, they just leave residual air in the chamber. Anyway, nice rifle, and what a good score! I love seeing air gunners getting acquainted with the old Sheridans. Like I said, I grew up with them. The last air guns I would ever part with, and I have plenty of really nice high end springers. I wish someone would bring the "real" Sheridan back. There almost has to be a market for them.

I have a '78 model that I got new for Christmas that year, I was 14. Still have it, and it still has the black plastic hand grip. The front site is in front of that grip, like you said. Mine is the silver streak. Had to re-valve it once about 8 years ago. Very difficult process even with the special tool, but it's worth the effort. Also I still have two full boxes of the original Sheridan cylindrical pellets. They always shot just fine for me, from what I can remember. This gun has lots of power that's for sure! And I never pump it to 8, usually 6 pumps is plenty.

As a kid I always wanted a Blue or Silver Steak. We weren't affluent so I lived with a Crossman 760...I loved it just the same. When I became an adult I re-lived my childhood and bought a Silver Streak....35 years later I still own it, but its about time for a rebuild. Great for shooting in the back yard and squirrels ( in Alabama we eat them). I've got 4 AR's an M1A, a 700SPD, a CZC 457 Precision, and a safe full of a variety of pistols and rifles. My Silver Streak has a special place in my heart, and will go a son and later a grandson.

I own a modern Blue Streak, CB9. I still have the box with Sheridan name, purchased at Cabelas about 20 years ago. I was disappointed with the commonly sold mounting blocks for a scope, I don't think it's a good system. The receiver is drilled and tapped for the Williams Peep and IMO that is the best way to go for this classic rifle. Once I went with the peep sight, no looking back. I had to go in once to do the pump cup, so while I was in there I went for the valve as well and did some work. I trimmed some plastic off the check valve and reassembled. Didn't seem to make much of a difference then questioned myself as to maybe better off returning the valve to it's original state. I ordered a new check valve off Crosman and brought the valve back to it's original configuration. The idea was from a youtube modder saying a smaller check valve (more like to size in an older 760) will get you those few extra pumps of air and some extra fps. Don't waste your time IMO, time and effort spent doing the work not really worth any minor benefits. I am also happy that when I purchased my rifle I decided to get the .20 because there was a .177 and a .22 I think as well. The best thing you can do with any pumper is before you closet the gun is leave one or two pumps of air in the gun. This will keep dust/dirt/debris out of the valve less likely have air leaks, and add years between having to reseal. I can't say enough good things about these classics. Thanks for the video.

My neighbor, back in 1960, had a Blue Streak and I always wanted one. I got a Benjamin .22 instead. Been shooting air guns ever since. Two weeks ago, at a gun show in Vallejo, Ca. I saw a Sheridan Blue Streak for sale. My Unicorn! I paid $175 and the kind gentleman threw in two tins of .20 cal pellets just to sweeten the deal. Shot in my back yard and it's a tack driver! Like you said, it's worth every bit that I paid for it. Mine is in 99% condition. It was made in 1975. I'm 72 now and I can still put 10 pumps into it. However, I can't shoot it all day like in my youth. I've loved Sheridan's ever since I saw one as a kid. Lucky me.

The whole assembly of the Bluestreak is soldered together and therefore you cannot disassemble it for repairs. The Crosman Corp. bought out the Bengy & Sheridan company around 1993 and redesigned it with a different trigger & removeable valve. Sadly they discontinued the Sheridans around 2013 and the prices have climbed since then. If you find one better grab it while you can.

Your gun is the earlier "Hold Down" safety model. It was made to about 1963 then several changes were made. The safety was changed to a "Rocker style" safety and the buttstock comb was lowered to like the one you have. The pump rod was made int a welded non adjustable model, the previous one had threads on both ends and the fore arm was widened.

Sir, thank you for this excellent video of this classic air rifle. My “Blue Streak” is an actual Blue Streak (hence, in my case, you’re “preachin’ to the choir” when you say how awesome these rifles are! =>). Yes, I still have my first air rifle ever, a 1974 Sheridan Blue Streak that my Dad got me for Christmas back then. I tried scoping it, but was never happy with that. My rifle did not come tapped for the peep sight; but for the whopping sum of $12.95 (back in 1975) the factory in Racine WI sent me a Williams peep sight, and my Dad got our machinist neighbor to drill and tap the rifle for it. The peep sight still sits on it to this day, and it is an excellent addition to this fine arm. It is much easier to pump this rifle with the peep sight on it than it was with a scope on it; it also balances better. I did notice that the POI changed in windage with varying the pumps; hence, I always shot it at 6 pumps (my factory manual listed 8 pumps as the maximum back then). This was my squirrel hunting rifle, and it had plenty of power for that at 6 pumps. Here are some velocity figures from my recent testing: with Sheridan pellets (avg 15.5 g), 6 pumps = 570 fps (11.17 fpe); with RSB (13.73 g) 6 pumps = 618 fps (11.63 fpe). At full power with Sheridan pellets, 8 pumps = 645 fps (14.3 fpe); with RSB pellets, 8 pumps = 689 fps (14.46 fpe). Since our UK friends got by with about 11 fpe (in order to stay safely under their 12 fpe limit), I figured 6 pumps would do well, and it did so for many years. I no longer hunt; I'm a plinker at heart; and I still like to plink with this gun. I still use 6 pumps all the time, partly from tradition, to remind me of days gone by, and mostly because it's sighted in very well at 15 yards with RSBs at 6 pumps. Accuracy wise, from a bench, I can always hit the bottom of 7/8" diameter plastic bottles at 15 yards. At 25 yards, I can usually hit them. With my 65-year-old eyes, I am happy with that level of accuracy. I don't shoot this rifle a lot, but I do make a point to shoot it, and to keep in lubricated; it's a family heirloom, and I want it to be in perfect shape when I pass it on to one of my nephews or grandkids; I will give it to the one who loves and respects it the most. Thanks again for the great video that brought up wonderful memories of days gone by. Blessings to you, Dave

I have had my Bluestreak for better than 45 years. It still looks and shoots like it was brand new. My house is on a small lake and when I moved in, we had bad problem with water mocassins. One day I pulled out the Bluestreak and shot 7 water mocassins in 15 mins. It was deadly accurate and 4 pumps was enough to decapitate an adult cottonmouth.

That's the same Sheridan Blue Streak rifle I got back in Jan. 1969, my father bought it for me in late 1968 but I was not at home that time, I got home in January and he gave it to me. It was an excellent air rifle and I was surprised by the power. My first older air rifle which I got new in 1964 was a BSF Junior .177 cal. break barrel type, only 39" long and very accurate, made in Germany if I remember correctly. Then in the year 1970 I got a new Ruger 10/22 standard model rifle, I still shoot my Sheridan in the basement of our house with a bullet trap.

Mine was a Crosman 1400 in 22 caliber. My parents got it for my Christmas present back in 1973. Carried it all over my parent's and grandparents property of about 40 acres. Remember the only pellets I shot in it were the Crosman ashcans, so soft had to handle carefully or the would deform the skirts. Fantastic gun, very accurate. Rebuilt the pump 4 years ago and still shoot great. Great video man. Like your cool way of presenting your thoughts and video.

My first airgun was a Sears Eldorado ( Daisy 880 clone ) . Still have it and still works , replaced the seals and works just as good as i remember . So many bb's through that gun , pellets were harder to load so i used mostly bb's . I do have the Benjamin model 342 and also a Sheridan Silver Streak early 70's model , like you found on ebay . Luckily still very much in working order . The stock is in great shape . Always store with at least 2 pumps to keep it working . Great guns . Its hard to beat the older airguns , they bring back so many memories .

I actually killed a pheasant with it in the first hour after my christmas present was opened on christmas morning. I can't even imagine how many squirrels were shot with this thing. MSRP back in the day was $30 bucks.......LOL These things are sweet. Sure wish I could find a box of original sheridan yellow box pellets for it.

Mine's a 64' era 5mm (.20 cal) similar to yours. Pretty sure max pumps is supposed to be around 8 pumps or so I've been told. I rebuilt my once and your right, even with the tool getting the valve out was a tedious time consuming process of soaking it with PB Blaster for days, maybe over a week before trying it daily it finally broke loose. The rest was not too big a deal. Shoots like a champ again and has been for many years after the rebuild. I was told you need to add a pump when done using it to keep the leather seal in the proper position. So far so good. Mine has Williams Peep Sights installed and that does everything it is intended to do. Quite the pest slayer and will forever be my special "hard smacking" airgun. Enjoyed your video and seeing a younger sibling to my favorite non PCP airgun.

I recently got (free) a '75 C9. Looks very nice. Some Brass showing thru the blueing from use. Got it from a Hermit that lived in his shack up the road. Really, a hermit, no running water, no electricity. I was about the only guy that he'd talk to. When he died, there was a note in a drawer that mentioned that I get his small game rifle and his 'good' sipe for cutting grass. So the C9 holds importance to me. However, the Unicorn, the one dear to me is the first pellet gun that I bought and still own and use as varmint control. My Crosman Model 1. I bought it the week I moved out of my parents home. "no guns in my house" was moms credo.

I just need to add 1 correction to your video. Your gun is the second best pellet gun ever made. The best was the Silver Streak! hahaha. I finally got one for Christmas in 1969. It's killed more cans and bottles than I can remember along with rabbits and squirrels. I've shot thousands and thousands of pellets out of it. I gave it away last Christmas to kick start the next generation of lead throwers. I treasured it for decades and it's grown into a piece of treasure judging by what they are selling Silver Streaks for these days. Did I regret giving it up? Yes and no. I'm happy to make a kid happy but I am going to miss that piece of art looking back at me from time to time. To get over the loss I got me a new pet. I found a very old Benjamin model 317 in non working condition. In a lot of ways I can see how the Sheridan probably was developed out of these older Benjamin air rifles. The stock is slimmer and more delicate than my old Silver Streak and overall the gun is lighter. If it had any finish on the metal it's long since gone and it's all brass and shines like gold. So let's just say I upgraded from a Silver Streak to a Gold Streak!

I've been a Blue Streak shooter since the tender age of 13. My '69 model, bought at a local gun shop, is of the rocker safety type, and can still dispatch chipmunks (my nemesis) at 30 paces. The gun is capable, long as I still am. However, I noticed last year it is beginning to leak ever so slightly, and so will need a rebuild next year. Not bad, only took it 53 years.

Hello Moose, This is a very nice presentation about an iconic American air rifle. I believe that you were misinformed about the age of your Blue Streak, from the position and type of safety that your rifle has. I have a rifle that I purchased from Herter’s in 1966, as a high school graduation present for myself. That rifle has the rocker safety, which was the second safety type, and has never been placed in the safe position. I also have a rifle of the same vintage as yours, with the top thumb safety, which I BELIEVE was discontinued in the early sixties. Whatever vintage your rifle is, it certainly does look like a goodie. The Wisconsin built Sheridan rifles can be rated at the top of American air rifles, and above many made around the world.

Small story: In 1981 as High-school teenager, while at my friends backyard in Texas I accidently tripped and kicked a tree root and which actually was I found a rusted Sheridan .20 cal semi buried in my friends backyard. "I was like what the heck!!" My friend laughed and said It was broken, so I asked if I unburied it , may I keep it. he laughed and said sure. I took it home and cleaned and lubed it up, fixed a small nut (for the forearm hinge), pumped it a few times and It held air. By far was the most powerful air rifle I owned. (At the time I had a Daisy .177 Powerline and Crossman Power Master). I hunted small game (rabbit), I felt bad cuz the extensive damage this air rifle did, it didn't leave a hole like a .177 It blasted all the guts and brains out of rabbit. The homemade pellets (fishing lead weights) would often shatter and hit my eyes. My neighbor had borrowed it one weekend and he accidently(ricochet) shot his uncle and collapsed his lung. I ended trading that Sheridan for a 20 " black-light and some fluorescent posters. I felt that Sheridan had a curse.

I'm still have two full boxes of the original Sheridan cylindrical pellets. I got my Sheridan silver streak in '78 and still have it. But about 8 years ago the exhaust valve broke, and I had to order and install the new valve components. Even with the long tool thing to reach down in there, it is a difficult repair job, but I got it done. The new intake valve is teflon, and the new exhaust valve is stainless steel I think. The original exhaust valve was a bit thinner, and had chipped on the edge (it was pretty beaten up looking). Anyway I still shoot this rifle all the time, no scope or anything just shoot it with iron sights and it does fine.
