Wow! Gentleman, thank you. I know this video dates back 5 years, but I’ve learned so much here. I wish that I watched this before ruining my Crosman 2240. I’m relatively new to air guns, so I went ahead and used my .22 cleaning kit I used for my, well, let’s say, my regular firearms. After cleaning my 2240, gas started leaking badly. The solvents I used must have damaged the seals. I’ll purchase another 2240 and leave it alone, other than a drop of pellet oil on the tip of the CO2 cartridge each load. Again, much thanks.

Great advice from really knowledgeable guys, especially Tom. To add my $.02 worth, the few times I clean my PCP's, I just use a length of round weed trimmer line with a small "nub" melted onto one end, the other end sharpened. Poke the point thru the center of a patch, slide the patch down the line to the nub, and pull it thru the bore from the breech end. Works great. Not sure where I found that tip years ago, but I *think* it was from Ted Bier.

I also use the weedeater line but i do it a little different now. I used to just use a patch but now I use one of those cleaning pellets and poke the weed eater line through the center of it then poke though a patch to put on top of the pellet. That really fills the barrels rifling and get everything out.

Some barrels become more accurate as they become ‘leaded in’. Others will become more accurate after they’ve been cleaned. I clean a new gun before shooting it, then learn the gun. When I decide to clean the gun, it’s probably because a few pellets are going astray and I want to find out whether a ‘cleaning’ will correct the gun;s accuracy. After that, I decide what’s best for the type of gun. I’m only using sub 12ft lbs air rifles , but I wash and clean and lightly oil my pellets too. My regimen, adds up to accurate shooting. Thanks for the vid. It’s been interesting listening to these fellas, they’re a well of good info between them. Thanks fellas.

Thats lead pellets leaving a small trace behind. Airguns are not like powderburners (no gunpowder) and need a thin film to ride on. Cleaning removes this film and itll take 20-30 shots bring it back. Its ok to clean the barrel, but just be aware of this phenomenon .

I got a cheap Benjamin nitro piston. I like it alot i did a tattoo for It. It came with a petty darn good scope. Best ive had on an air Rifle don't know if it was stock or added after purchase. Anyways i shoot it alot. I had problems with all the screws rattleing loose no matter how tight I'd get them so i used black finger nail polish and painted all around the threads and around the head after tight. I was missing a scope bracket so i used a little J/B WELD on all of it but in a way i could cut it off if I need too. Im shooting 1 inch groups at 50-60 yards. Never have to zero the scope in anymore. I used a drop of silicone in the hole of the piston and the next shot sounded like a .22 long rifle and some vapor like smoke. It ripped part of my seal at the breach of my barral. I think it dieseled and ignited. I did this every 200 shots for awhile and i dont think i will to this again. Ill prolly drive it till the tires fall off or take the nitro piston apart and hand clean and lube all pieces and seals with silicone. Does anyone know is it necessary or will it damage piston using silicone dropped in hole?

QUESTION: With a break barrel air rifle, do you ever have to lubricate the part (pivot, or whatever you call it) where the barrel breaks? How? I have heard that when the surfaces wear out you lose accuracy because the slack in the barrel will increase.

It's mainly the "ball bearing" or the "latching piece," at the break. I got some *"Outers choke tube & gun grease,"* from Walmart that works perfect. It's just like a thick silicone grease / lube, so it sits and doesn't run. Therefore requiring reapplication, but they stopped selling it since the pandemic. At least at the stores around me, an I'm no longer sure where to find it. A single bottle can last almost a life time, but yeah a little goop of that when it starts to get dry. Will help to keep that mechanism from wearing down, ensuring your break is clean and holds properly.

My experience is very different. I have found that after 500 to 1000 shots, my accuracy will fall off. I run 1 wet patch which will be filthy. Then 3 or 4 dry patches. The last of the dry patches is still a little dirty. And after this, my accuracy is restored. This is MY experience with MY rifle. After 1000's of shots, this is what ive learned.
@americanairgunner
@americanairgunner Жыл бұрын
You make a good point. Every rifle can be different. Some actually prefer a little lead run through them before they are accurate. That’s why it is important to take your time and learn the rifle that you have. Thanks for sharing that experience.

I use 9.8gr round nose and 10.5gr and BOTH get in the 1023/1035 range at 23.5fpe ish. No fouling and stacks all day long. The 9.8gr round nose is accurate (HUNTING accurate) out to 70yds. I get a 1/4in group reliably. I'm REALLY hoping to get some h&n sniper magnums and fet my imagined results too lol.

EVERY co2 bb gun I've ever had, has broken because of LEAVING an old ( but still charged ) co2 in it. An ends destroying all the seals, to where the next time I place a new co2 in it. All of the air leaks out of the sides of the bb gun. An unless it's like some of these "newer airguns," where the co2 loads into the "magazine" that holds bb's. Which if ruined can be replaced, one that co2 seal is destroyed. The entire airgun is no longer good.

Several, maybe many, years ago, the topic of lubing pellets was very popular... helped to reduce any "leading" for high power airguns, and greatly reduce the need for cleaning your barrels... so lubing helped maintain your barrel. Back then, Slick 50 One Lube was recommended for PCP guns, and Finish Line KryTech chain wax lubricant for spring pistons, although I think it was also recommended for PCP's, but you could not use One Lube in a springer. I mainly shoot springers, and do use KryTech to lube my pellets... it does not take much to do a tin or box of pellets... best to clean the pellets before hand to remove residue... again from what was recommended way back then. Opinions on lubing ?

Do you guys have any insight on DPMS Pather Arms full auto blow back SBR m4/ at replica made by Crosman. I’ve had two of them catastrophically fail on me. First one a bb got stuck in the barrel near the magazine. This last one it would malfunction after one shot and then click. I field stripped it. Parts were worn, my assembly normal wear and tear, but functioning. Then I fired it again and it failed after one shot and then for the life of me could not get the upper to separate from the lower. It was locked or frozen together. Luckily with a store credit and a great retail store they traded out a brand new 3rd. I have a feeling it has to do with maintenance, cleaning and oiling it. I cannot get a clear answer on what oil to use. Cros man authorized dealers say put oil on the bb that should do: other you tubers say to oil o rings and moving parts. Which obviously makes sense. But no clear answer on oil type, application areas, and frequency. I’ve babied each one of DPMS sbr’s I’ve owned. Now I’m apprehensive about even operating the BB gun because I think the store I purchased the gun from will not be so kind with a fourth weapon. Is this sbr DPMS just a lemon? Have you hear anything? Any insight from you guys on the channel or any commenters would be greatly appreciated. 👍

Hi guys, i have a hammerli springer and an air arms s510 pcp, i dont so much do anything to my rifles as far as maintenance goes, if there not shooting straight i check the scope mounts, on the pcp theres a pin stop near the front mount, and on the back mount i have the magazine housing, so i have kind of trapped the scope mounts between them to minimise front/back movements of the scope mounts, but to be honest theres little to no recoil, so its more for if i knock the scope if i fall over with the gun, which i try not to do As for cleaning, i shoot 16 grain pellets, i dont know if that helps, but i havent cleaned the bore yet, and they both put a 10 shot group into a half inch circle Exterior cleaning i have been told a trick, dont use factory made/synthetic gun oil if your hunting, because critters will smell it a mile away and run, i dont know how true that is, but i tend to put a drop of corn oil on a rag and wipe the fingerprints off every part of the gun, metal and stock I have naturally oily skin, and my body oil seems to be slightly acidic, and i have known to rust metal really fast by touching it, so i do wipe my guns down after almost every use, i havent had a problem yet They say oil is like a water displacement fluid, and stops the stock rotting too, again, i dont know, im only going on what im told, but it seems to be working I keep the springer un-cocked when not in use, so the spring isnt compressed I keep the pcp charged up full to 190 bar to stop the cylinder seals relaxing, i havent had air leak out of it yet

It is said not to use petroleum based oils on the co2 cylinder, as they will ruin seals. I looked up Pellgun Oil, which is recommended to lube the tops of the co2 cylinders, but also seen information that Pellgun Oil is petroleum based? Please give some input on this - thank you.

Not all oil will ruin seals. Pellgun Oil is actually ATF or Transmission Fluid. Only a drop is needed at the top of each CO2 cart.

What should I do to take care of the Springer piston?
@UmarexAir
@UmarexAir 5 жыл бұрын
RWS chamber lube for the piston seal. Spring Cylinder oil for the spring. Only 2 drops per 1,000 shots on the piston seal. 4-5 drops on the spring at the same interval should do it.
@EarthSurferUSA
@EarthSurferUSA 5 жыл бұрын
@@UmarexAir It much depend on how much power your gun makes. The 30fpe springer guns will ignite 2 drops to about 25% more energy, (crony'ed it), and can damage the piston seal. I know putting a bit too much in will damage my seal, (bey my 32fpe gun made 80fpe that shot). Ignition in the compression chamber is a lot different, (harder on the piston seal), than ignition of some fuel in a pellet skirt. So, what do you do for more powerful springer guns? Nothing. Scotch bright the bore and change the piston seal when it loses power after thousands of shots. Worst thing I did to my big max springer, was put combustible lube in the combustion chamber.

Reality is that any machinery that is open to the air will gather dust even more so if it is coated in grease or oil, dust in the air contains grit. Grit and grease will grind away at moving parts. Get your springer cleaned every two to three years, gas rams may be sealed but the pistons sleeves and compression seals require cleaning same as springers. If you live in a dry region you will have to shorten the periods between cleaning. There is no longer any need to strip the air guns down to clean them., take off the stock pour in alcohol or other degreasing fluid that will evaporate rinse it around pour it out repeat a few times let it evaporate then use spray cans and the application straw to re grease with the correct lubricant wipe off any excess put the stock back on. Clean the bore with bits of old tee shirt on a nylon pull through until you are no longer pulling dirt and old lead out fire at least ten rounds to re coat the bore. Have fun be safe.

Pull through patches is what we use on most of the airguns we test. A little ballistol oil on the first patch and then dry patches until it is clean. Start the patch at the breech and pull through the barrel so as not to get any crud into the transfer port. Some airguns perform better dirty, so we suggest you shoot it and only clean when accuracy is affected.

@@reclusepilgrim Thanks! I appreciate the viewership. Cleaning pellets can be used effectively, but I prefer standard patches and a pull through (flexible rod) for cleaning. With your Marauder, get a drinking straw and stick it into the end of the shroud so you can feed your pull through, through the baffled section without it getting caught on anything. Or you can remove the shroud altogether by unscrewing it . I prefer the straw method for shrouded guns myself. The VFG cleaning kits are what I use if I have to use cleaning pellets, but outside of that, I use a flexible rod/pull through with patches.
