From 9:31 to 9:46 is the best part of this video; Betty White has to be one of the only people ever to get an entire audience to laugh with pure, unfiltered joy

7:48 - audiences at _The Daily Show_ and almost all of the late-night talk shows could learn something from the bit between 7:48 and Betty White - specifically the part at 7:58. Instead of thoughtlessly interrupting at every mere mention of something favorable, even steamrolling over intentional pauses for humor or dramatic effect... The overzealous few people applauding at 7:58 actually stop, as soon as they realize that he wasn't finished speaking! Currently, I routinely notice the increasing amount of time lost waiting for unwarranted clapping, thanks to studio audiences who will perform a full round of applause - or they'll start booing like children - the very **instant** they hear some key word or phrase, or the name of a politician. Noticeable in contemporary late-night is the lack of a delay, between what's spoken and the crowds' response. You can hear it, in contrast to the roast clips here. Above, for example, when the crowd is actually listening, comprehending, and considering what they're hearing - _before_ responding! - the majority of the time, they mostly don't respond in any cohesive way before thinking. They don't leap to respond in the middle of a joke. By comparison to the worst studio audience, in this regard; that of Stephen Colbert (who I actually really like, and who I have enjoyed for over two decades now), it's quite noticeable how the audience at the Ed Sullivan Theater have simply stopped **thinking** before they'll enthusiastically interrupt a joke, even though it seems to be, from where I sit, _obvious_ satire or sarcasm, wrecking the intentional comedic pause, before they hear the completely contradictory conclusion of the joke! On _The Daily Show,_ last week, for example, they were applauding between almost every sentence - _literally_ - mostly, it seems, for no more reason than because last week's guest host, Al Franken, _is a slow, thoughtful speaker!_ I am not exaggerating with the following: it's reached a level of such brainless idiocy now, all the host or guest has to do is stop speaking for about two seconds or so, and the crowd, now uncomfortable with silence, will just start clapping and cheering. I hate that "my side" is now indistinguishable from the three-syllable-chant-loving Trump crowd - both will now start chanting anything the host begins to repeat, even if that host is doing so as a mockery, as part of a joke. I hate that it's now a part of _TDS,_ and other shows I love and enjoy. It's nice to hear what it _should_ sound like... Not to mention the fantastic roasting!
