I like the rule. I think the only time they'll deliberately set up for the 2 pointer is if they are down by 1 with a minute to go, basically going for the win instead of the tie, and might see a couple where they just happen to be more than 40 out on the last tackle/ last play of the half. I predict no more than 10 successful 2 pointers for the whole season.

The longest known field Goals in the game are by the great Dally Messenger & Rabbitoh legend, Kevin Lummy Longbottom. Dally Messenger kicked a 75 yard Field goal with his left foot (He was Right Footed) for the Roosters in 1909 & Longbottom did it twice. Once against Canterbury & once against Eastern Suburbs in 1962. As both were before Televised Football, there is no physical evidence, but they are recorded. It's believed that both had some wind assistance, but WOW. Kevin Longbottom also kicked 2 Penalty Goals for Souths from within his 25 yard line. Frenchman Puig Aubert is also recorded as kicking a field Goal from his 25 Yard line in a Test Match against Australia.

The one from Lydon was even further than it might seem as the match was at Maine Road, Manchester City's ground which was a massive 116.5yards/107m between the posts (hence the skinny in goal area). That takes it to be around 64-65 yards or 58.5-59.5m
@leiderleider2 жыл бұрын
What a load of bs. Why would they have an extra 7 metres of playing field? Makes no sense at all. Every super league game has skinny in goal areas, that’s just the way it is. They don’t just add 7 metres to the standard 100 metre playing field specifications. Like come on, that’s just not how the game works my guy
@fred123112 жыл бұрын
@@leiderleider from Google For long periods of its history Maine Road had the widest pitch in England. However, the width was changed several times by managers wishing to alter the pitch size to suit their style of play. In the final season before the ground was closed, the pitch size was 107 x 71 metres (116.5 x 78 yards). Hello egg, meet face,
@leiderleider2 жыл бұрын
@@fred12311 Funny how this isn’t the gotcha moment you thought it would be but ok homie, I’ll indulge. You even said it yourself, “in the final season, the pitch size was 107 x71 metres”. Final season was 2003. The field goal in question happened in 1989. But the fact of the matter is, the ground was a soccer stadium. They literally painted playing fields on it for other sports usage. Soccer games can have varied field sizes but Rugby League just does not. Your interesting factoid is only relevant to Soccer. The pitch could be 200m wide by 200m long and they’re still gonna erect a standard sized Rugby League field on it (100m between posts). To put it in even simpler terms; a 100m sprint race doesn’t become a 107m sprint just coz it’s hosted at Maine Road stadium. Something something egg

In the 70’s 80’s and 90’s it wasn’t very rare for schoolboys to snap field goals from 50+ meters. Rugby League then was actually Rugby League. not bubble ball. It was a defensive game then and for that reason great attackers we’re actually great. And field goals had specialists for that purpose. Stop celebrating the watered down bullshit version of the great game.
