I'm a beginning woodworker and found this book kzbin.infoUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ gives useful advice on different types of tools & their usage, types of bits, safety etc. So when i do start to buy tools and bits, i basically know what to look for, how to use them & the types of woods certain bits are recommended to use on.

I'm in Florida/USA, very humid and hot 3/4 of the year. I like your program more than any US programs. All of the improvements are things any family can afford and accomplish. Your lumber is cut MUCH wider than here. It looks like your 2"x4" boarda are actually that size. Ours are a good 1/2" narrower. Love this.

they laid the grass on road base! It should have top soil to grow! The frames are held together with glue! The lack of skill in this is crazy and only leaves disappointment for the owners to figure out and correct where they cut corners.

"Anyone can do it" if they have a LOT of money. Power tools, wheelbarrow, lots of lumber, screens, paints, plants and plant pots, lots of young trees (that alone is an outrageous amount of money), bags of cement, bags of sand, soil, sod, pavers, patio furniture, a new fancy grill, etc. Yes, it looks great! (not a fan of wood painted gray, but that's just personal preference). Charlie and Johanna are delightful! But the title of the video is misleading because even if they have that much extra money, not everyone can re-grade a lawn, build a retaining wall, and build steps for a porch. Maybe technically they could if they took classes on it or had some help?

curious how those trees settled, straight from the pot into the hole like that... also, is it telling that someone jokes 'relax and get away from the kids' - because this makeover seems less kid friendly than the original yard; but we all have opinions, and these folks are paid for theirs, unlike me...

Many people live within walking distance of a play ground and their kids spend all day at school and then go to sports practice. So kids get plenty of time outdoors and don't really need alot in their backyard. The deck is plenty big enough for them to bring toys out and play.

Nice to look at yet NOT built to last. Treated pine only stop pests NOT WATER ROT. Every area of this has water rot issues. Also it’s obvious these guys are not into maintaining, so an OILED deck that has no mineral oils is far easier to keep than having to resand and recoat a deck every 2 years. ALWAYS tease root bound trees like these before planting and dig and backfill a hole 3 x times the size of the root ball so the roots can spread easily. Feed w seasol and never cover the root ball for the 1 st year. A series of sound panels along the fence would of been better than the screens which don’t cover anything.

no shit sherlock. The point is that all these projects require little expertise and can be DIY weekend projects - it doesn't all have to be done at once. Fixing the levels first was the big thing that the inexperienced may not have thought of - totally helps a small space like this and makes it flow. Personally I think a smaller hedge like a Magnolia little gem would have worked better for these guys who don't look like garden maintenance types. I much prefer when the couples actually express interest in features of the makeover too
