Slotted metal brace-that's hilarious. My Viennese square has the opposite problem. The centre of the nameboard, where the brace is, is bulging out a bit. Wood has shrunk. Metal hasn't. Not bad enough I couldn't work around it fortunately...

These type of instruments require a specialist that has a trained experience with them, in order to bring out the beauty of the tone they can bring. Otherwise, in the hands of an amateur they end up sounding like tinker toys. I recommend that Keith Hill would be a good choice, and so would Zuckerman Harpsichords as they use to build fortepianos.
