I was hesitant about putting in 2 Bosch package inverters on my house last year. I have been impressed, and I only had 10 minutes of heat strips on one system and 0 on the other one. The savings on heating and cooling after replacing two 26 year old gas packs has been impressive.
@michaelangelo6217
@michaelangelo6217 Жыл бұрын
All of your energy savings will be used when repairs are needed, unfortunately. The common components that fail cost 3-4 times what a minimum SEER rated unit will cost. For instance, a normal condensor fan motor will cost between $500-$600 (total) for replacement. Those Bosch high efficiency motors are around $1500 (motor only) and you will still need to pay labor and possibly a little mark up on the part. In other words, over $2000 for your repair. Note, these costs would be for an out of warranty replacement. In warranty, you are subject to labor costs and service call.

@@michaelangelo6217 it makes sense for me in zone 6 where heating cost for my modest house is 2k to 3k a season and my split system cost me 6 grand, installed. I can see where further south a traditional heat pump is the more logical choice. Furthermore, instead of spending 5 to 10 grand (or more) on a new hvac system, put that money into insulation and air sealing and also maybe resistance heating can get you through a few seasons or a winter if you're strapped for cash with a broken furnance.

I installed a 5 head(only using 4 heads at this time) Fujitsui n our own NorCal home. Works great in our cooling season with a 15k btu head for the living and dining room. 9k, 9k,6k for the bedrooms when in use Now that it;s heating season, the 15k head in the living room doesn't do well for us and I probably need an additional head in the dining room...or not. So, we continue to use the Williams 35k btu natural gas wall unit for heating of the home. 64* downstairs and 68* upstairs. Not ideal, but gas is cheap(er) than power charges that range .for $0.13-$10.15/kw in the winter. Summer rates are $0.13-$0.32/kw, depending on time of day. Farther south, in SoCal SCE/PG&E run upwards of $0.50kw for peak summer rates...ouch! BTW...If I was to do it again, I'd pay the upcharge and go with Mitsubishi and oneway ceiling cassettes in the main areas and master bdrm. The one way cassettes go between 16" ceiling joists, the square ones require 22" opening and possible cutting of joists to make them fit.. Thanks for the time you spend posting these videos! -Brian

After you press SW2 and it flashes "ON", you have to firmly short press SW1 back, after that it'll flash a number and should take a few seconds to go into defrost. I install them units daily in canada and had to figure the defrost since in our climate we need to set the dip switch number 2 to "hard defrost" otherwise it wouldnt properly defrost since the normal setting is too short.

I realy want to test this MrCool/Gree rebrand using a Forced Defrost. Any advice? I will be using this unit for primary heat at - 10 degrees F. In our dry winter climate here in the Canadian rocky mountains I do not expect problem icing but have set ODU for "Strong" defrost. I want to confirm the AHU operation in defrost to turn on heat strip and fan. Interesting in this discussion to see that Bosch is a comparable if not actuallly a Gree rebrand unit. These are odd units that energise the reversing valve on HEAT while most heatpumps energise on COOL. A sign of just being an air conditioner with a reversing valve and not a Heat Pump engeneered from the ground up. What do you think?

You really need the service manual for sure with these inverter systems. It's kinda difficult to locate a good textbook dealing specifically with these types of systems because each manufacturer differ somewhat in their technology especially when it comes to troubleshooting fault codes and entering diagnostic mode. The VRF and VRV systems are even more complicated.

I had the same issue forcing it into defrost until i figured you needed to press sw1 after the sw2. Even with strong defrost mode set i find in cold climates such as Canada the defeost cycle isn't long enough, even if it manages to defrost the coil the water freezes in the pan faster than it can get out. If anyone knows of a way to extend the defrost or fix this issue let me know. I am considering a heat tracing cable in the bottom of the unit next if no other solutions come about.
