A fabulous hike thanks to Sebastian, it’s definitely not a walk but it was made a lot easier with your guidance and good humour. As a group of 7 we all agreed that it was the highlight of our trip to Santorini. We highly recommend this hike, it’s not too hard if your reasonably fit. Your the knowledge of the local area, the history and all your tips on how to get around Santorini made our holiday memorable. We’ll catch you next time ! Sue & the Bavarian crew

6:17 Thank you for this detailed instructions. We really enjoyed this hike last week and as i am massively afraid of hights, the tipp, to turn right to an easier way on this one specific spot saved me from getting in trouble on this beautiful route. 🙏🏻 At the beginning of June it was about 23 degrees on the island and the hike at 2:00 p.m. was possible without any problems. In addition, there were still pleasantly few tourists there! 😊 Santorini ist one of the most beautiful island I‘ve been so far. I look forward to go back there some day. 😍

Wow, Wow, wow. This is invaluable information. This video really put the "hike" into perspective for me. I was worried that I would not be able to enjoy much of the food in Greece. Clearly, I'm going to get one hell of a workout walking around for 4 days and especially on this hike. I can't wait for my trip in a few months. I look forward to seeing you in Athens in September 23' Sebastian as we just booked your Night Walking tour.

ευχαριστώ Sebastian.. I was in Santorini this week (March) and hiking from Fira to Oia based on your video.. I took a rest at St Markos church with a great view of both side of santorini coast (referring to your video at around the 6th min) as well as the church at the top if 3rd hill... it was sunshine and very windy but I enjoy it. And as it is a low season, I was completely alone hiking from Fira to Oia..

Another excellent video. We just did this hike a few days ago starting from Caldera’s Memories hotel and I think this video gives the most clear and helpful outline of the hike. This can certainly be challenging in some points with the loose, cobblestone and rocky trail. It would be too easy to twist an ankle on a lose rock if you are not paying attention on the downhills. The day we did it was super windy so hold onto your hats!! Once you get to the little all white church you can go up to the right behind the yellow building for some great photos of the church overlooking the caldera. It took us a while to finish the hike as we stopped for photos and resting a bit along the way. It took us 3 hours without the Fira and Imerovigli sections starting about halfway along, so unless you plan of walking past everything and not stopping at all it will take longer than 3 hours to do the whole thing in my opinion. Great stuff. Thanks Sebastian!!

Can confirm that hike is no joke. Last time I stayed in Santorini it was at Kostas Villas in Oia (highly recommended by the way). Made it up the first big hill, and that was it for me 🙂. The sight of those two other big hills on the path was too much. Stunning views nonetheless. Next time will attempt to start from Imerovigli instead.
@GreeceExplained Жыл бұрын
Hahah yeah starting from Oia, that first hill (= Mavro Vouno) is pretty intense. Doing it the other way around (Fira => Oia) is a bit more gentle. Good luck on your second try !

Thank you for the answer Seb! We are still pondering after doing the 60% hike, 1) From the video 7:22 where you said you can stop the hike and go back by bus, how long is 40% remaining if we opt to keep walking to Oia? 1 hour? 30 min? 2) Is it worth the remaining hike given we will be in Oia at the first few days and that time is limited? Or you recommend to go all the way if we can? 3) What time do you recommend to start (end of Sep/early Oct) in the morning?? Because we also want to return back to Fira in time for cable car and walk around if have time (given time will be tight for us) 4) Is Skaros Rock worth it? How long extra do we need to allow hike as well (and then keep on going from Fira to Oia)? 1 hour? 2 hours? Thank you again!
@GreeceExplained2 жыл бұрын
1) 1 hour 2) If you're on a tight schedule, I wouldnt do it. You will already have seen gorgeous views, the remaining 40% wont be very different. 3) Start 5-6 hours before the moment you want to be back at the cable car. 4) No

Kalispera Sebastian! I didn't see anywhere in the comments below. At 7:28 what is that bus stop? I'm considering getting off there and hiking the remainng 40% to Oia. Unless you consider the first 60% is prettier?
@GreeceExplained2 жыл бұрын
Good question ! It's the "San Antonio Hotel" bus stop. Not sure which part is better. The 1st half is more about the white and blue houses. The 2d half is out in the wilderness, much more of a "hiking" vibe. I let you decide what you connect more to ! :-)
@the-matrix11112 жыл бұрын
Great detail video Seb! I am wondering if you decided to return after 40% hike and take the bus to Fira terminal (but have to go to Oia bus terminal first as you stated), then will you be charged €2 as 1 fare (despite not getting off the bus at Oia terminal waiting to depart for Fira terminal destination) or it will be counted as €4 as 2 fares?

You'll be charged 1 fare only ! And you'll pay in Oia, not when you board.

Hey Sebastian, your videos have been a lifesaver in planning our upcoming trip to Santorini! We're thinking of doing the hike you suggested, but we're not sure if it's advisable in mid-/late November. Would you recommend it during this time of the year, and does the "starting 3 hours before sunset" rule still hold true? Thanks for your help, and keep up the great work!
@GreeceExplained Жыл бұрын
Yes November is a GREAT time to hike in Greece ! Not too hot, not too cold either. If you wanna catch the sunset from the hill before Oia, then yes you should start 3h prior. But if you dont care about the sunset, start at whatever time you want.

At "Blue Note" (the ice cream place with the toilet), go straight, then first to the right, and after a few staircases, you'll get to the main road (maps.app.goo.gl/v8xWqXkBmk7PLUTv8), from where you can get a cab.

If we carry the 1 year old in a baby carrier, would you say the hike is safe for our group? 1 person is a bit nervous of heights, but seems you can avoid the “scarier” sections by selecting the easier path.

You missed the best part! When I hike from Fira to Oia, the “reward” for the arduous journey is to walk down to the water down the steps with the donkeys to where everyone goes swimming. I find it’s an amazing way to cap off a 3 hour hike- to go swimming and jumping off the small island and then having an early dinner at that port at the bottom of the stairs. I don’t know all the names sorry!
