3:05 That's not how it works. A dealership that could support 15 salesman ends up laying off 7 and the remaining employees end up making the same as before. Dealerships are also now extremely rarely privately owned, and instead are part of huge conglomerates, meaning the years and years of record profits can likewise sustain them for a very long time.

Low margins. Greed is right. You can have higher profits with lower volume vehicles (with larger margin). Why sell 100 cheap cars when you can sell 5 more expensive ones and make the same total profit? It’s very short sighted because we all have a glut of new expensive SUVs and trucks.

Finally the local dealer got in a USED Z with 300+ miles on it that they had bought at auction. I tried to make a deal on it but they wanted $18k over sticker for it. They said I could get on the waiting list for a new Z but it would be a bid process for the six people that were on the list. Their greed has cost them dearly. I will never buy another new Nissan.

@@wescam2958 Hyundai/Kia haven’t raised prices much in the past few years which is why they’ve taken more market share. Toyota’s cheaper vehicles still fly off the lot too and they have been taking market share from Stellantis and others. They look at cost per units and market values. $15k on a Pathfinder and $3k per Versa profit wise. Yes it’s going to take more work but your customers will tell you what they actually want with their wallets. Ford nor their dealers make money on the Maverick but they are on track to sell 200,000 + this year alone. That’s a massive long term profit from service and repeat sales. I give an analogy of “you can have $50 right now or I can show you how to make $100k a year forever?” And you say “where’s the $50?
