From my understanding the manufacturers report a sale when they ship a vehicle to a dealership, not when the vehicle is actually sold to a retail customer. They are counting all those vehicles on dealership lots as sold vehicles.
@SuperSportRob9512 күн бұрын
Correct. Once that vehicle crosses the finish line at the plant it is deemed sold by the manufacturer and they are paid. Thats why there is heavy pressure to hit build numbers at plants and keep the line running. Mike - I've fairly recently been forced into getting a new vehicle (for my wife) due to a totaled one. At times, & in certain locales, used markets can really suck. When that happens you can use a broker (which I've done & will do again), or you can leverage places like Costco to gauge what dealers can 100% do & then go it yourself using those figures (done that in the last couple years as well). My preference is using a broker. All but completely eliminates dealer b.s. Failing that, I will test drive a car at a dealership then negotiate via text &/or email. Takes a lot of pain out of things if you have to engage in procuring a new vehicle.

I paid 17,000.00 for my 1999 F-150 regular cab 5 speed with manual windows etc in 1998.3 years ago it sheared the pin on the oil pump drive shaft and spun three rod bearings at 286,000 miles so looked at new ones for 50 thousand and up,had a good laugh, went home and set about rebuilding the entire truck.literally.about 6,000.00 and probably 120 hours of labor later and I have a completely rebuilt 4.2 that runs better than new,uses no oil or anything,new radiator, starter, alternator, AC compressor, water pump, coil pack, tensioner and idler pulleys,belt,fan clutch, clutch assembly, transmission fluid, transmission seals,new pinion, axle, carrier bearings and seals in the rear end, new upper and lower ball joints, brake pads, rotors, brake shoes, all four shocks,new tires and some other stuff and most of it has a lifetime warranty.I love my old truck and honestly I get more compliments on it than I think I would a new one.now motorcycles are another story.I need to thin a few of those out but good used low mileage bikes are cheap and insurance is cheap and I like riding so I'll probably be buying, selling and swapping bikes till I die, the only time I need a vehicle is when I can't ride my bike anyway which isn't very often.

If you pay $92,000 MSRP, you’re looking at $100,000 after TTL and other charges. If you drive the truck into the ground over 20 years, that vehicle will cost you $5,000 a year, $6,000 if you add financing costs. You can double that for full coverage insurance, maintenance, repairs and fuel. So you’re looking at $250,000 over 20 years if fuel, repairs and insurance premiums somehow defy inflation. The financing costs, insurance, tax and maintenance on the average home would be less over 20 years. You can have a Super Duty or house. Crazy. These car makers are smoking something.

I bought a new F250 in 2003. I search for used for 9 months and wasn’t saving enough to buy used, plus wasn’t finding the features I wanted. I kept that for 250,000 miles. Wasn’t a very good truck . 2017 bought a used 1016 F150 had 40,000 miles on it, now I am at 195,000. Been a very good truck. I have watched prices sky rocket. I feel as you do that 60-75% of truck buyers could be driving a car. Rise in demand plus wanting luxury features like the Mercedes they were driving and still should be. These are some of the factors that allowed the prices to go as high as they have. 2025 will be a market correction. 3/4 ton prices are the lowest I have seen in 2 decades. I am also aware we have to spend more to get a few nice to have features. The XLT isn’t much of a step from an XL now. I have been keeping them well into the 200,000 mile range, I am not going to do that anymore. I will sell or trade at 120,000 or so. This is because unless you get a lemon , unlikely mechanical troubles before then. I never had ANY trouble with my F150 until about 170,000 miles. Even then little stuff, back up camera. Stellantis seems to be in the worst shape in regard to sales and inventory. I have always like the RAM but never tried one. I am hearing rumors about some very large discounts , large enough I could buy new for what I expect to spend for lightly used. All the other manufactures will be affected if RAM really drops prices. Go course the used market will be Brutal ! Powders and dealers will both be underwater. I will be looking for a 2024 or even a 2023 leftover. I think manufacturers dropping their V-8’s are making a mistake. I will only buy a RAM with a V-8 IF I need up trying a RAM. Yes 2025 should be a Very Interesting year for truck sales !

I have a 1997 Nissan pick up truck that I’ve had for seven years after having F250’s which I used to pull a horse trailer. I paid $2400 for it. In seven years, I have put a set of tires on it, changed the oil on schedule, and replaced the radiator (in my front yard by myself cost$46). My full coverage insurance is $276 for six months. It is what I need. It has a ladder rack on top which I used to transport 16 foot lumber. You just can’t fix stupid…. I have better ways to spend my money. I 💕 my truck.

I think you’re correct about the May to August time frame as best to buy in 2025. I’m curious about why you think dealers are hoping for a bailout of some sort? Do you mean dealers are hoping to benefit indirectly from some sort of bailout to OEMs? Or do you think dealers are expecting some sort of unprecedented direct bailout?

Great information as always. Thanks. Have you heard the highly probable rumor that Stellantis is going to cut 30% from RAM truck MSRPs in the second quarter of 2025? What are your thoughts on this and how the other truck manufacturers will respond?

Am I out of line? I saw a RAM Laramie with the heading $15,000 off. So I offered $55.6K out the door total. I've been at first played for a deal they tried to convince me was what I was asking save I pay the sales tax in addition to my offer. Well, that did not compute based on my state sales tax first off, then they just said they were loosing $15K and they needed the $1,700 additional at a minimum. I said fine, but no sale. I was up-front and told them I would pay $55K (the actual salesman got me up to $55.6K because he said he could work the manager for that...but, no). I came back 30-days later and the same Laramie is on their lot so I offered them the $55.6K again. They tried the same stuff this time saying because I wasn't a current owner of a Ford. What BS. It shouldn't matter if I own a Yugo...if they can give a rebate for Ford owners they can give one for me (I own a Volvo and a Porsche, lol...wasn't Volvo at one time owned by Ford...so count that as long as you're being arbitrary like a crook lets call my Volvo a Ford because we can. I hate car stealerships. They are the lowest form of humanity selling a needed staple of everyday life. They sicken me. Games, lies, cheats, and prices that change by the minute...BTW, at the GM dealership they wanted to know if I was a Costco member. I am, but WTH does that really have to do with the lowest price you can offer a buyer with cash or good credit in hand. I hate the car business as it makes the Mafia look like a bastion of honesty and integrity.

Best selling doesn’t mean it’s the best. It means that Ford has more dealerships throughout the country than any other dealership and so more people will be inclined to purchase a Ford truck since it’s readily accessible when needed.

I bought my 2016 Toyota Tundra LIMITED Crew Cab New in September 2015 for $42,000. I now have 26,000 miles last oil change at dealership. I guess I’m not trading anytime soon . Retired 7 yrs ago and this truck should last for awhile.👍

What has happened is the government has pressured manufacturers to produce EV’s. That experiment has failed and manufacturers have raised the prices on the vehicle’s that people do want to cover their loses on EV’s.

bought 2 new 2024 GMC serria 1500 for 62k each, a white and a red one and pay cash too, my red one is in my garage in storage and have only 25 miles on it, will not drive it until my white one wears out,not going to license it or insurance it until i'm ready to drive it in 5 years or so, if i wait 5 years to buy the same truck, it probably cost over 100k, so i did it to save money

Preach! It's gotten out of hand. I don't drive trucks but GMC hasn't sold a new vehicle under $30K in years and Chevy has stopped making economy cars. Taxpayers bailed the auto industry out and now we're getting the horns. Late model Repos go to auction, get bought by the same dealerships that sold them new and get resold as used.

Hi from Montreal, ok the old man is talking again, but not to long ago 1969 my parents bought a duplex for under 25,000$ they showed a truck at 89,000$ price of 3 duplexes and still have enough to buy 3 brand new cars. I know I bought a brand new Pontiac brought in 1975, for 5875$ hard to believe. 😢😢

I remember way back in the 1900s almost no one owned a truck. the few people who did use them as daily drivers were weirdos no one wanted to be around. the types of monster trucks people buy now are the type that you had to go the coliseum back in the 80s to see - they were usually driving across a row of crushed cars. it's similar to how the food we now eat on a daily basis started out as crap you'd buy at a circus or carnival.

And after all this, I will continue to be the exact opposite of what dealerships want their customers to be. The last two times I’ve been to a dealership I got my best friend $15,000 off MSRP on a 3500 RAM and my mom a pre-owned car that they tried everything to say it wasn’t in their system. Both were pristine and top of the line, but they lacked important features. Luckily both had every possible option after an ebay haul and a couple cold ones!

Cost of giving auto workers payraise is just part of cost production and its passed down to the consumers. Which is why they're reluctant to lower the prices on their vehicles.

Unions have driven up labor costs which are translating too higher prices!
@McMuffinV212 күн бұрын
If you believe that, you are incredibly lost. It isn’t union workers in Mexico making $2 an hour that’s the issue, it’s charging $70k for a truck that is worth maybe $40k. Interest rates are awful, quality is down, prices are up.
