I suppose because in today's market, there's a certain standard that people feel it HAS to follow. While visuals are an amazing thing, what makes the game fun and worthwhile are wholly more important in my opinion. You can brush aside not having mega graphics and visual bugs, as long as there's nothing game-breaking it's fine. The sound design in this game is fantastic though and the voice-acting is so good!

I enjoyed this game, jank and all. It's easily the best game Spiders has produced thus far. The environments were pretty (although repetitive) and they clearly reused a lot of assets, but these are the reality of smaller dev teams with smaller budgets. I do agree with many other reviews that say the game feels like a 10-15 hour game stretched to 30 hours through repetitive tasks and an inordinate amount of running back and forth. Same issue they had with Technomancer. Still a fun game, but honestly i'd wait for a sale.
@Whippets5 жыл бұрын
Finally a reviewer who gets IT. This game isn't half as bad or janky as some more well known reviewers (that shall remain nameless) think. I'm 50 hours in and thoroughly enjoying myself --- yes the lip syncing is a bit off, the facial animations aren't sophisticated, assets are reused and the combat at times can seem a bit loose (at higher difficulties) .... BUT the story and the quests (in general) are better than a vast number of games/RPGs out there (past and present) ---- not to mention that some people are just being nostalgic and have forgotten what playing their favorite RPGs in vanilla form was like (needing to have modders to fix broken quest lines to make the game playable). With Greedfall I ran into 1 small issue with a quest and it was easy to resolve ---- and that's in 50+ hours, so one thing Greedfall doesn't have an issue with is being a bug riddled game. The game is fun and it scratches an itch, I really don't want to go back and play Mass Effect, Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Dragon Age, etc. again, for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. time because there aren't enough "good" present day RPGs --- Greedfall is pretty good despite its flaws.

O got greedfall because of ps plus I've only played about 11 hours but I've loved pretty much every second of it and with any problem with the game I acknowledge it but I also acknowledge the fact that this is a AA game with a team of like 20 people and the fact that they were able to make such a fantastic game is astounding there are some problems for instance the abundance of invisible walls but it doesn't cause that much of a problem it's relatively minor but this games existence shows you don't need AAA budget to make a fantastic game and I think that if EA or similar companies used all that money to make halfway decent games they would be untouchable

I noticed there was a mention of Dragon Age Inquisition, but I still don't get why most people hated that one. It not a revolutionary game, but the fervent hatred for DAI just seem to be a bit overblown to me. Anthem isn't a good game, no doubt about that. It has a good base, but everything else is just terribly poor. Greedfall is a good game; it's fun and interesting, so long as the player don't look too closely at everything. Double AA games are just AAA games that haven't been patched ;) AA games are also where AAA games used to be before gaming became a multibillion dollar industry: Games made by gamers (studios) for gamers, and not stockholders. That's why a lot of AA games are niche (focused) and scaled back instead of trying to be everything for everybody like Matty, said. The games industry as a whole used to be like this in the late '90s, early 2000s, but then it changed as games went mainstream thanks to consoles like Xbox and PS. The games became more mass market focused up until today where many so-called games are just platforms for MTXs.

Regarding the story, the ending quest did kinda disappoint. I went expecting a great pay off at the end, especially considering the great build up beforehand. The main ending was reduced to a binary good and evil choice right at the end. It's as if they completely ran out of money by the end. At least there are variations to the world state depending on what you did in the game. If only they had made the game a little shorter and made lesser locations they could have had a more tighter and focused choice driven end game. That ending is only my main problem with the game. It was so abrupt. I felt very unfulfilled after I spent 46 hours on the game. Vampyr had a decent pay off and Hellblade had a fantastic ending. Hell Spiders' previous game The Technomancer had an excellent ending.

Polish often comes along with streamlining. Streamlining often means fewer mechanics and a thing people tend to call "lack of soul". A lot of games I like are janky. Always reminds me hat people made a game, not an AI applying an algorithm to create a formulaic, "perfect" game.
@lehelisbored5 жыл бұрын
This is illustrated in a lot of obscure older eurojank and Slav jank games that are technically quite poor, but are rich in ambition, mechanics and ideas. Mostly not well executed ideas, but you could tell that the people making the games really cared.

Hey there Marty, so I took your advice and started the game up on Hard after hearing you say it was too easy on Normal, and I’ve been finding myself getting my ass kicked by the sheer numbers the enemy has over me, and my companions go down pretty quickly without doing much to these hordes. Would you say it’s advisable to sneak around and avoid fights where you’re completely outclassed? At least until you level up enough to the point where you wreck house on the enemies? I never played Dark Souls so the partying and dodging is new to me, maybe that’s why some people find it easy, lol. Also, the jank is totally cool but when you accidentally move too far during a fight and the enemy disengages and heals instantly, or attacks aren’t telegraphed (could just be my molasses reaction time), it real discourages me from playing. Advice?
@zombeaver48535 жыл бұрын
I recommend Investing in skills that help to control groups of enemies, like stasis and shadow burst in magic skill tree or traps and grenades in technical tree. They help a lot. Specialising as a pure mage also makes combat much easier. This class is totally op in the game. As for enemies disengaging from a fight, it is indeed a problem sometimes. The only solution is not to move too far from the spot where they are spawned.

I just couldn't do it. Between the copy and paste buildings, areas that all look the same no matter how many hours u put in the game, repetitive quests, facial animations, lack of variance in enemy types (there's literally only 3 excluding bosses), reusing bosses that u beat earlier, boring dialogue, repetitive battle dialogue, forgettable npc's and party members, horrible battle arenas (where enemies health would reset and they would just walk back to their restart positions if u accidentally left the battle area), not even having clearly defined battle areas, parts of the map where u couldn't walk, run, or jump to even tho its touted as an open world rpg (making it a very linear game), quest npc's disappearing from the cut scenes, op stats well before the end of the game, a whole lot of jank, a really small map,.... U get my point. I could go on and on and on and on. Mr Matty wanted so bad for this game to fill the single player Fallout void, but it isn't a good AA game. The fleshed out systems are nice. The ability to finish quests in multiple ways is good. But that's about it. I cannot recommend this title at its current price point. Wait for it to drop to half off or even more before buying. I took my copy back and got Control instead. I'm looking forward to playing it until Outer Worlds comes out.

Digital software - not just games - must have shortcomings built in. Otherwise, customers are satisfied and content. So, it is a business model to make games beta-like with enough promise to create interest for the next version/product. The business model is subscription-like in that you are given enough to want more - it is the side of gaming where you are played as consumers. It sounds, by the jank, like this company is a variation of the business model. But what is in common with big budget disappointments and low budget projects is right from the start, they are lacking. And that's all that matters. So, is the game earnest?

If they did that they could have a game that could really contend with the PS4 titles and say "We have the games." -- I want to see what Spiders is capable of with a bigger budget, but under an umbrella that won't immediately taint their product. Take Two, EA, Activision would all be terrible in that regard. Ubisoft might be tolerable so long as they don't pad the game with Ubisoft collectables that fluff every game.

I love the game so far. I have not purchased any AAA games lately. This one is perfect for me.

I'd play this game before something like Borderlands 3 any day of the week. Old-school Bioware RPG that feels refreshing given the current releases. Its not a loot, grind fest that so many games get lauded for today.

Most people have a backlog of better games that are worth playing before this one.

I’ve been enjoying this game, my really only complaint is that the quest guide system seems like it holds your hand a bit to much. I wish it made you think more but other then that great game

Save $50 then add $10 = The outer worlds 🤣

This is just the type of game that will scratch that RPG itch until 'Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2' and 'Cyberpunk 2077' come out. I love those old Bioware games, yet don't want to play them for the -th time, again. =J

Mass Effect Trilogy, Matty! You mention a number of great BioWare titles, but leave out arguably their crowning achievement! 😬😛

I decided that the movement in greedfall is too jank to get. Its just one of my pet peeves nowadays. I did this with kingdom come but I have it now because of gamepass. I understand that greedfall is a good game but I do not think I am able to invest enough time to get into the world of greedfall compared to other games that I fell in love with almost instantly like assassins creed.

I love AA games. I am still waiting for Elex 2. I wonder if people will be as critical of Outer Worlds since it is also a AA game.

Playing it now and the jank is always there but it never pulls me out more than the good stuff does going in. For me at least.

No microtransactions, no loot boxes & no EGS exclusivity.....that is already 3 ticks in favour of this game.

most core rpg fans are more interested in games with great stories though. The market clearly shows a demand for these type of games, it's not smart to leave money on the table like that.
