After over two thousand years, our modern architecture cannot hold a candle to the beauty of the ancient world.

Yes but you get to live till your 80s instead of dying as an infant or from septicemia from a common infection. Everyone idealises the past but the reality was much more brutal. I prefer ugly modern sky scrappers and the amenities and luxuries of modern life.

What the remark was praising was the breath taking beauty of their architecture , not how great it was to live back then. I would love to go back and VIEW the temples and huge statues of the Greeks and palaces of the emperors of Rome. But I have no wish to actually LIVE back then. I too like the amenities and conveniences of today in spite of problems that sometimes come with them.

Egypt and the rest of the ancient cultures were a 'static' ,never advancing beyond interpreting natural phenomena as supernatural power-plays.The Greek culture was 'dynamic' giving birth to the notion of the objectivity in understanding those phenomena.The modern scientific world was born in Greece-Europe's mother culture.

I just want to enlighten those with STILL Logic and Critical thinking in their head, so that we will be saved from Cultural Annihilation. i have argued for years with Ignorant morons who insisted that Cleopatra was black sub-saharan African, Islam is a religion of peace, that "Great Zimbabwe" was an architectural masterpiece, and Wakanda was ....real !

@@BringBacktheGreeks oh shut the fuck up. No Cleopatra wasn’t sub-Saharan African but Ancient Egyptian culture was definitely sub-Saharan black African in its inception. Washington, they are destroying the old sick world and supposedly are building a better one? Think again my naive child . I am against EVERY racial Supremacy, of whatever color, shape and size, but to claim that BLM , that is by fact black Supremacy, and those who do NOT protest, mainly bec they are studying and/or working to better themselves and their loved ones, THEY ARE SURELY GOING TO VOTE THIS NOVEMBER.

What I wanted to see was close up views of the Caryatids and a more lengthy close up views of the pediments and freizes of the parthenon and the statue of Athena. This presentation should be 30 minutes or more to show the workmanship and art work and statues in all their close up detail. I would pay to have such a detailed presentation on dvd.

Your video is very lovely and informative. Wish it had been available during my college years and classical studies. Don't know if the city size in the background is accurate or not, but it if is, then we see a rade oriented society with significant consumerism able to sustain large populations in confined areas and generate massive public works of great imagination and scope. A very impressive society in any age.

@@JanserMacielMansur Poor choice of words..why would a Greek be jealous of the Nashville Parthenon when they have the original in their Country?...Nashville's Parthenon was made out of plaster and wood and not marble... During the past 2,500 years, the Parthenon-the apotheosis of ancient Greek architecture-has been rocked by earthquakes, set on fire, shattered by exploding gunpowder, looted for its stunning sculptures and defaced by jealous bastards. Amazingly, the Parthenon still stands and it's worth is way more than any replicas of today! Behave with your nonsense and find somebody else to mock....NOT THE GREEKS!

Ryan lex Greece has lots of money but it's mismanaged. It goes to save the European banks, and not the country. They steal the money from the people to starve them, so they can save the bureaucrats of Brussels and Germany which owes more than 8 trillion dollars, plus Germany owes the ww2 war money to pay off the countries that suffered from Nazi regime during the war.

Also restoring ruins is bad, we never know for sure how they were back in the say, also restoring ruins would make it artificial
@TKLevis
@TKLevis 6 жыл бұрын
Better yet it would be to leave them in the ground and not excavate. Excavation destroys the site, and "restoring" it as you call it even more so. Also a large part of the acropolis has already been reconstructed. I am fortunate to have been inside the parthenon and the athena nike temple and i've seen the great people there working round the clock to keep the place in shape. It has to be done right, you need to do extensive research to know where to remains belong, then you need to cut new marble in an exact way to fit it together with the remains and much more..
