Ooh la la!! Love them soo much and it’s popular in some Arab countries plus Turkey. And instead of using sugar bath they use molasses bath for dipping pieces of dough rings. Mmm.. the seeds went down the drain!! Um.. I would let the seeds go off my fingers into the sugar bath then after I’m finished I’ll pour the water onto some ground where birds can eat them!🤗 But what if I had no ground? 🤔 Um.. I could pass it through a seive, wash the seeds then dry them for another time. 🤗 Watch how-to’s, folks to appreciate food better. It’s not an easy process getting sesame seeds.

Thanks so much for the recipe! My husband is from Thessoloniki and loves these. When we lived in NY we were able to get them at the Greek store if you got there early enough before they sold out. Since we moved down south I had to learn to make a lot of Greek and NY specialty items. This was the first recipe for Koulouri I tried and they came out amazing! My husband said they were the best he has tasted. The only thing I did differently was take the suggestion of an earlier commenter and added a Tbsp of tahini and I sprayed the oven walls with water to create steam for a crispier crust

My nephew and I recently had simit in Kusadasi Turkey, and then a Thessolaniki bagel in Greece. We loved them, so I was thrilled to find this channel and recipe. I made these today. While I love to cook, baking is usually not my strong suite, but these were so easy and delicious! I think these are going to become a regular thing in this house. And for anyone like me that thought that seemed like a lot of yeast... Nope, it was perfect.

It reminds me of simit from Turkey. I have not been to Greece yet but I am curious to try that! It is interesting to see how the geographical proximity, the Ottoman ruling, the different religions coming with different food prohibitions, have created modern cuisines which are similar and with a different twist at the same time (Modern Greece / Modern Turkey).

@@user-bn7vn4qu7o simit is originally from Istanbul. 15th century archives show us that it was a already being consumed in Istanbul by the ottomans at that time period. The Eastern European bagels are different to simit. So simit has nothing to do with jews

This looks wonderful. I have never been to Greece, but love Greek food (and art/art history). We always knew in Montréal that Greek restaurants, or any kind of restaurant owned by Greeks would be a superior restaurant. Same holds true in other parts of Canada, they just do food really well. I'd like to try this one, but I've only ever seen cooked lobster used in recipes. Typically in Canada live lobster is put into boiling water, which is cruel; so if it can be done without that process, it's great. I live in western Canada now, so I'm really picky about where I get the seafood, and I only trust one place, so I'll have to ask them about it.

It is the same, it may have different versions in each region, but it's the same. Koulouri or Simit ,was created first time during ottoman empire, in constantinople (instabul) , most bakeries were owned by Greeks, so during the wars, Greeks that came from there as refugees, brought the recipe also in northern Greece and then it spread.

Just cause you experienced something similar in Turkey doesn’t make it basically anything Turkish… Turks assimilated dishes of natives including native Greeks (who lived and cooked foods for thousands of years prior to Turks invading the region). The skilled artisans were the ones who taught crafts to the nomadic Turks since they were forced to do so by Sultans, similarly with cuisine… Just a thought…
