The dance, of all the Arts, is the one that most influences the soul. Dancing is divine in its nature and a gift from the gods! “Plato”

I Love when greek people dance and have seen it for so any years in almost all parts of Greece north to south and east to west. Now I like to learn dancing, before getting too old ;-) So many times friendly people invited me to participate - Where to start? London is far away from Norway. And here are just a very few old and fed guys in a greek Restaurant - not interested to learn their culture to us. Your clip is fantastic and perhaps I can learn dancing on some way. Will be my biggest wish...

Hi and thanks for the comment... unfortunately I don't think I'll be doing the zorba dance it's a bit of a long routine to do in a short video and you need to be able to follow the music whilst learning it as it speeds up and slows down.
@ProfitisElias12 жыл бұрын
Just for you, I updated the title. Actually, you are right, this is a balos but we have always called this a Syrtos here in the UK. If you read some of the other comments you can see others saying, thank god someone knows what a Syrtos is!
@ProfitisElias12 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment Jules. The dance you're looking for is called Kalamadianos. There is a woman who teaches it on youtube the video is called "Greek dance lesson 1 - Syrtos" Don't ask why she calls it Syrtos. but that is a kalamadianos she is teaching. good luck with it (by the way, she is counting to 12)

@elena51ful Hi Elane, thanks for the comment... I've noticed a few people use different names for different dances. This is a syrtos... ballos has the same steps but is danced in a circle.

Thank you for responding to me, I have just looked at the video and cant seem to get the hang of it, I need a step by step demonstration from Jack! I will do some research now you have given me the name,and see if I can find the dance using a step by step method. Thank you doing this, it's really informative and easy to follow.

Nice video! I think this will help many people to learn this dance and enjoy it in panigiria. I just wanted to say that when you dance it your knees should be bended following the steps. This dance is from the islands, it imitates the waves of the sea, the bod shouldn't be rigid.

Thanks Sdrawkab... list of songs at the end of the video in the titles.

i am sorry my friend but this dance isn't syrtos , this is balos (μπαλος) . syrtos (συρτος) is a circle dance with two step forward and one step back.But you do a very good job and you dance very very nice.

does it matter which foot you start on? is it Sirtos or Balos, and one more thing what do Sirtos and Balos mean?
@ProfitisElias3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sky Line, doesn't matter which foot you start with. The dance is actually called Ballos but Cypriot Greeks call it Sirtos. A sirtos is actually any dance where you hold hands and go round in a circle.

@@ProfitisElias thank you so much!! it sounds so cool!! i started listening to random Greek music and most of it is very familiar, so i guess i was supposed to dance to it, right?

+mcvga2006 - I'm also from Crete... This may be difficult for you to believe but they also dance in other parts of Greece as well. This dance has nothing to do with Haniotikos Syrtos from Crete.

You're absolutely right. This dance is sorts siniotikos with is from the aegean islands and from the cyclades.
