I am Greek and live in the USA most of my adult life. I love the music and the dance looks great. I did not have the opportunity to learn how to dance, Viewing your lesson steps, to learn how to dance, Will give me the opportunity to learn. I am going to get started this weekend. Thank you for making this wonderful dance step by step zeimpekiko video available for all of us. God bless you and keep you in good health.

Yeah, got it. From some time now (5 years) I'm never drinking alcoholics, but I had listened to a whole bunch of greek music, which I've found to be one of the very best. Even so, I know that learning zeibekiko is not so easy. Thank you very much for your kind tips, buddy.

Exactly, has to as passion. There is no one true way to dance zeibekiko it has to be random and from your heart! Xaipe

Atypos, let me tell you somthing! I agree with you that zempekiko comes from psuxh. But i think that many people they actually feel it in their soul but they are afraid or shy to perform and dance it, specially because they think they dont know the steps (steps in zempekiko are free). so if Elias gives them some steps he will help them to get rid of the fear they have to begin to dance. And after you will see that they will develope their own steps and dance.

@zvarelas Don't try to make it mangiko. Stay upright, bring your feet up to your hands if you slap them throw in a couple of spins, if your any good at them, and if you do go down keep the knees together and the back straight and sweep the floor with your hand rather than slap it. Best zembekiko I've ever seen was by a young girl... class and style!

For those that asked about the song- it is by Spyros Zagoraios, one of the last genuine rebetika singers still living. You can find it right here on youtube, just type the singer's name.

@Doro7431 You are right Doro7431 Zembekiko is 9 beats. The steps I’m teaching are an Aptaliko zembekiko. But to be honest my 12 year old niece just learnt a 9 step zembekiko at Sunday school. Zembekiko can’t be taught as a routine, it has to be free style and personal. I hope I’ve taught people a basic step they can adapt and personalise and more importantly feel confident to get up and do it in a public venue.

Seriously though man, this is one of the best videos of young people dancing Zeibekiko that I've seen. I really respect your efforts. (oh and women don't dance this dance, but hey, you are in London, it's a feminist world, we gotta put up with bullshit, same thing as female priests lol) Μπραβο αγόρι μου. Seriously, good job.

Thanks, ProfitisElias, for your clarification and the information. It would be great if there can be a little bit more standardisation as totally free improvisation makes this so hard. Your lesson 2 is also helpful and appreciated.

Even though you are not Greek as i can see it is allmost nessesary to know what the song says and go with its rythm.Even if you learn zeibekiko it is a must to feel it,to dance it properly.Be careful cause its easy to fail in this dance even though allmost everyone will be drunk or at his very "high" moments when a zeibekiko song like this is on.Try to listen to as many songs as you can :D

@TheJackRIOT Ohh..! Don’t start me on this 1. Have friends who insist on this. I watch them dance, you can see their lips moving where they are counting. Their zembekiko just looks dead. The Zembeiko does have a 9/8 beat although there are variations. If you check out youtube video “Greek Dance...Zeimpekiko Mathimata...” that’s someone dancing the correct beat. Somehow he even manages to make “tis evdokias” sound camp! Then check out “greek dance zeibekiko” by tasonabila that’s a zembekiko!

Hi Melani and thank you for all your comments on my videos. You can dance the same as men if that's what you want to do. Zembekiko is very personal and you will need to find your own way to express yourself in the dance. I do tend to teach women to do it slightly different from the men in that I teach them to be more upright and have a bit of a catwalk style swagger when dancing.
