Kimi and Buddy make venison meatballs. Welcome to the world of cooking with a toddler! Lots of ingredients, tons of patience and very little attention span are the all part of the recipe!

I grew up hunting and fishing and have raised my kids the same way. We are always so grateful for what we harvest and always thank the animals for all they provide. I think teaching them at a young age shows them how much you respect the animals you harvest and the resource. Buddy’s upbringing is wonderful and he will be so thankful when he is older to have you all as his parents.

@@kimiwerner Sending you hugs Kimi.💙 You are a wonderful mother with lots of patience. Buddy is at that age of thinking he is ready to move out & live life to the fullest LOL. 😂 We all went thru that stage at 3 & tested our parents to the max. LOL I noticed that Buddy was eating the salt (which is a good thing for him to do). here is a informative vid on the importants of salt for our bodies: vid titled:The 1st Symptom of a Salt Deficiency on channel: Dr. Eric Berg DC Kids that run around all day in the sun need water & just a little salt in the water will do him wonders. you too. you are a wonderful mama bear! Keep being you 💙 Keep teaching buddy how to survive without grocery stores. This will come in handy the way the communist corrupt US govt is pushing the US citizens into this direction with all the evil bill gates processed meats/veggies that are coming out of warehouse grown in chemicals (look this up) Aloha 🌊

It's always a delight with, prepping, cooking then consuming venison meatballs; to view. Different techniques. Good on you ❤❤❤😊 Cheers

Thank you Werner Family ! Always a pleasure to watch your videos, the vibe is amazing, the receipts are amazing, the film making is amazing and the message is amazing ! Keep it up ! And regarding your question about exposing Buddy to animals death, maybe just talking about it and figuring out how he perceives this concept will guide you. As an islander too (New Caledonia) and being raised by hunters and fisherman (especially my grand father) I saw pictures and I have some souvenirs of me being exposed to dead animals, such as deers, wild pigs, flying foxes and obviously fishes. I feel like now at 26 I’m more touched by the death of an animal that I was as a kid, but this as not traumatized me in anyways as long as I can remember. Death is part of everything, and should not be hidden, nowadays most of people raised in cities doesn’t see meat as it really is, an animal that has lost its life to feed you, but more like just a piece of meat with no consciousness of what it really is and what getting to the table has really costs.

Kimi, Aloha from New York! As a girl dad to a 2.5 yr old and long time subscriber, it gives me joy seeing you, Justin, and buddy. Buddy getting paint everywhere was so relatable. We are currently being tested by our kid with potty training😂. I also have my kid outside as much as possible snow, rain, or shine and I always show her any yellowtail, rockfish, etc I bring home to gut. You and Justin are great parents. I think you are so vulnerable and brave to show taking care of your sick mom in prev videos. We are going through the same. Thank you for sharing your positivity with the world. sending love from our ohana to yours 🤙🏼💙

I was born in 1968, so it was a different time, but my father was an avid hunter and fisherman. 70-80% of the protein we ate was something we harvested ourselves. It is absolutely not too early to be exposing Buddy to this stuff. He’ll grow up with a great understanding of the circle of life.

And my son is well aware that we are raising them for food/consumption. He has a good understanding of where some of our food come from. I think it is very eye opening for them. G'day buddy I'm Nathan from Australia. Kimmy as a father of a 1 year old and a keen spearo and bowhunter, I personally embrace the opportunity to show reef all I can. If we want to make gathering our food the norm for our children, then we need to treat the harvesting of meat as a normal practice aswell.

I brought my son with me hunting and fishing since he was a baby, he remembers very little of the times when he was little, but always remembers us being together and being outside. I taught him never waste an animal or to kill it without a purpose. Also we live on an acereage and experienced the death of several pets that were killed by predators or died naturally. Even as a little kid he seemed to understand that they were gone and not coming back. Don't overthink the parent thing! This is your lifestyle ,teach it to him! he can choose his own way when he grows up.

Where did buddy get the cool surfer pants? Btw, I use to eat all the olive too. Not only at Buddy's age, I still do at 70. Live with it gurl. _(In fact, he reminded me that I have a can in my pantry. So, I went and got them... all gone. And yes, I cut my thumb on the sharp edge.)_ Ps. I grew up on Wapiti, Pronghorn, deer, trout and salmon. Beef, chicken, pork _(yum bacon)_ were real treats. In fact; at meals, it was _"eat more meat,"_ if we were still hungry. Store-bought costs money. It's a good way to grow up, knowing where your food comes from, and also knowing the real cost of it. It teaches you to respect the animals that give you of them. There's also a lot of good skills to be learned, in cooking, smoking, and preserving of meats. Oh oh...Buddy has a gurl-friend too!

Best Ever, SO cute and funny buddy boy, eating salt and adoring the ladybug. The first time i saw my dad and brothers kill a deer i was 10 and it was hard for me to witness. A bit traumatizing maybe even. I was also a very sensitive girl at that age. Now i see that if there is reverence present in the act of taking an animals life to feed more life, that creates meaning, understanding and respect for the whole cycle. For children to witness firsthand the source of where their food comes from is so empowering and grounding in whats real. Thanks for keeping it real with your inspired local foods!

At least he has good aim with that spoon! My four year old is absolutely feral. I do my best to include him and keep calm and patient but kids are hard! Good job keeping your cool mom! 😂 My little guy and I are hunting buddies camping buddies and everything in between! Man is it hard to take him along, It’s worth it though! I definitely don’t think you are exposing him too soon. My little guy has gone on all our friends and our hunting adventures and we are super honest about it. Like hey we have a tag for the thing, we did it legally we killed it this way, and we are going to cut it all up and cook it and eat it and that’s how we get our food. I used to be a Game Warden by profession and when I was he got to see kind of a lot of the biological background on some stuff and it was super cool to see him understand it even as a little guy. Now he relates to everything that we’ve done like he thinks every mushroom he sees is one someone picked out in the woods like we do. Or every steak is an elk steak😂
