Its a give and take! Thanks for casting! The reason I place meat shield units in square nowadays is to open the flank of the enemy unit when it wraps around, makes them susceptible to precursors and skirmish fire.

Why the mollossian dogs? i love you brought them but they aren't really usefull are they?
@Sol_Invictus-2 жыл бұрын
@@Samsok013 I always bring one if i know ill be out skirmished, in this battles they got 120 kills so it was worth it. Also once you use the dogs you end up having their handlers as a meat shield unit so they serve two purpose.
@Sol_Invictus-2 жыл бұрын
@@Samsok013 For them to be useful thought you got to sync them with army reposition, so once you know the opponent will have to adjust mainline you unleash them. The chances of them catching up to missiles unit goes up when its done in that manner.

Are the dogs useful against skirmish cavalry?
@Sol_Invictus-2 жыл бұрын
@@Laucron yes and no... If the cavalry runs away and get caught the dogs will hurt them and will be useful. If the cavalry turns and run on them repeatedly the dogs won’t do much.

Actually, besides the spartans, you also have the massilian hoplites, who have a pretty decent charge bonus, so, on the charge, they can clear up low level swords, and hold their own against medium swords
@TheBikeOnTheMoon2 жыл бұрын
yes, more please. tbh, hoplite should have had +10 vs infantry when in hoplite wall but lost 10 bonus vs cav, also increase their shield's block chance to 75%

I always liked Epirus because they could bring some really weird armies, not that what Sol Invictus brought was that strange. Also, did CA ever fix war dogs in Rome 2? I want to say back in around patch 16, when I used to mod this game, if you looked in the files there were 3 types of actual dogs (and one unused war pig) in both that animals tables and the entities tables. There were war dogs, Celtic war hounds, and Molosian war hounds. They all had the same or at least very similar stats with the big difference only being that Celtic dogs had better charge speed and Molosians were slower but had more mass and hit points (pretty sure they were all 40/40/40 for melee attack, defense and charge). But even with all that in the files all dog units just used the default roman war dog stats. They would use the different dog models but were all set to the same stats which I always felt was a waste.

As soon as i saw the tarantines i knew who was gonna win. Also what is it about the warscape engine that makes pikes and phalanxes suck so much.
@Laucron2 жыл бұрын
Flanking is the main culprit. If you have a good line of pikes nothing's getting through, the issue is that the game's are limited in the length of the pikewall you can employ, so it's not an issue at all to get to their sides at least slightly. In a vacuum, with their flanks completely secured, pikes and hoplites can be withstand a fuck ton. Had siege battles where a single pike unit took down half the enemy army thanks to cheeky chokes. Otherwise they can just hold it down until you are able to flank. But then again, that's against brainless AI

@@Hopeforstoicism Ancient Athens did not. thats the joke
@Hopeforstoicism2 жыл бұрын
@Wolfgang that's depending on which ancient Athenian you ask. Isocrates called them Greek. Thucidides called them half Greeks. Demosthenes called them barbarians. Then again, ancient Athenians once named Spartans as enemies of Greece. Context is always important. Ancient Romans and Persians called them Greeks, for example. And until today, there are zero archeological findings that the ancient Macedonians spoke anything else than a Greek dialect. See, any questions in regards to the Macedonian origins refer to the time before they became a world power. Macedonia was an obscure kingdom then and their history wasn't well documented. But this changed when they conquered Persia. The effects of said conquest left a massive footprint in the balkans and near east for a millennia and that footprint is undeniably Greek.
