Thank you for covering my replay Apollo :) Well I wouldn't say the campers were noobs. It was much more their response to the previous battle where I had almost the same army and my team defeated them quite decisively. There, my cavalry played a major part in the victory, which is probably why they decided to form this box here. Even though I lost that battle, I found it quite amusing that their whole army was geared towards countering mine and yet I was able to get the most kills. In my opinion the best part is where I used my horse archers, who were out of ammunition, to destroy their wooden stakes. Unfortunately, you can't see that good here, the massacre that followed by my melee cavalry then, because all the archers of the "defenders" who were still alive died there and I was able to charge multiple pike units very clean in the backside.

@ While looking at the kills Rome did pretty poorly but Suebi also did absolutely nothing with the bow women and their cav. The bow women were sent all the way up to the frontline to get charged by both cav and infantry. Waiting a minute or 10 and Trebor would have killed off all of their ranged units and the team on the hill would have needed to take the offense, or catch a load of arrows. Fun replay though, prefer to watch open land battles over sieges mostly.

Trying to hold a defensive position (like a hill) is only valid when you can force your opponent to come to you. If your opponent has no choice but to charge you, you can force him into a position advantageous to you, but if you don't have any means of pressuring him into rushing, then you just give him the initiative.

Don’t know if you are just commenting on the battle or you think this is something the campers didn’t do, because they were able to force the attackers i.e. artillery superiority but they just couldn’t capitalise on that advantage.

The noob box isn't perfect but you do have to admit. Seeing all those troops is awesome. I think i prefer these massive open field no rules battles just for their scale.

I think the main reason why the non-hill players lost is because they didn't bring that many archers which could have been key to destroy the pikes in the last 10 minutes of the battle.

A lot of it was the rome player he could have easily routed 3 units of pikemen but he targeted 1 unit of archers instead which was a huge blunder because rome is probably the strongest faction for countering pikemen with infantry

They mostly needed to watch for the pessky Baktrian Cavalry. As a noobox amateur myself you have to be aware of the cav running around, what were the defenders thinking to let be flanked so many times? Especially at the end

It is true what Apollo says at the end, the main reason for the defeat of the attackers was due to the poor use of the Roman troops. We all know that any player who knows how to use Rome well, could easily beat factions with pikemen. It was useless for the Bactrian player to open gaps and distract the enemy pikemen with his mobility, if the Roman was not able to keep up with him, there were many moments in which he had his troops stopped, doing nothing. =/

Loved seeing this unruly battle of attrition featuring Bactria, my favorite faction considering they can field ele, pikes, hoplites, fast+tanky cav, and even shock infantry especially on DEI.

The seleucids are better in every way, but Bactria is still a good faction but Seleucid is an overall stronger faction and even one of the strongest faction in the game

I'm not a pro, but if your army mainly consists of Archers, because of a slight campaign building mistake, I think it makes sense to be a little more defensively on a hill. Especially if your enemies's army mainly consists of Infantry.

Good battle, very enjoyable. I think it says a lot about the mechanics of Rome 2 more than anything that the hill defenders won despite the active deployment of the Roman allied force. Not to say that the defenders were bad per say, they too had some good responses and actions.

One of those examples where the title of video matches the actual content. I really haven't seen a battle like this before. There were numerous examples where both sides looked like pros, but then didn't. It was strange, but exciting. But honestly, the micro was probably what caused some of the strange plays/lack thereof.

As a Total War player that has poor micro, the hill camp is real. I get to fixated on one point of a battle and the rest crumbles away pretty quickly. I think I've won a total of two multiplayer total war battles. The one through sheer luck and the other because I was teaching a friend a little about the game.

Triarii were the veteran soldiers when the Roman army was an army of peasant conscripts, they're not superior to the professional legions of the later periods which are in this battle, on the contrary.

Hill camping is literally the most logical way to defend because it makes your armour twice as effective if a melee unit is fighting uphill doesn't it? Also that macedon player was obviously new i felt bad for him but then I realized when I saw the rome player using 3 units of heavy melee infantry one of which being elite to attack 1 unit of archers from the same direction when he could have flanked their entire pike line in the rear and realized this guy is also pretty new to this 😂 honestly rome is like perfect for an infantry counter for pikemen macedon would have been way better off using less pikes more peltasts when he saw he was up against a rome and no archers whatsoever because only certain archer units are useful and macedon doesn't have them but they have extremely strong royal peltasts that could have routed their elephants in like 2 volleys its awesome to see people starting to get into rome 2 its such an unappreciated game not the best total war but definitely underrated

What if the camper on a hell top is good not noop? Where the micro is good. What would happen? What if 2 make a camp and 2 fight around. Or 3 camps and one full horse army goes around them with too few horse Arches unite? I think it is a easy way to win. Especially if you have the upper hand interms of army power.

The team who desided to defend are probably beginners ?! or maybe it was a agreement before the game begon 1 team would defend and the otther one attacking. Considderid the build up from the armie's I'm pretty sure they agreed to do this before the game begon... First the attackers wannated to take out as much archers as possible from the def, to youre there own archers shooting dons hilcampers pikes, but the attackers forgot to defend there own archers. So this plan didnd worked....
