Am I the only one to notice we can now watch, through our TVs, computers and phones, what indoor and outdoor security cameras transmit to the aforementioned devices? CCTV was very expensive until fairly recently, in black and white and all too often really crappy video quality. Not common in homes unless they were very high end in exclusive areas. And voice-activation.....think Alexa and the various copycat devices---we now have them 50 years later.

All of the "rural" comedies, including "Green Acres" and "Beverly Hillbillies" were canceled to make room for "socially relevant" shows. Ironically, "socially relevant" shows from 1970 are unwatchable today, while "Green Acres," "F-Troop" and "Beverly Hillbillies" are as funny today as they ever were.

A few years ago over the course of several weeks I binge watched every Green Acres episode in the order they originally aired. It's interesting to see in the early episodes of Green Acres how straight Alvy Moore played the part Hank Kimball. He was all business at first. Lisa acted normal too, and several of the later peripheral characters such as the Ziffels were not yet a part of the show. The show was ok but not nearly as funny as it would later be. The absurdity and surrealism that became the hallmarks of Green Acres didn't start creeping into the show until later in the series. It was fully evolved and at its best in the middle years of the run around the time of this episode in the '67 - '68 season.

The casts of "Green Acres" and "Beverly Hillbillies" were seasoned professional actors who took their parts seriously. As the "straight man" in a bizarre universe, the very talented Eddie Albert played his part perfectly, as did Buddy Ebsen and Irene Ryan, which is what makes the shows so funny.

That's correct - except for the first season, which was fairly average, "Green Acres" was the most surrealist show on American TV before "Twin Peaks." This episode is particularly surreal, as the "tv camera" gag snowballs into absurdism after absurdism....

@@davidsigalow7349 Great show. Eddie said they filmed 3 times a week. I wonder how far out the writers had. Like every show, had they tweaked some of the stupid silly out of it, it would have been a master. Like a lot of what Hank Kimball had to say.
